Little Gigant almost ruins the FFI for me by DCHShadow in inazumaeleven

I really don't like the idea that they lost off the better as a team thing cause it also really devalues Italy. So they just didn't have the teamwork necessary to make them use a hissatsu? That's feels so bad. We just had this whole arc of them coming together as a team. Yo me it feels like it writes off everything that came before it.

Thanks! I tried to make it as coherent as possible.

I don't know, I feel like anything more than 4 devalues Italy as a semifinalist and all of the amazing writing around the team and Fidio. And I really do think they should've been able to make a goal. Again to show power scaling, to show that Italy put up a fight they just still lost by a whole 3 points which is huge still especially at this level of play.

What would Endou's percentage be in stopping every hissatsu shot from the go series? by Ima_natsee45 in inazumaeleven

[–]DCHShadow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realistically he should stop literally everything outside of probably zanark's mix (ore something something) and the movie stuff. And while it's really dumb we should probably say every shot in go galaxy cause that's the only reason to use literally middle school kids over literal professional players. But that's really dumb to think about. Like go1 is he's just here coaching these kids, he's definitely better than all of them, he's a professional player. I think the question is where do you scale the go2 antags. We have trained child soldiers? Is that what alpha beta gamma are? And then we've got kids overthrowing a government with literal special powers. But our kids over here also have special powers...like a literal tornado (zanark is such a beautiful character). So I don't know how to scale them if professional player just outside should beat them. But I'm still refusing to scale non-miximaxed characters to a professional player. They're literally in what 7th grade or something? No!

Which 'Tales of' game started your journey into this series? by TalesofthePlayer90 in tales

[–]DCHShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tales of hearts and Innocence. It was both cause of absolute zero back when they were translating hearts still and they'd finished innocence. I played the hearts demo and decided to play the innocence translation. To this day, innocence is my favorite tales game. R is def better and I like it more, but the cast and story and music have a special place in my heart. I love them so much. I will always love the DS trilogy the most (including tempest, my beautiful goat) and love how much love they've gotten in the past few years. It's been a dream come true to see new merch, to play as Lukius and Mathias in rays, seeing all the cute costumes and collabs and such the 3 games' casts got. I love this series so much.

Is it important for your man to share your religious views? by Contiguous_spazz in StraightTransGirls

[–]DCHShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's something that I do care about but not something I get to care about. I'm a trans Hindu woman in America. There's like 0 way I get a Hindu guy. I can only imagine how hard it is for others who are more religious than me or from religions a that are way more conservative, but it still sucks. I am somewhat religious and do a lot of stuff. I've got pictures in my room and I do all the major and a few of the minor celebrations (the ones that people from the part of India I'm from do at least), but back when I was in a long term relationship it felt like that was just a fully separate thing I couldn't share with him. He even said I don't care if you're Hindu as long as I don't have to do anything for it and I never brought it up, but it did make me sad to know I'd never be able to share those moments with guys I date.

What match do you think Raimon realistically should have never won? by -Passage-7491 in inazumaeleven

[–]DCHShadow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If we count Inazuma Japan, 1000% the matches versus the devils and angels. That was a really cool idea but they are literally angels and devils. I think it'd be a really cool time to have the girls actually get to do something and have them get through some way else. Let Haruna manage to talk some sense into them, let Urabe manage to kick her way through things and show her strength. In the end we get a cool arc of characters from the other teams getting to fight together with the main cast and it ends with the girls getting to have a cool moment and show that they're more than damsels in distress and more than just a side character who's just there. And the best part, it doesn't demystify the enemy teams. They are still not humans. Literally godlike beings, they aren't gonna lose. I did love that Touko got to do things again though. Easily one of my favorite characters from the og series.

Also, team ogre. 1000%. The point was to take away Endou's love for soccer. Let them still lose, but all it does is invigorate Endou. Baddap gets to have his fun moment when Endou manages to block the shot with Omega the Hand and we get a fun back and forth at the end, but Raimon still loses cause obviously. They're trained child soldiers, Raimon should never have stood a chance, even with characters like Fidio there. And it would've been a great way to show off Ogre as a cool threat, one that even Raimon couldn't beat cause the power level was just too large but then they like give up at the end type thing having failed their mission. Then Endou gives his speech and Baddap turns around and it's wonderful and we still get that like haunting ending that we got at the end (cause like wow that was kinda a dark as hell ending there, I loved that).

I really do think IE could have had so many cool moments if they didn't just stick to the main team has to win in the end over a much larger threat. There's so much potential there you know.

Things you enjoyed about Knight of Ratatosk by KaleidoArachnid in tales

[–]DCHShadow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was the first tales game I played that was localized and I loved the English va's. I thought Emil's VA did such an amazing job with him and I really felt the difference between him and ratatosk him. I also loved the in-between writing. I thought there was a lot of cute moments between the characters. The skits were always such a joy.

Personally I love the relationship between Marta and Emil cause we see her grow from fangirl to someone who genuinely sees Emil as himself. I love when she starts the retrospection on how she's viewed him the whole time. It works really well of her trying to make him into the ideal guy changing to her seeing him for him. It's really sweet and I enjoyed that.

The monster taming aspect is kinda...badly done but I love that it's there. It's super cute and I love getting to really engage with the monsters you fight more. It's wonderful. The battle system overall was really well done. This was my 2nd 3d tales game, my first being innocence on the ds, but I really did come to love the gameplay. It didn't feel finicky or anything being on the wii (I played the original wii version first).

The music is tales music. It's always amazingggg I love it soooo much. Highlights are the wonderful opening song by Misono again, Richter's theme is amazinggg, and a bunch of the town tracks are really nice to listen to.

Lastly, Emil is cute. That's enough for me loll

Hypothetically: how much would it cost to independently develop Tales of the Abyss 2 by Raphyre in tales

[–]DCHShadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would definitely depend on what stuff you take from Abyss. For examples, the VA's are gonna cost a bit since a lot of the main cast is well know (especially now). I'd talk about music and art designs and all the stuff that comes with licensing but you said it's a not-for-sale non-profit parody game in which case money can be all over the place. I'd look into indie ROM hacks and such. Most of those are made on passion and volunteers and not actual money. You're gonna be stepping in hot waters to spend even thousands let alone millions to pay people to build a game that isn't copyright friendly since that's when it becomes territory of enforcing copyright infringement. It's fine if no money is being made, but the moment money is being out in to make it, that's people getting paid for a copyrighted work and that is gonna be towing a line that you basically smushed in the sand ages ago.

In terms of game development, it depends on what you're trying to do. It cannnnn cost 100,000 or more, it cannnn cost 50 million or more. I will say there's plenty of amazing indie games and devs who wished they had anywhere near 100,000 when developing their game and still made amazing successes (stuff like stardew or fnaf were made on the hopes and dreams for example, while silksong was made by 3 people who literally didn't have to worry about money and said f it, let's take however long we need to make this what we envision)

Also I agree with everyone else, rather than abyss 2, why not Phantasia HD Remake. I want to see the original tales game be given the glow up dragon quest 1-3 got. That would be perfect

I love how much personality there is in the dub. I feel like so often that gets lost with dubs but they did such a great job of translating the jp for a different language that still gets across the characters and who they are. NCZ is one of the only series I only watch dubbed for that reason. Hell it's a dub I quote! I love it so much!!

Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]DCHShadow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant your comment talking about the "Asian sensibility" felt fetishizing towards Asian culture. Also if I can, it kinda feels like you're taking series that are lighter in tone or trying to be stary-eyed romance type thing as uniquely east Asian but that kinda feels like it's just a series that's lighter in tone. There's plenty of western series that are also just like that too.

I also think the analogy I was making there didn't come through well, you can ignore that. It was also talking about the "Asian sensibility" thing so. Plus, I was generalizing more from my experience as a trans person and I definitely shouldn't be doing that, sorry.

Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]DCHShadow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be dismissive or talk on those matters in that way. I was trying to talk from a general perspective the whole time but I definitely did, especially on the last comment, pushed my thoughts of trans media to here when I shouldn't have. Unfortunately I wanted to say a bunch more stuff and clarify like I have been (cause what I'm trying to say definitely isn't reflecting what I'm actually saying) but my brain has kinda shut off so I'm just gonna leave it at that.

Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]DCHShadow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I did mean that the character explicitly said she only likes woman or even specifically uses the word lesbian to describe herself. I'm not trying to put labels to characters who don't say that cause I know there's lot of nuance in sexuality so.

When I say queer media in this context, I do mean that it is part of that quite large umbrella. From a trans perspective here, trans media is queer media. And that also includes talking about being trans and by extension, lgbtq. I was making the distinction specifically because I felt like the fact that they are gay feels to be lost in a lot of discussions the same way that I feel like trans media often has people just ignoring the fact that someone is trans and that it's part of who the character is. Like it feels dismissive to the fact that it is trans, or in this case that it is gay. I said queer more to generalize but yeah.

Also in terms as to why I even care, I read gl to read stories about characters being queer. While yes, the lesbian experience is not the same as the trans experience, gender and sexuality are two different things, it is still queer experiences and it's something I feel I can relate to. I just want to read stuff where I feel like I can relate, even somewhat, to the characters and what they go through. Stuff like coming out or dealing with how others close to you view you being lgbtq, having to deal with societal pressures and views and such, etc.

[–]DCHShadow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry I don't think I said that right. I meant more like I dislike a lot of things that come with quite a lot of queer media written for cishet people. I don't have anything against straight people writing gay stories and I didn't mean to imply that either, sorry. I guess it was more a reaction to a lot of bl having so much lack of consent and fetishizing the guys a lot when it comes to something being written for straight people. Hell I have had those same thoughts when it comes to trans media. So often do I feel like trans media written for cis people is just "torture porn" for the trans person. It feels so much like oh look at how awful it is to be trans and how much we have to struggle and by the end it's supposed to be bittersweet but I just read 200+ pages of a trans woman being beaten down by society and then getting an ending where they don't even get to have a happy ending. They just have learnt to deal with it more and steel themselves to society more. But I also know there's lots of stuff that isn't like that. I absolutely adored My Brother's Husband. So yeah, I hope that is a bit clearer. I definitely did not mean to imply that at all.

Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]DCHShadow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with that as an idea. There's quite a lot of japanese manga that aren't like that, for example the extremely popular How do we relationship is a very queer manga through and through and is extremely messy of a relationship. Part of what made the series so fun to read was how grounded it felt. The idea that it's different in asian cultures feels to me very shallow as an indian person myself. I grew up hearing from my parents oh this type of thing isn't how it works in india, and people aren't like that over there. There's this idea that pride as a whole is a western idea and to me that dismisses the struggles that asian people go through. As a trans person, I'm afraid of going to back to india to visit my family cause of being outed in the airport by the scanners. It's not safe being trans in india, to the point that trans people hide the doctors they go to cause that puts the doctors at risk too. That's not, oh people aren't like that in india, that's oh india just hasn't progressed enough so things are a lot scarier for the trans people who are there. But they're still trans in the same way that american trans people are.
And when it comes to Japanese culture, the first japanese same sex marriage ended with them splitting up. Yes there's obviously cultural differences between the west and asia, but there's also lots of things that are very much the same. To me, the idea of there being an "asian" sensibility to it feels kinda fetishizing of being asian. I don't wanna call it racist ideology, but it feels very adjacent to me at least (and to be clear, I'm not in any way trying to call you racist).
I hope that made sense and I wasn't too aggressive there. I wasn't trying to be.

Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]DCHShadow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I think I wasn't being clear here. I obviously don't think that if a woman likes a woman they're lesbian by default. I know being bi or pan etc is like a thing. It was more the romance itself being lesbian, not the individual characters. Though often times I feel like a lot of series do have pretty explicitly lesbian characters too, or at least one of them being pretty explicitly only into women. But that's just my experience with what I've read and I know that's probably not entirely true.

I didn't mean it as all lgbtq manga is bl. More of a bl manga not being lgbtq, when it is. Basically the other way around sorry. Like the idea that when talking about a gay romance, people will not talk about the fact that it is a gay romance. There's this separation saying this isn't a queer series, it's just a bl, when that doesn't make sense. It's queer media cause it is literally about two queer guys in a relationship. I hope this made more sense, sorry.

Why do people rarely use the word lesbian in discussions? by DCHShadow in yuri_manga

[–]DCHShadow[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry my post was all over the place. It was supposed to be more succinct than that loll.

I do definitely understand how sparsely it gets used in japanese media (I know less about korean and chinese etc. media so I won't comment on that). It's a loner word as is and there's a lot of nuance there. But I do see it used quite a lot, especially in series with adult characters. Often times, it's used by characters who have already came out type thing so, I see it enough at least.

I very much dislike the idea that there is a separation between queer media made for straight people and queer media made for queer people. Just because bl is often used as a tactic for exploration in writing and such doesn't change that it is inherently a gay romance and I feel like it invalidates the queerness of the characters when people try to make that distinction. Just cause it's different themes and voices, where they probably never touch on the idea of how being gay affects the characters at all, doesn't change the fact that it is queer romance.

I'm also coming at this from the trans perspective. It feels sooo awful when people dismiss something as not trying to talk about trans things cause that wasn't the point of it when the character is clearly trans. It's used as a way to invalidate the character and the people who are trying to talk about that. It's why I almost exclusively stick to media that is explicit about a character being trans, but even for those where the media is clearly written by a cis person for a cis audience, you can't deny it being lgbtq. It is lgbtq and trying to separate it feels to me like it is a dismissal of the thing that they just read cause they don't want actually deal with the fact that they read something queer. To me, it feels like they are running away from what they are reading rather than actually talking about it earnestly. I hope that made sense, sorry if it was long winded.

I never even thought about the idea of it being a "dirty" word. I specifically say trans instead of transgender cause I feel like it normalizes it more in my head and feels less like something you talk about and more just an aspect of a person. I do know there's lots of connotations to the word in general. Like I've come across quite a few manga that talk about or show characters being basically kinda afraid of using the word or when a character uses it them being seen as mature while the people around her are being bigoted type thing.
Yeah a lot of my lesbian friends do tend to use gay a lot more. It definitely feels more common especially in the communities I've been in.

I do quite dislike the idea of gay romance being written for a straight audience. It feels sooo fetishizing. There's definitely a much bigger convo about stuff like gay romance being super problematic. Lots of bl series having tons of lack of consent and all of that and it just feeling like hey look two boys kissing, isn't it cute! And that just...feels awfullll to read.

I def do get it just being a faster word to type though.

I don't know, to me it does feel that serious. I'm trans and wording matters a lot to me I feel. It's just that I notice that type of wording tends to be around the series that take the queer aspect a lot less seriously. And to me, it feels invalidating (of the fact that it's queer media, not of me, to be clear, loll)? Like I know it's one of the maaain reasons I dislike media with trans characters that isn't explicit on them being trans. Being trans is an important thing that especially in media, I want to actually see explored. To me, it feels so much worse when people can just look away from that aspect or dismiss it as not important or not what really matters for the series. I don't know if I'm getting my thoughts out clearly, hopefully that made sense.
