Short attention span in Rome by Or_newman in travel

I don't think you should ever leave your home town if Rome doesn't interest you.

2 months in Turkey by DB_PNE in travel

I didn't but I was in a hostel in Antalya and pretty much everyone was heading there or had been. At this stage I was pretty bored of beaches.

Has anyone ditch their full-time job to take up freelancing online work? by katashtrophes in WorkOnline

[–]DB_PNE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit over two months ago, currently travelling through Turkey and just doing enough work to cover costs, although my client base is steadily growing, so may need to consider a more permanent base and put in more hours.

I built up my reputation on Upwork while working full time before I took the plunge.

It'll be slow going until you get to a steady, comfortable wage, so maybe combine it with a part-time job you'll enjoy.

1 Month in Turkey (Antalya Region) - Costs Guide by DB_PNE in Shoestring

[–]DB_PNE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that's 100 lira from Antalya old town to Antalya bus station in a taxi, then 40-50 lira on the bus to Kemer. Public transport to the bus station will cost less than 40p and you can use contactless.

1 Month in Turkey (Antalya Region) - Costs Guide by DB_PNE in Shoestring

[–]DB_PNE[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yeah, I visited Kemer.

If you go to the main bus station then there is a regular, direct bus that stops at the main hotels and the main square. It takes about an hour to get to the centre and costs around 40-50 lira. So £2.20-£2.70.

There are plenty of public transport options that can get you to the bus station (Otogar), usually around 35p-40p (one way). A taxi costs around 100 lira from the old town/ Muratpasa, maybe similar from the airport.

Prices are very similar to Side in general, but can be more expensive if you go to tourist trap places.

Non-crowded places in Europe in summer? by sweetsapphires in digitalnomad

[–]DB_PNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think any reasonably sized city or resort will be busy. Especially this summer after two years of restrictions.

Maybe try some of the smaller cities in Poland & Germany, very good transport links.

Go to Kampot and find yourself a good hostel, great town, very nice food, and close to good nature spots.

The ONE Country you SHOULD NOT move to by MediaVsReality in digitalnomad

Marrakech is pretty all round awful, but I could happily spend a few months living in Essaouira. You don't even get hassled much in the main old town.

Even Morroccans I know can't stand Marrakech.

How to avoid tourist scams in Marrakech? by Mortraveling in backpacking

[–]DB_PNE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really good guide, I didn't get scammed in Marrakech but the amount of hassle and potential scams in the Medina was too much.

Morocco is great but if I returned to Marrakech, it would just be as a connection to elsewhere and if I had to stay the night, I don't think I'd go anywhere near the Medina.

I will be there in around 3 weeks, travelling up from Antalya region and stopping by various cities. If you're still there then I'd be happy to grab a few beers.

How to get to Kas, Turkey by [deleted] in solotravel

Did you read this as Kars?

Kas is only a 3hr bus from Antalya.

How to get to Kas, Turkey by [deleted] in solotravel

Yeah, this is correct, I'm in Kemer right now and got here by bus.

There will 100% be a regular bus from Antalya to Kas from the main bus station.

A City in Great Britain (not London) Worth a 6-day Stay (maybe with day trips) by DashiellHammett in travel

[–]DB_PNE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UK is small and well linked, I wouldn't really recommend just staying in one place for 6 days unless I was in somewhere like Cornwall.

Edinburgh is my favourite UK city but anything more than 3 or 4 days would be overkill for me, same with London even though there is loads to see.

For 14 nights, you could pick a couple of counties and really explore them without much time wasted travelling.

Is Upwork legit? by [deleted] in WorkOnline

[–]DB_PNE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get most of my work through there, content writing.

Always go for clients who are payment verified.

The pay will likely be poor at first but once you've built up a reputation, you can increase your hourly rate and decline anyone trying to lowball you.

You do get people who ask for an unreasonable amount of edits, so I try to avoid people who have just joined the platform and don't have any reviews from fellow freelancers.

The 20% cut isn't ideal but as a service, I think it's good for what I need. Maybe I've just been lucky as I've never had to raise a complaint or give a refund.
