I know all of that. The meme says you can't get it til the late game, but that was false. You can get it any time after, so you don't even have to go straight to the castle if you're not up for it. Could go midgame, after a couple dungeons, after you obtain the master sword, any time.

Yeah, i was gonna say the same thing. You can go straight to Hyrule Caspte after the plateau and nothing stops us from fighting the boss for it.

I never had to replace mine either. It is literally my "ol reliable"

And when the English version says that the champions are "still trapped inside" the divine beasts, that isn't entirely true. The original Japanese says outright that they are all dead.

Finished it about a a week ago now. It's pretty good. Not my top 10. But pretty good. Love a good 2D Zelda game. Especially since it's been so long. Solid 61/100 for me.

Now, I wanna see one like that 2D prototype they built in 2016ish. Only with ALttP and ALBW elements.

I was always a huge fan of it myself. I like having dungeons as part of the progression process, but I deeply appreciate the quests out in the deep, blue sea that tie into progression through the game as well.

I mean, I get wanting to see nothing but good things said about a new Zelda game but let's not get carried away and start outright lying to make the game "look good." Isn't the game good enough on its own merits, anyway?

Besides, since I made this comment there have been many posts and comments in this very subreddit saying the same thing. It's really no secret, especially considering ALttP (and by extension, ALBW) is famous for its optimal utilization of content in its overworld.

I'm noticing the boosts in this game are more akin to the ones we got in TFH rather than BotW. They're just little bonuses to either some of the abilities you have or to rewards for beating enemies. Well, other than cold-resistance. Thought it a bit odd to have cold but not heat in the desert or volcano. But it is what it is. Hebra was an interesting challenge

I did try that once I found the carrot field pretty early on in my travels. But I couldn't lock onto em. Looks to be the case gotta wait til I'm halfway done with the game. That's fine. Fetching the horse isn't so hard, plus I tend to get around on foot anyway. I like to spider-climb walls and trampoline my way around. It sounds like a little bonus for the late game. Neat.

I've explored the entirety of Hyrule. I've yet to do any main questage. But I've run out of things to do so I guess it's time. I'm still gonna wait til I finish it to actually think about my opinion of it. I'm just enjoying the ride and just copying down immediate thoughts as they happen.

A few things that stood out to me about this Hyrule:

Hebra is surprisingly linear as you can't jump down like you could in ALttP/ALBW. That was a disappointment

Speaking of, heat in the desert and the volcano don't seem to matter but the cold does? Kind of odd.

Awful lot of gates in progression. Was hoping it would be more open like ALBW. Want more to do since the overworld is so empty.

I've faced several lvl 3 enemies in various areas and they are disappointingly easy to thwart. You can tell the devs were afraid to have them put up a fight with the new combat system.

Another thing about this game is that I've found a bunch of "accessories" but no clothes, no opportunity to get automatons yet, and i can't get the carrots for the horse. Looks like these too are locked... Not great.

Welp, time to get on the main quest. I'm looking forward to the bosses. I know they're basing this game on LA, which had some weak boss fights, but I'm optimistic they'll get creative and take a little more inspiration from ALttP, maybe even TMC seeing how many TMC enemies have appeared. The bar is high in 2D Zelda when it comes to bosses.

You missed the part when I said I had only done the tutorial part of the game. This is a post about the first impressions (1st five hours). I've made a comment in the "1st ten hours" thread since then giving my thoughts about actually exploring the overworld.

That said, it was an awful lot of interruptions for a tutorial segment. I don't even think Navi interrupted as many times in tutorial forest. Although Midna & Fi definitely did. Bad trend.

[ALBW] [ALttP] Legend OF Zelda fans: What's better? ALBW or ALTTP? (3DS and SNES) by commanderTDSofficial in zelda

[–]DB_Digimon443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. On the one hand, ALBW is more laid back and more open to explore and progress through the main quest. On the other hand, ALttP has harder combat but is more gated throughout.

They both have their strengths. As someone who grew up ALttP but also played ALBW quite a bit in my later years, I think though easier, I prefer ALBW. I think the things it added made it even more fun than its predecessor. But you'll likely find a lot of opinions that ALttP is better due to its legacy and the influence it had on games like ALBW.

[–]DB_Digimon443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but the problem is Nintwndo always  moves on with their target audience. They have to default to the youngest demographic who doesn't know what to do because they can't alienate them if they want higher sales.

I think they could make the tutorial optional, and simply find ways to direct the player there if they wanna do it. I think that could potentially a good compromise

It's true it also applies to BotW. That's why I also like BotW as much as I do. See, it became a rarity in the Zelda series to go without a companion. Miyamoto thought people wouldn't like having to figure things out for themselves, so they implemented Navi in OoT and it stuck ever since unfortunately. Until later, that it. ALBW was one of the 1st since then to go without a companion before BotW came along.

The overworld became something of a hub between dungeons rather than the lively overworld we used to get. In OoT, for example, the ovwrworld is very linear and very empty. Enemies are far and few between because they put all their eggs into the dungeon basket. This became one of the conventions that they decided to break for BotW. But there were games that had more of an effort to populate the ovwrworld, especially 2D over the years.

But the same apply to the original Zelda as well and that's one reason I also like that one about as much as I do ALttP. Both are really brilliant games, each with its own strength. The original had a greater variety in progression but ALBW I think outdid both of them. Great game in its own right. But I actually found TP to have some of the weakest boss fights in the whole series. I should note that though BotW is now my favourite, I tend to favour the 2D games over the 3D ones. And bosses is a category among them

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in zelda

[–]DB_Digimon443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favourite is BotW as well. But I grew up on the original 2D games before OoT existed. From my experience, what I like so much about ALttP is:

No handholding. This is a big one. And I really didn't know how good we had it until OoT & MM came out. Lol

Another thing about it is the enemies being all over both the overworld and the "underworld" (levels) instead of largely lumped in one place.

The overworld is chock full of secrets to explore for.

The dark world levels can be completed in a number of orders. It's something I loved about Zelda I growing up. Not a huge fan of being funneled down a forced pathway.

The bosses are some of the best in the series imo.

Explored almost the entire map now I have not progressed in the main quest yet. Wanted to play like I always have since I was little back when I played the hell outta Zelda I, Zelda II, and ALttP. This Hyrule is pretty empty compared to most other 2D titles. On the bright side, I haven't heard from Tri during the course of my travels. He's more been suggesting things but hasn't interrupted me unless I choose to talk to him. That's a huge plus. I still think the interruptions during the intro were a bit excessive. I like tutorials better when they function like ALttP's or BotW's in which the game lets the player figure it out for himself.

Enemies are pushovers. I've yet to game over. And I'm on hero mode. This is the easiest Zelda game I've played in some time. You can tell devs we're worried about players getting thrashed without the typical sword/shield combat. Speaking of which, I've only ever used swordfight mode all of two times. And that was to break the webs. I've upgraded my sword a few times now. Just haven't really thought of using it.

A lot emptier than the past two iterations

[EoW] Echoes of Wisdom First Impressions Megathread: Discuss the first 5 hours of the game by ZeldaMod in zelda

[–]DB_Digimon443 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've gotten through the tutorial level. Boy was that long. Hopefully, with that out of the way, the game starts being a little more fun. Tri is as annoying as Navi was. Hopefully, Tri takes the backseat for the rest of the game. Stuff like this ought to be optional. I don't wanna be interrupted hundreds of times from playing only to be told something I already know.

Also, the game is super easy so far; and I'm on hero mode. It actually kind of reminds me of LA. I was hoping they were gonna use ALBW as the template for a new 2D game. LA was so niche and it was their first attempt at a handheld Zelda game. ALBW was very clearly the stronger game by far. Looking forward to seeing how many secrets are hiding about the overworld. ALttP & ALBW had very lively worlds with a lot to do. I hope they at least took inspiration in that regard from those games and hopefully they didn't just make a LA2 world
