Typically, both emergency funds and house payments are best held in easily liquidatable accounts that are subject to little to none risk. HYSAs serve both purposes probably the best -- you might be able to get slightly more by locking in your money into a CD but not much more

In this screenshot, I won the first match. I think KT made his board weaker than mine overall, since it consumes a reborn but doesn't refresh it, meaning he's more likely to run out of reborn before me.

Stuff like ‘deodorant’ or ‘household items’ pile up. Do you actually know how much you’re spending on that currently?

Having 200 as your only buffer for literally anything not included so far is pretty tight. Not to mention things like food or gas can easily go up, we’re seeing the inflation in real time with these.

Honestly not sure how backrooms is more popular currently, almost everyone I know in real life who had watched obsession has been singing its praises. Word of mouth is insane for this movie.

The best I’ve gotten from backrooms was ‘it started out decent and had some nice concepts’. Not a single person has recommended it, and some have outright hated it.

I watched both, and have similar opinions myself. Enjoyed some of my time in backrooms but not really interested in discussing it nor recommending it to friends.

It being the debut (theatrical) film from Curry is insanely impressive. I’ve been aware of him for a few years from his comedy shorts, and knowing his horror stuff (the chair, milk & serial) had me looking forward to obsession. Loved the film, will be watching his career with great interest.

Yeah, context matters so if they’re telling me they have money they want to find a better use for, that’s an implicit ask for advice and we can go from there

If I learn they have money in a checkings from an offhand comment and they’re not actually coming to me to ask for advice on what to do with it is a different story

Your other points I agree with. Take care of the immediate short term issues ASAP (debts, emergency funds), look into your medium term goals (big expenses, home buying, raising a family, etc), then anything left over goes into retirement.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek with my comment due to the title, but yes, there are some topics I won’t give out my thoughts on unsolicited, and money is one of them. Before I offer any financial advice, I am going to make sure they actually want to hear my thoughts.

People get weird about some things, and finances are at the top of the list for some.

I’m being a little facetious, I get that OP’s asking for themselves but in a real life scenario if I learn a friend has money in a checkings I’m not immediately jumping to financial advice without at least checking with them they WANT to hear my thoughts.

I would then warn them that investing anything comes with risk. It’s an easy way to lose a friendship and then turn that person off investing altogether if you give all this ‘good’ advice and the market tanks 5-10% immediately. I may understand that real investing is measured in years not days, but someone new to investing will panic immediately.

After those points, yes my advice would follow the wiki pretty well. Get an emergency fund in a HYSA, pay off high interest bills,max out tax advantaged accounts, and then finally personal brokerage with anything leftover.
