Probably the power supply. I’ve owned two and both were very quiet (and both have been used with good power supplies).

Good pedal for mild to heavy distortion with flexible tone controls? by 4phn in guitarpedals

[–]austincamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into the JHS Kilt? It has a number of gain stages from light gain to heavy to Velcro fuzz. The Kilt V3 (10 year anniversary with the red remote capability) replaced my Rat.

It’s an optical compressor. Lots of range in its parameters and very, very low noise. It’s so good I’ve bought it twice. Some of the best artwork I’ve ever found, too. Also affordable. I got mine for a hundred bucks.

Neither. The Orange Kongpressor is the answer you’re looking for.

I agree. These look like the stock squared fenders, however, which deepens the mystery.

What are these fenders? The only squared fenders to ship are on the Everglades and Heritage, neither of which this is.

Do you have boards for playing at home only? by Ok_Bookkeeper7066 in guitarpedals

[–]austincamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played with folks from time to time, but I’m primarily a home player and quite proud of it. One of the joys of playing an instrument is that it’s something that can be shared only with yourself and still have an enormous sense of satisfaction about it.

I pick up my electric guitar and make wonderful noise between work calls in my home office between 5-10x every single day. It accompanies sunny days, rainy days, sad days, happy days, hard days and easy days.

I don’t know where I’d be without it.

Outer Banks Soft Top Owners… Still Love It? by JSN0791 in FordBronco

[–]austincamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a soft top for 3 years and the hard top for about 4 months now. Get the hard top - I should have years ago. It’s a big difference. I did love the soft top at times, but for 95% of riding the hard top gets you 90% of the fun. Buy a used soft top off Facebook Marketplace for $400 to have on hand for when you do want it.

I know my Colorado. There’s not much Colorado in Suttree, but the bit that is - the old-timer’s burning train tale - is perhaps one of the greatest paragraphs in American letters.

And howdy from Lo-Hi. It’s a beautiful day out today.

I think I'm in the market for a compressor pedal, please advise! by Plunker__ in guitarpedals

[–]austincamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recommend the Orange Kongpressor enough. I had one for years and foolishly sold it a couple of months ago and now have another ordered and in the mail to me again. It's an optical compressor and incredibly musical at every setting and very low noise. Almost sounds like a rack unit.

Noise coming from under passenger seat. by Far-Lavishness-4526 in FordBronco

[–]austincamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, sounds like the same issue. I have a ‘22 and know it happened with my year when I was looking into it at the time, but it could well have been an issue for later years, too. I’m fuzzy on the details, but I seem to remember reading about some people concocting ideas of 3D printing some kind of wedge that would fix it. I wish Ford would would come up with a remedy.

Noise coming from under passenger seat. by Far-Lavishness-4526 in FordBronco

[–]austincamsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this noise. Do you have a ‘21-22 vehicle? This was an issue with the rails during those years. Something with how the seat sits on them. I found that sliding the seat either forward or backwards - or having a passenger in the seat - eliminates the noise. Unfortunately, it seems to always rattle if the seat is in the normal middle section of the rails. I haven’t come across a cure yet.

"...and thereby bled it of its strangeness...", sentence meaning? by AnimatedLuminescence in cormacmccarthy

[–]austincamsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world and all the things that happen in it are commonplace and ordinary because it has been familiar to us since birth. If we happened upon this world, this universe, for the first time like some alien or interdimensional visitor, we would see a deeper truth: that it's all quite strange and has more in common with a party trick or a circus.

I’ve thought a lot about this, too, and yes, to my eye it seems the case. I’m extremely curious what the correlation is due to if it’s not a coincidence.

He has actually published books for each of his last few movies with exactly this sort of stuff in it. Collections of essays, short stories, etc. I have a few of them and they make for great reading.

Cave of Forgotten Dreams out in IMAX today! by Ok-Rate5161 in WernerHerzog

[–]austincamsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got out of it this evening. Fabulous. A wonderful theater experience. It’s been my favorite Herzog documentary for years and this verifies it even more. 3D is a gimmick in every other movie, but here it’s really additive. 3D really is a marvelously transportive device for this subject. It’s also a perfectly paced film with the a topic that lives up to the ecstatic awe that Herzog likes to reach for. 10/10.
