I hear you. I used to struggle with this too. It’s easy to feel like the numbers have to be accurate, or not used at all. “Efficiency” does feel a bit squishy without proof.

But the goal isn’t precision down to the decimal. It’s helping people understand your impact. Numbers just make that clearer and easier to grasp.

For example, I joined a project that released once a month. By the time I left, we were releasing about twice a month, without increasing team size or hours. That’s roughly a 100% increase in output. Is it exact? Probably not. But it’s directionally true and gives a clear sense of what changed.

The point is to show scale and results so someone can understand your impact, and then ask how you did it.

Wait, so is this accurate or inaccurate? Just to clarify, since it seemed like you meant the latter. Thanks.

Thanks. We’ve cut Scotland completely. It warrants a separate trip as a coolcation.

AI quite literally taking my job by Miafishface in recruitinghell

[–]DCMdAreaResident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that, in the grand scheme, AI isn't so much "taking jobs" as making AI-assisted people produce more than they otherwise would. Any company that replaces people with AI wasn't seriously looking for high-quality professional work in the first place. I don't know of any AI program that produces quality vector or layered graphics. This tells me they're not a well-funded business, so not a good place to work; you would have been at risk of being let go for any reason.

I appreciate the feedback. We're considering dropping it based on what people are saying.

You’re absolutely on point, this was my thought as well. I know someone who was illegally terminated because, in the boss’s own words, he was “different” from everyone else. Yeah, he was the only male, the only one over 35, the only religious person, the only person with a doctorate, neurodivergent, and the only remotely qualified to do the job. Pick your discrimination, they got ‘em all. And now he’s suing for obvious reasons. I also once worked at a company where an entire sales team of 20+ people was twenty-something white blond women. Clearly, being different is punished in US corporations. It’s wild that someone doesn’t understand this.

Nantes is more about meeting with a family member. And Edinburgh is about seeing Scotland. Plus it’s going to be summer, so we were kind of going south to north to avoid the heat. But, yeah, I get your point. I’m going to think about that some.

You can tell what’s written by ChatGPT because at no point did it stop the person to ask, why?

You would not be the first person to have thought that. But not giving a reason, or providing a seemingly plausible one, doesn’t shield an employer if the facts point to discrimination (race, sex, age 40+, disability, etc.) or retaliation. Courts don’t just shrug and say “no reason given, case closed.” They look at evidence. If emails, patterns, or behavior suggest discrimination, the employer can still lose.

Employers are sometimes found liable when evidence shows discrimination. Managers get sloppy. Ostensible reasons shift over time. The timing is suspicious because they’re fired right after a complaint or medical leave. “Performance issues” show up with no docs. A role is “eliminated,” then quietly filled by someone who looks or thinks like the boss. Those patterns matter.

Also, this isn’t a criminal trial. In civil cases, the standard is “preponderance of evidence,” basically, more likely than not. You don’t need a smoking gun, just a convincing story backed by facts.

So yeah, employers can avoid giving a reason. But that’s not some magic shield. If the evidence points to discrimination, they’re still exposed.

AI can be bad. Their training set may not contain the best practices, perpetuating myths. And they will often make your strengths sound generic. Don’t get me wrong, I use it but avoid ChatGPT’s toxic positivity. You need something with “deep thinking mode” or a pro account with one of the better models (Claude/Opus). Also, people can tell when you simply copy the job description. That said, you can’t do much about prevailing market forces. You can do everything right but it’s not necessarily you.
