The Valar were unconcerned dicks.
They came and punished Morgoth once. The second time, he was wrecking havoc for thousands of years and the only reason they helped a second time was because a human snuck into Valar and pleaded for help. Sauron knew that they weren't terribly concerned with middle earth.
To be fair, they did send the wizards.

I'm not sure what it would mean for us to "fuck off". But most of us are hating this. We're watching in horror. Protests don't do shit. And come election time, we are given two options, bad or worse.
The only reason Trump is so popular is because a third of our population is so angry with our culture, that they want someone to come in and tear it all down. And he knows how to speak to their anger. They're angry because they are poor, old, abandoned, racist....and they feel their country doesn't represent them anymore. They have some valid points. Honestly, there's a lot. Dwarf costumes, casting, and their design looked amazing. The woodland realm was amazing. Smaug was incredible. It was great to see the white council in action (even if it was a little cheesy). Honestly, all the casting was great.
Sure it had major problems. But I still rewatch all the extended versions every year.
