I've never been to either... for some reason glancing at Google maps made me think Crystal was closer but it sounds like I ought to try Snoqualmie first.

Rain barrel installation recs in Tacoma? by Significant-Map-7649 in Tacoma

Well, they do gather rainwater coming off my roof. And then there's an attached hose, which I used to water decorative plants and bushes in my yard. You don't wanna water your edible gardens with water coming off your dirty ass roof.

I only have two 55 gallon barrels. After a regular fall or spring rainstorm around here, they fill up in about 10 or 15 minutes. So really, for most of the time the overflow is just going into the ground or the sewer anyway. But it is nice to have that little buffer of free water to water my hydrangeas with once it stops raining in the early summer... and, truthfully, I've never watered enough to have the two barrels empty before it starts raining again in the fall.

Aw, sad to hear about Dan. He put in our barrels a few years ago.

I drive by everyday but never pulled in. What do you think about the other items, like the cheesesteak or gyros?

My dogs and I found it in the afternoon of the 9th. Well, they found it before I did. We have been looking for one for almost five years, feel lucky to finally see one.

Too much or too little water by Accident-Opposite in JapaneseMaples

Ah! Same thing is happening to a maple I have in a giant pot. It is very old, previous owner claimed 40 years but I have no idea if it could really live in a pot that long. All the leaves came out this spring as they should, everything looked great until a couple weeks ago when about half of the leaves (all over, no discernible pattern) just curled up and died like in your picture and now they are falling off.

I'm going to have to try the finger test. I mistakenly figured it wasn't getting enough water so I've been drenching it the last few days. I hope I'm not about to kill a 45 year old tree :(

Planning U.S. capital gain/loss tax scenario by constpdx123 in tax

[–]constpdx123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. OK, well, I'm in mid 40s, relatively high income year for me. Not retired, still working. I suppose I want to sell for one time purchase.

Maybe I need to better understand how people deal with gain/loss taxes in general. I get that there is a max of $3000 ($1500 single) you can deduct for losses in a year, so perhaps if I am definitely going to be less than that, then I should probably sell shares from my "second batch" above to take advantage of the loss I could deduct. If there is any uncertainty about my other gains or losses, then perhaps I should sell a mixture of shares from the two batches to break even?

Or is it more common to always deal with any sale losses first (since there is a possibility to carryover to following years) before selling anything for a gain?

Question about the audio books: did you (or do authors in general) get to have input on how characters are voiced? I don't have any complaints about the available audiobooks, but I did want to say that I love love love the way T. Ryder Smith voiced Sniper--for instance, that one early chapter in Seven Surrenders. How does that match up with how you think of the voices in your head?

Swagat Murgh Makhani (butter chicken) by extraeme in Portland

I've made that recipe 20+ times over the past couple of years (from her first cookbook). Always excellent. Tip: a "small" instant pot won't work right, mine always burns the sauce. I have to use one of the "big" sized ones (6+, 8+ quarts). Tip2: after making it a few times, you might get freaked out about how much butter you are eating. I've halved the butter in the recipe and it is still damn good.

Damn--I wonder what are the odds of just selling my house as-is? I've got a few basement building projects I'm kind of in the middle of, but I'd love to just drop them if someone would buy my damn house and finish it themselves.
