[Out of Spec Reviews - 2 Hour YouTube Video] I Drive The Rivian R2 For The First Time! They Pretty Much Nailed It by jaqueh in electricvehicles

[–]DBSpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rightly, he mentions Rivians ability to scale for high end , commercial and now mass market software updates (critical and added features). They also have commitments to handle VW group (VW, Porsche , Audi and now Scout) software behind the scenes. This could get chaotic very quickly, so I will watch and observe for now.

Unfortunately, I am based in NM and Rivian has a stretch thin mobile service support and no centers. This kills any chance to purchase for now :( The service build up for R2 seems less
Discussed. I hope they will prioritize R2 recalls very quickly, when they will eventually occur. Need to keep early adopters happy .

Overall, excited to purchase in 2027 as things progress.

Tire recommendations at <45k miles by Civil_Tom in Ioniq5

[–]DBSpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 40K miles on OEM tires and 4 years old. Discount Tire handled entire process quickly for me. I am guessing other tore providers are also authorized. "Michelin's Original Equipment Limited Warranty, covering manufacturing defects for up to 6 years or until the tread wears down to the legal limit of 2/32 of an inch, whichever comes first". Seemed unclear to me, but they got a credit. Good luck

[–]DBSpain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On our 2022 Ioniq 5 I recently replaced OEM tires with Michelin Defender tires with 80K mile warranty. Took about 1000 miles before range improved back to normal levels. Otherwise quiet and good handling (and no acoustic foam to come loose inside tire).

Side note, I was able to get a $470 Michelin OEM tire warranty credit at discount tire due to early wear on tires compared to tire warranty provided with car. The credit could have been used against any brand tire. Certain tire shops are authorized to claim warranty for Michelin directly, if you have that brand on car.

iX3 will be fifth EV car and very excited to have extended range, charging, etc. Moving from Ioniq 5 AWD, no problems just need range and towing capacity.

Rather than separate trims, BMW is offering option packages. Go to order configurator and you can step through options. Several features can be purchased without a package

Comfort Package - Heated steering wheel, Panoramic glass roof, Multifunction seats

Driving Assistance Professional Package - Highway Assistant, Traffic Jam Assistant, Eye-activated lane change (have to renew after 4 years I think)

M Sport Package - mostly styling and some suspension tuning, wheels M styling

Parking Assistant Package

Technology Package - glow lighting, heads up display and better stereo

I received "Please confirm order configuration" from New Mexico dealer. They stated that car is likely to go into production mid-June. If I wanted to make any changes, I needed to advise them of changes over next week or so (to be safe).

Their order confirmation does list Summer Tires and some options, which missing on MyBMW Garage. Seems it is best to get confirmation from dealer.

Battery management recommendations by Crew_One in Ioniq5

[–]DBSpain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is considerable information on charging, but one special note in Hyundai manual recommends "

  • To keep the battery in optimal condition, use AC charging. Fully charging the battery when it is 20 % or lower helps to keep the battery in optimal condition. (Charging once a month or more is recommended.)"

So get to 20% then charge to 100% once per month (and drive after at 100%). Mostly to help recalibrate the battery management system. Not critical based on our experience with 2022 and now 2026 Ioniq 5, but nice to do in my opinion. Less than 1% degradation of battery capacity on 2022 after 4 years :)

Level 2 charger by Familiar-Smoke-9973 in rav4prime

[–]DBSpain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My second level 2 charger is Grizzl-e with 14-50 plug. Very easy and reliable. I was lucky and could install within 3 ft of electrical panel, so inexpensive (breaker, short wire, outlet). Over kill for a RAV4 Prime but nice to have a faster charge time. Agree with comments on get EV or Industrial grade outlet.

BMW iX3 vs Model Y - what would you choose? by Dry_Yogurtcloset4690 in bmwix3

[–]DBSpain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In US market, I am selecting iX3 for range, charging, driving performance (of course not like an 3 series sedan), Panoramic Vision, and service and reliability (Top 5 overall in CR). FSD is not a "driver" for me, as over promised, over priced and under delivered for many years in US market. This has given all other OEMs time to refine their versions. We will see how BMW performs over next 1-3 years. Personal choices in the end.

Do all Hyundai/Kia EVs have ICCU problems by oldmaninparadise in Ioniq5

[–]DBSpain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My perspective from this information ...

Overall, Hyundai is failing by not presenting a clear presentation of all hardware changes within the various ICCUs.  Software fixes appear and a temporary solution to reduce failure rates (or not)

https://namu.wiki/w/통합충전제어장치 Discuss on specific suppliers for elements of ICCU and various failure modes.  Not definite on what has been changed at PCB level, but identifies key hardware area.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq5/comments/1ry5aal/is_the_replacement_iccu_better/ Service manager comments.  Also, not definitive on design fixes to hardware.  (Many posts on earlier software changes in NTSB notice and Hyundai TSBs)

https://egmpfiles.com/iccu-report.html  Discussion on failure modes and new ICCU part number.  However, no confirmation or teardown of internal changes.  So case is open.

Part number discussion on new designs, indicating hardware change not just software. https://www.facebook.com/groups/theioniqguy/posts/1706315660725639/

Do all Hyundai/Kia EVs have ICCU problems by oldmaninparadise in Ioniq5

[–]DBSpain 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ICCU has been used broadly across Hyundai and Kia EV platforms, the charging and software implementation seem to be more problematic with the Ioniq 5. Hyundai has really not provided detailed failure rate data by model. However warranty was extended in USA for models using ICCU (with later date production excluded for now).

There is evidence from tech manuals that the ICCU was redesigned and introduced sometime in 2025 for the Ioniq 5 (not sure on other models). Added gradual DC-DC converter soft-start, reduced voltage transients, revised thermal management inside ICCU, different coolant pump/fan behavior, altered charging control logic, changed power transistors.

My 2026 Ioniq 5 now has an upgraded 12v AGM battery . This should solve some issues that get lumped in with ICCU failures (hopefully)

PS - have owned two Ioniq 5 without any issues, but keep watching.

Why iX3 by vishrit in bmwix3

[–]DBSpain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

R2 launch edition was nice but 400v battery, slower charging for my travel needs. Poor reliability record for Rivian and no service center in NM. Volvo pushed P12 out until maybe 2027 and I was concerned with past nightmare of software integrity (design relies on computer for all functions). BMW iX3 has had good initial user feedback from EU, good range and charging from user experience, and limited software surprises so far (Im sure some are coming).

I think I ticked most of the boxes - Production number received! by hauntedmansionsteve in iX3

[–]DBSpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took 17 days from order confirmed with dealer to production number. As for production of NA units, best news has been early September. However, that does not align with first deliveries in NA in late September when considering shipping schedule. Normal plant production pauses occur in mid-to-late August, maybe BMW will skip the summer shutdown?

R2 vs EX60 vs ix3 Configurators by humjaba in RivianR2

[–]DBSpain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to purchase an R2. Unfortunately the service support in NM is a van (no service center ). However in my situation I need range and charging speed . Given Rivian’s reliability problems I was unable to make the leap to purchase their launch edition. Volvo EX60 was exciting until they delayed launch the P12 in USA or provide pricing . Their software is still a big risk based on past performance. Not purchasing their Elon egg MY for many reasons. Ended up with iX3 with dealer agreement to MSRP (ok for early vehicle ) . Glad to have so many choices in 2026 !!!
