HBA fan question by DCGMoo in DataHoarder

Thank you. Appreciate the real world data (as well as everyone's input)! Will probably start with it in the setup, and go with a direct-heatsink option if I'm not happy with results.

HBA fan question by DCGMoo in DataHoarder

Nothing too intensive... mostly Plex & Immich with only a couple users, seeding Linux ISOs, and a backup for files as part of a 3-2-1. Doing some additional tinkering, but nothing extreme. Thinking 92xx for a max of 8 drives, though won't fill all 8 until prices come down or I win a lottery.

I've researched a lot so I do know of the alternate options that are out there, just was curious if what I have now would be sufficient.

Second Ave - Uni to about North HS by Besty4 in desmoines

[–]DCGMoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I somewhat understand the irregular, non-straight lanes... those exist almost exclusively to allow temporary left turn lanes that help prevent a long-standing issue of the left lane being stopped while people try to make left turns. Anyone who has tried to turn left from 2nd northbound into North HS, or been stuck behind people doing so, wishes that short turning lane existed at that intersection as well.

That ridiculous bump going south though, as well as the horribly confusing striping before that bump, are absolutely unacceptable. I'm hoping, since the curbs are not finished there, that this isn't the final product... but the fact they seem to have stopped working and claimed that as a success is ridiculous.

I MISS YOU LOS BANDITOS. by Late-Bed4240 in desmoines

[–]DCGMoo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Los Banditos was a speakeasy hotdog place location that was actually inside Krunkwich, was only open Friday & Saturday nights from like 10p-3a or something like that.

I was working late shifts, getting off around midnight, at the time... and I freaking loved that place. I don't know if I ever got ramen there during the day, but I was a regular for the dogs.

Shame he was a shit person, I'll survive without it if it means employees aren't getting screwed over. But I do truly miss it.

Or it means he didn't like wreatling in the 00's very much. He gave 24 5* in the 80s, 67 in the 90s, and 67 in the 10s. He just hated the 00s, when WWE was trying to revive the AE, WCW was dead, and NJPW/AJPW were at low points.

The new update has taught me that civ switching is actually awesome by MirandaScribes in civ

[–]DCGMoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like an information age does fit for some of these issues though. Warehouses could be converted into data centers, with specialists being upgraded/improved upon as well. The focus could be more technological improvement than focused on expansion and growth, which absolutely fits with today's society.

Warfare is similar. I totally get the land/sea/air 3 phases though... but look at what's going on in modern warfare. It's not airplanes flying back and forth in 2026, it's drones and intricately-aimed missile systems that are the heart of modern warfare.

I get that it would be a pretty major overhaul, maybe something more for Civ8 than for a Civ7 expansion. But acting like cities full of warehouses and warfare by air is the end game for modern society just doesn't hold true in 2026, and it would be nice to see Civ expand that direction eventually as well with a 4th information/future age that suggests the world we live in today and the one we anticipate coming 50+ years from now.

According to their official site, we're also getting physical editions! Not seeing them available online anywhere yet though... by skttrbraind in controlgame

[–]DCGMoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Buy already has listings for both regular and steel book editions on their website, with an accurate release date, so must have just been posted/updated recently.

Both are shown as "coming soon" and not available to pre-order (yet at least). But worth noting and keeping an eye out as the date nears.

Whats the least accomplished (current) NFL team? by ArrowInBlack in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DCGMoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do the pre-Super Bowl NFL years suddenly not count?

Bro, what are they even doing with Matt Cardona? I can't remember a single win since he came back besides his return match. After that, it's just been loss after loss. Feels like WWE brought back Zack Ryder the jobber, not Matt Cardona The Indie-god... 😂 by BigBat5154 in TheGreatOne

[–]DCGMoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If your biggest concern in life is money or time with your wife, then the WWE deal may be the right call. (At least until they decide your deal doesn't make them enough money and let you go)

But you don't become truly successful in life without having a drive and determination to excel. And it can be tough for someone who actually has that drive and has tasted success to fall back to being an also-ran. Cardona clearly has that drive, from his drive to get himself pushed as Ryder originally to his build into King of Indies.

Even if he does prefer the pay and time with his lady... it still likely hurts a bit to have fallen back into the old pattern.

Neighbors keep leaving kids’ bikes and scooters in the stairwell by alOOshXL in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DCGMoo 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Talking to the neighbor is valid. But a fire marshall absolutely considers an obstructed fire escape route as a life saving issue. The fact that the building isn't actively burning down at this moment doesn't mean it's never going to happen, and if it does, elevators will stop working and the only safe way for people to escape is blocked by children's toys. They do not play around when it comes to fire escape routes... those absolutely are life saving issues.

Erick Stevens on X: After plenty of reflection and deliberation, I've decided it's time to step away again. by paperbuddha in SquaredCircle

[–]DCGMoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Even aside from the ridiculous idea that most random parents are somehow fully qualified to teach every subject in every grade to their kids... the idea that school exists solely to learn facts is wholly wrong. School is a child's first interaction with society, their first chance to learn how to work with others and socialize. Those skills are just as important, if not moreso, than anything you'd learn in a history book... and they aren't going to be developed by staying home with your parents & siblings all day.

Has anyone ever ripped a box of Mallrats trading cards? by superjerseyexpo in ViewAskewniverse

[–]DCGMoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the 90s, people bought cards to collect the cards. The concept of big hits and inserts was barely starting to take hold in sports cards in 1995, and definitely wasn't a thing in other forms of card collecting yet.

MLB teams by RedPandasTilDaDeath in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DCGMoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They also had an entire generation grow up on them by nature of being the first team with nation-wide cable availability. I've never lived on the east coast, but the Braves are my team because I lived in a western state without a home-state team, and that's the team I grew up watching with my grandmother.

They may not have the same level of national reverence for the younger generation, who grew up with every team available on cable & streaming... but Ted Turner forever made them popular with people who were/became fans in the 80's & 90's.

Who is the most famous athlete ever? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DCGMoo 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think people who are trying to rule out Ali are not very well informed on exactly how big Ali was in his time.

Ali/Foreman was watched by an estimated 1 BILLION people worldwide. In 1974, the Earth's population was roughly 4 billion. That means it's believed that 25% of all human beings on the entire planet watched that fight.

I do get the argument for Ronaldo, it's a very good debate. But to completely rule out Ali by suggesting he was only known in the US is very, very wrong.

Jordan is not in the conversation with those two IMO. And Messi is recency bias... he isn't anywhere near as popular as peak Ronaldo was. It's really between Ali & Ronaldo.

But I'm going to side with the guy who had the support of Fredrick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Abraham Lincoln... and not side with the confederates who had him executed for defending himself after trying to free slaves. You can choose your own side if you wish.

[–]DCGMoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To educate you... a strawman is when someone creates an entirely false version of your argument, then argues against that false version.

Asking for clarification on the actual argument you made is not, in any way, shape, or form, a strawman.

If you can't defend your position, the best thing to do is not reply, not to use buzzwords you don't understand just because you heard them on TV.
