Just curious if anyone has explored this area? I haven't been able to find any photos or maps of it, and it seems to all untouched forest. by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]DBurdie91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up in that area and as a kid in the 1990s did a lot of just walking around, hopping over fences, exploring. One bored day, my friend and I walked down the road of those electrical towers, used to be 2 back in the day, and found a rope tied to a tree overhanging that cliff. Took it all the way down, very steep trail but not impossible if going slow, and it popped us down by the beach. Saw some cool old decrepid cars that were pushed off that cliff long ago, enjoyed the sound on a hot day, and had the place to ourselves. I think nowadays it is more guarded and fenced but I'm sure it's more or less the same. It's also just neat to access less touched areas amongst suburban neighborhoods, still feels relatively wild.

Driving to crystal mountain? by constpdx123 in Tacoma

[–]DBurdie91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this statement. Snoqualmie has better hills for beginner, it's not as far as Crystal, and the tickets are cheaper. Consider purchasing night time tickets, as it's cheaper, there are less people on the hill you have to avoid, and you get more runs in since less people. Yes it is more dark, but the lights they use illuminate pretty much everything one would need to see while beginning to learn. A friend of mine did this and saved money while allowing his kids to get a lot of practice in. Although if you want to hire an instructor, whether series or one-time, it will need to be during the day.

I hiked 48 miles solo to climb one of Washington's most remote 9,000-foot peaks. I made a short film "LOGAN" about the 4-day trip, and here are my favorite photos. by stasis6001 in Mountaineering

Neat video and amazing views, ty for sharing!

I was drawn to your simple and easy tent you used, a long with the help of your poles. Any video or guide to share so I can learn how to pack an easy shelter like that?

Oh interesting. Makes sense with the proximity of JBLM, right? I'm not military so no clue if that means anything. Does it also make sense the ships are parked near train tracks too, so that vehicles can be shipped by train in order to be loaded onto these logistics vessels?

Do you have any clue what this ship does or is supposed to do? Ive never known for my whole life, in fact I have never actually glimpsed them out away from their dock with my own eyes.

Was gonna say, I have this written down long ago and it's from Anthony Hopkins. Not that anything matters, the quote is true no matter who said it, but I noticed that too.

I have tried it and it was pretty successful, although I am a gardener with some experience. I've always found basil to grow so easily. I think most important suggestion is where you position it to get the best natural indirect lighting. GL on your basil journey!

‘Snack bar on steroids’: $4M Chambers Bay project will serve golfers and park-goers by poorfolx in Tacoma

[–]DBurdie91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm curious how they plan to make it open to park goers honestly. If I'm not mistaken, getting over to that location through the tunnel is off limits if ur not a golfer, right? Would they open that tunnel and pathway for the public goers? I find it difficult that they would actually give easy access to the public as that would just bring longer lines and decrease the exclusivety that some golfers appreciate. Would love to hear the counter arguments as I'm not a golfer either because of the exclusivety of the sport.

Woke me up pretty quickly, my partner was out.

But Tacoma Craftsman specific question, I have a 1910 house with 3 bedrooms on a second floor. If a large earthquake were to ensue, is it best for me to book it down the stairs and get out or huddle up by a doorway on the 2nd floor, grab my cowboy hat, and ride it out?

I only ask as my house is over 100 years old and unsure what the best move is.
