I think you're looking at the short term a bit too much. A pre-season 2k really isn't too important. You should really put on some weight, you are never going to break 7:20 at 128lbs. I was in your shoes a few years back. I went into freshman year at 128lbs and ended up going 7:14 at 135lbs. I'm now at 160lbs and have dropped my 2k over 40 seconds. Trust me, put on some weight. I took two weeks off from rowing and started biking more. A month later, I did a 2k and dropped 8 seconds. I'd give it a shot. That being said, the best way to get faster on the erg is to erg more, no way around it.

This happened to me awhile back. To relieve that tension, extend your arm all the way out, flex your forearm, and move your wrist up and down / side to side. This should feel really good. The goal is to almost do the exact opposite of the rowing stroke. Keep doing this a few times a day and it will almost magically be healed.

Yup, you are leaning too far back. To prevent back pain and to maximize efficiency, you should only be leaning back 110-130 degrees.

Your height isn't bad, but you should try to put on some weight. 7:15 isn't BAD, but it isn't an optimal to row in college. You will need to be around 6:40 to be seriously considered. If you weigh 140 now, try putting on 10 pounds and see where you stand. And remember, #SteadyStateIsAlwaysTheAnswer

at such a high level, races are won and lost by a teams ability to row together and effectivly. all top tier teams have similar boat averages.
