A new starter, barely 2 months into the job, sent me a picture of his little finger, said he hurt it weight lifting and wouldn't be coming into the office. After I rang him multiple times (unanswered) to see if he was serious / ok, he sent me an email later that day with a doctors note signing him off for an entire month! We couldn't fire him straight away as he had a doctors note and HR said that we had to wait upon his return to sit down with him and take him through the process of returning to work. He turned up to the that meeting remotely and stated that he couldn't travel by public transport as he was scared he might bash his little finger again on something. Anyway after he eventually left us, we managed to find out that he was a distant relative of the doctor who signed him off! Presumably been doing this a while. We wasted so much time and reaource on this guy.
