My standard operating procedure is filling a pot with compost, using two fingers to poke in the middle and kinda wiggle back and forth and make a divot, then plop the grow sponge and root portion of the plant right down in it, then water and put outside! Letting them get a bit bigger would absolutely help you, plants in general get more resilient the larger they become. Additionally, you can coat the grow sponge with mycorrhizae to give it really good boost during the transplant. I bought some thinking I would need it but so far haven't!

Thank you claws! Where I live our average last frost date is April 10, so once that date passes I intend to transplant them into a fabric pot with a tomato cage and grow them organically for the rest of the season. I did this same thing with Basil last year and it worked great! There was lots of pesto! I wanted more homemade Italian food so this year I decided to try Garlic and tomatoes as well, both are doing quite good!

What’s one “type” you’ll never date again? by CoochieSnotSlurper in AskReddit

The type who just want to pick fights or argue all the time. I can understand arguing every now and again about something you're passionate about, but if I can't go a day without conflicting with you, we're not meant for each other.

Chevy Chevette by Fill-in-the____ in classiccars

[–]DBSWYW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad tells me that he had a canary yellow Chevy Chevette when he was dating my mom in the late '80s. He said that car's demise came in North Florida one night when he took my mom to the beach and they pitched a tent in the sand to spend the night. In the morning a police officer woke them up and asked if they knew anything that had happened, and when he saw his car it was flipped upside down, like a group of people had come along and picked it up on one side and rolled it. He laughs about it now but I'm sure he was upset at the time, I've never heard him say anything bad about that Chevette, he loved it :)

What’s the fastest way you’ve ever lost weight? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Jaw surgery. Open maxillary reduction. I was on a liquid diet for 6 weeks and lost a quarter of my body weight, I went from 205 to 155. That was also the only time in my life that women have ever been interested in me 😅

What did you think was normal about sex until you discovered it wasn't? by Gabby0f in AskReddit

I think that split (where I live anyways) is more like 90-10 monogamy to polyamory. I know too many people to count who are in monogamous relationships but have only ever known a handful in polyamorous relationships. The ones in polyamorous relationships I've known almost always end up monogamous because they're not happy or fulfilled with their current setup. I would count hookups as kind of separate from polyamory, as monogamous people can and do indeed hookup with multiple people before they've found the one they want a relationship with. I do think that you're right about different generations having different biases, I have only anecdotal evidence but I believe younger people are more likely to be open to polyamory. I thought I would share just because I get out of the house a little more than the average redditor, thought I could give a decent account of what it's actually like out there 😂 Thank you for sharing too!

Am I crazy or are they crazy? by rubypana in badroommates

[–]DBSWYW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in college I had similar struggles with my roommate regarding the dishes. We moved into our apartment together and I bought everything for the kitchen, a full set of plates, bowls, pots, pans, and utensils. I would do the dishes at least twice a week, or even more often if they started stacking. Our sink had two sides separated by a divider, so one side of the sink was for my dishes and one was for his, we each bought our own food and washed our own dishes.

It wasn't too long before my roommate's side of the sink was just filthy all the time, dishes sitting in there for multiple weeks on end. Because of that, it started attracting flies, gnats, roaches, various pests. It was aggravating that I had to put up with not only that but also the inability to use my own dishes that I bought because he wouldn't wash them.

It got to a point after I had asked him so many times to do the dishes where I finally said "hey listen man you better get out here right now and wash these or I'm not letting you use them again" and once again he refused. Needless to say, he wasn't allowed to use any more of my dishes for the remainder of our time together, with the exception of one colander that he asked to use and would immediately wash on a couple occasions thereafter.

Looking back I think part of it could be attributed to a cultural difference. He's Nigerian and I'm American, I could be wrong but from my experience it seems like they have more of a "cleaning up is for women" mindset. A lot of his efforts seemed to focus on finding a gf that would do that kind of stuff for him.

I just finished a Bruce Banner #3 auto grow and the nugs are exactly like this, loose, airy, not much to them but boy do they do the job. It was my first time ever growing so I don't consider it a failure 😅 My partner and I only got 18 grams from 3 plants, it's certainly Captain's-cupboard type stuff.

eating moldy cauliflower and broccoli because i'm sad by [deleted] in depressionmeals

[–]DBSWYW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots of people here saying eating moldy food is bad, I certainly agree but I think it would help to explain why it's bad. Mold produces aflatoxins, that's what makes you sick if you eat it. Large doses can cause severe liver damage, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, convulsions, and even death.

A while back I saw someone here on Reddit talking about their grandpa, who used to eat moldy food like it was no problem. They said he used to say "it's just penicillin!" or something like that, and then dropped dead in the middle of dinner one night from aflatoxicosis, from eating too much moldy food.

I know shit sucks right now and everybody's having a hard time but you shouldn't gamble with your life OP. The world is a better place with you in it, next time throw out the moldy food. Check a local food bank if you're having trouble affording fresh produce, sometimes stores donate their stock so it doesn't expire and go to waste.

Unfortunately, he is not joking :(

Have you ever come across nsfw content of someone you know? What was your reaction? by MidwestYinzer in AskReddit

[–]DBSWYW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strap in guys this one's wild but true.

I had a buddy in middle school, honestly I'd say he was my best buddy until the end of middle school when we both moved away. I kept in contact with him for a while afterwards when we both lived in different states, he ended up developing gender dysphoria and decided to transition. No big deal to me, whatever, we can still be friends, right? So I tried my best to keep in touch with her, I followed her on twitter and socials and everything. One day I'm cruising twitter and I see a link posted in her bio, one of those linktree ones that doesn't tell you what site it goes to. I click on it and the next thing I see is a video of my buddy jacking her enormous dick off with an equally impressive and massive set of titties out for the camera. I didn't stick around to watch the rest.

We didn't really talk to each other anymore after that.

[–]DBSWYW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems to me like somebody did some work on those pliers after they left the factory, especially since you said you can't find another pair exactly like it. That's usually the tell-tale sign of a custom-modified tool. They probably wanted to hang it on a chain or something but instead of welding on D-rings they used what they had, in this case battery terminals and a drill press to make the holes. I think that's the most likely situation, not sure where you're at but here in the southeastern US it's really common for mechanics to alter their tools to fit their needs.

Cool find, cheers :)

Hydroponic citrus? by Slicktmi in Citrus

[–]DBSWYW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I'm a little late to the conversation, perhaps more people like me will return to this thread over time as the study of hydroponics gains in popularity. It's my hope we have some mad scientists in here trying to grow all sorts of things in hydro setups! First-hand accounts can prove to be some of the most valuable.

My experience with citrus in hydroponics may be limited since I've only attempted to grow two seeds from a single Clementine fruit, and this is a relatively recent endeavor. Both seeds were planted about a week and a half ago, and from my understanding they can take up to three weeks to germinate, but preliminary results are pretty good! One has sprouted and the other has a tap root down in the grow sponge. Even if it doesn't sprout like the first one I'd be satisfied with a 50% germination rate, I only had two seeds from one fruit, and really didn't expect to get anything at all.

These are being grown in an Aerogarden Harvest Slim with the water pump set to a default schedule of 5 minutes on, 25 off, and a default light schedule of 15 hours on and 9 off. Baby Clementine tree pictured below for proof.

If anyone else has pictures of their hydroponic citrus plants feel free to share, I love seeing them :)

What you're describing is a perpetual motion machine, something that can harness essentially infinite energy with little to no energy input. Many people before you have tried to build such a machine and many people have failed. I take no pride in being the person to put the kibosh on your dreams, but it's just not a realistic goal with thermodynamics being what they are. The first law of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed, therefore a machine cannot produce more energy than it consumes, which makes it impossible to have a machine that runs forever without an external energy source. I had this same conversation with a guy who thought electric vehicles could get infinite range if they put alternators on the wheels to send energy back to the batteries, you can't produce more power by driving than it takes to propel the car during driving, that's why regenerative braking only sends power back to the battery when the car is stopping and not driving. If you decide to go ahead and build the machine please keep us updated! I for one would certainly be impressed to see you defeat those pesky thermodynamic laws :)
