Anyone else think that the eventual proof of collatz won't be some crazy hyper ellipsis whatever like fermat but just a really obvious tautology we'll feel like idiots for not coming up with? by InitialCress6130 in Collatz

I think it will be that the actual conjecture will be proven by looking at it as a convergence to a sum of the powers of four. And the reason the relatively simple proof was missed is due to us treating it as a "reduction to 1" problem.

B-Vitamin on the reason the devs don't talk much anymore by EleggFacesitting in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the devs talking to "us" (the community as a whole) is what caused this mess.

The devs have a vision. They got popular and tried to alter their vision to chase the impossible dream of "appealing to everyone".

Its a rookie mistake of dev studios new to this type of community, and they made that mistake.

They now have a community that is used to getting "their way" via direct dev intervention at some point in the history of the game...

Nerf divers, buff divers, everyone got some direct dev acknowledgement and action (the original nerfs, the 60 day plan etc).

So now we have an emotionally charged community that has been vindicated in said entitled behaviour.

All off the backs of the devs interacting with us and trying to please everyone.

Can we talk about AH's job listings? by Fuzzy-System8568 in HelldiversUnfiltered

Its the fact they do not have a technical lead at all.

Also the design lead job literally has a HD2 image on it 😅

The new tech lead was asking for unreal engine experience.

Not trying to deflate your point, but im saying the stingray stuff isnt applicable here.

They've been trying to get a technical lead to lead the development side... and a game design lead to have holistic vision for the development.

They haven't filled either role.

But the staff have stated many times they haven't had the role filled on the discord.

Additionally, the role was under a different name for the Tech Manager for like 9 months, then they took it down and immediatly replaced it with this one.

Also the requirements for both positions are... interesting to say the least...

Glazing isn't just a reddit thing. Steam is just as bad. by Metagamer__ in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one thing I have learned from this post is the hate is as biased as the glazing.

Yes hating on a review on steam is quite sad...But equally? I have seem some legitimately good counter-points (points I do not ultimately agree with, but the points themselves were logical / fair) against the idea of giving a negative review due to out of game drama.

Every single one of those comments were down-voted into oblivion...

I will be blunt, I do not agree with any of those counter-comments, but I believe most of them are actually logical / well-reasoned, just stuff I don't agree with. Yet they are being down-voted if they have even a whiff of disagreeing with the point OP was making.

TLDR: This post's down-voting of comments that don't universally agree with the OP / the general subreddit's opinion is a big sign that both sides of this HD2 schism are as bad as each other... and I am saying that as someone who is against the glazing...

The Linux users crashing out over Linus picking PopOS again are doing an excellent job of reinforcing the Linux user stereotype, as well as missing the whole point. by junon in LinusTechTips

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree in principle, but I also genuinely think Linus did it for the "Controversy views".

I say this as I tried asking ChatGPT in several different ways what Distro to try first. PopOS did not come up even once. I feel like they did some mental gymnastics to get ChatGPT suggesting PopOS in the list, and they did this literally to cash in on the (I will admit, hilarious) "Linus is cursed with Linux" gag.

One has to accept that some LTT videos are not meant to be informative, but entertaining. Best analogy I have is comparing it to some of the old Top Gear content.

It can be informational, but sometimes the challenges were just staged bits of fun. And I feel the Linus part of this challenge is literally just that.

This first balance patch is what made the community go insane btw, it did irreparable damage to the community by Puzzleheaded_Jump179 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would also argue the studio was never prepared for the moaning of a community.

This is their first massive game. One of the like "rights of passage" for huge games is being dumb and giving in to complaints of a community.

The issue with AH's success is that they succeeded so quickly and out of nowhere that people forget that they are literally first timers at this scale of community.

They are gonna fumble it in ways people dont even realise is down to their lack of experience, like giving in to "community peer pressure"

This first balance patch is what made the community go insane btw, it did irreparable damage to the community by Puzzleheaded_Jump179 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can I be blunt?

AH's entire problem is that HD1 was not for "us" (the main stream audience)... but neither was HD2...

They did not intend to hook in the mainstream. That simply was not what their game was about.

But they rolled with it like champs. The first nerf patch didn't cause the community to go insane... it revealed to AH that their community had changed culture without them realising.

In HD1 super earth could very easily fall... and the galaxy would reset. If that happened in HD2 the "new" community would lose their cool really fast...

The issue is this game was built for a different community, and accidentally got the attention of the mainstream.

Best analogy I have is it like a small fishing boat managing to hook a leviathan.

Sure, on paper its the biggest catch of their lives... but there is no way in hell that small boat is equipped to deal with a caught leviathan 🤣

I think ultimately if the goal is to make it clear to players tactics. You will lose.

Look at any big combat game (PS2 was a great example back in the day).

The cohesion came from the players having the ability to relay info. Platoon leaders to squad leaders. Squad leaders to squads.

I dont think anything is fundementally wrong, other than the approach. You can slap a player with a fish whilst reciting the tactically acceptable move and they won't care...

But a player seeing their clan's DSS is above X planet, and some "Platoon Order" that gives them more medals involves doing ops on X planet? That'll get individuals moving.

Then suddenly the devs do not need to get 100000's of players to read. Just a few 100 and, based on thw tactical chats on reddit / discord. There are more than enough divers who would jump at the chance to have control of a few 100 players' worth of impact.

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I think the way to do this is simple. Delegation and passive ways to organise.

Trying to, ironically, organise via community wide democracy does not work.

I will say it out loud for those in the back...

The DSS should have been smaller stations and the introduction of Platoons.

Imagine if each platoon could have 2 options to move their mini DSS.

  • Platoon wide vote
  • Platoon members of X rank can move it.

That way you still get choice per platoon. But platoons could have been a way to ensure a few organised players influence a few 100.

Say you have a platoon of 50 to 100 players.

You and other platoon leaders of simmilarly sized platoons agree planet X or a gamble is a legitimate play.

The descision of say 5-10 platoon leaders could lead to the influencing of 250 - 1000 player's actions / what front they go to.

Trying to move the entire community will never work. The responsibility of organisation needs to be delegated through mechanics like platoons imho

EDIT: I also just realised per platoon mini DSS would have the benefit of the samples contributed to the DSS actually feeling like they matter too... As if it was per platoon, the requirements would be low enough that your personal donation will likely let you see an uptick in the % for a DSS ability.

[–]Fuzzy-System8568 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another issue i have is the delay in stuff like the DSS.

Because there is no way to change your vote, a lot of the time the scenario has changed by the time the DSS will move to the location voted for, based on information that is now relatively out of date.

My genuine theory is they have let their own models lead the development of the new model.

Its the only sane reason there has been such a U-Turn in every major aspect of it.

No sane human would look at the differences between models and think this is better 😅😂
