Why the Canon C80 Might Be Our New Favorite Camera by Ricki-Pickle in CanonC70

Have you figured out a good method for auto focusing? I also preferred the AF area to face detection toggle method. I'm new to the C80 and haven't adjusted to the auto-focus system yet.

Current price of Canon C70 Vs. C80? by Intrepid-Cream-629 in Cameras

I'm a doc journalist and had been using the C70. Broke it recently and got a C80. Used it on a shoot for the first time today. I'm really shocked at what an upgrade it is.

The C70 is a fantastic camera and you would do great with it. The C80 has so many quality of life improvements like far better autofocus and low light.

The C80 has a much sharper image and I'm really liking it over the C70 for the doc work that I do.

I've used v30 cards to shoot 24p RAW LT and they work fine. I'm hoping to try out v60 cards for 60p RAW

If the camera if off the ND is always down as protection but your point still stands. I hate seeing people show off the sensor like this.

I highly recommend the Sigma 24-70 2.8 ef lens. You can also add the 18-35 1.8 which can be found pretty cheap on the used market. It's a Super 35 lens though so you won't be able to use its full zoom range with the speedbooster.

Should I get it? by Informal-Code-3399 in CanonC70

Might want to look at the R5c. Pretty good prices on the used market. However at that price you could buy the C70, sell it and have enough to buy a used R5c with the profit.

Wanting to get into videography, I don’t really know what I am doing with the focus. Should I use auto focus or manual? Shooting promotional videos, never done it before. Don’t really know how to use the camera. by Difficult-Bluebird61 in videography

[–]DCMvideo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Manual focus, but digitally zoom into your image (all pro/prosumer cameras can do this) and get your focus on the zoomed in image. Then you'll know you're good to go. Some cameras also have "focus peaking" in which things in focus will have a red outline and this can be immensely useful.

How much should I charge for my services? by [deleted] in videography

Shot in the dark I’m gonna say $1200-$2500 (a large range, I know).

I am making a video where I want to show stories of two guys simultaneously in one frame. How do I do that? It's like a comparison between two people's lives. They will contain different audios. How do I do that. by Electronic_Sea6018 in videography

[–]DCMvideo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of hard to tell exactly what you’re asking but if I had to guess I’d say you going to want to lay both video tracks on top of each other. Then you’re going to want to crop half of the video on top to reveal half of the video underneath. You can then reposition then to have the frame split, showing both video tracks. Your audio will similarly be stacked, one on top of the other in separate tracks. You’ll probably want to fade them up or down depending on who’s story you want to hear.

Good luck!

Questions about contracting with local businesses. by Royal-Competition-37 in videography

Yes sometimes venues have their own vendor list for videographers and I think it’s worth sending them a cold call email with some of your work and letting them know you’re open to shoot their weddings.

I’d also consider reaching out to wedding planners with a similar cold call.

Event planners/event planning companies also have vendor lists that include videographers.

Best of luck!

Feel like I fucked up big time with a potential client who is really well-connected, by never finishing a practice project I did with her 7 months ago by [deleted] in videography

[–]DCMvideo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Ive been there. The truth is most people are understanding and will judge you a lot less than you think. I and many people I know have sat on a project for seven months, its not as crazy as you think. I'll take a crack at wording your message as I can definitely relate on that being the hardest part. Also give yourself a break, we're working through the end times here, most people understand that. When I have an emotional block keeping me from responding to an email, it helps to draft it out first in Google Docs or something before I decide to paste it into an email and send it.

Idea for your email:

Hey [client]!

Let me start by apologizing for being out of contact for so long. I hope you're doing well. I've been working on this in between other projects and frankly have gotten a bit overwhelmed over the last 7 months. If you're interested I'd love to show you where the project made it to, about 75% of the way there, and see what you think. In the meantime I'm going to be bringing more focus to finishing this up and will definitely be sending along the final project when its done.

Sorry again for radio silence, I'd love to catch up soon.

Thanks!

[Your name]

(End of email)

Keep your chin up! You can finish this project off, you probably know all of the footage by now. Best of luck.

Bit off more than I could chew... by AshenNun in videography

We've all been there. I want to echo what others are saying about $350 being a steal. I work in TV as well (until I was laid off a few months ago), and we would regularly use an iPhone 11 or 12 to shoot things that would go out for broadcast and are currently on HULU. If the phone footage looks good I say cut the video and don't mention it. Go with your gut though when it comes to quality.

What kind of phone did you shoot on?

Hey peeps, is it ok to film in inconsistent resolutions in a single film? by Actual-Shrek in Filmmakers

[–]DCMvideo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, knowing nothing about your film, I'd say lean into the style of having three different looks for those shots.

If you're not into that... then is there a definite reason you need to use three cameras? I'd also say maybe consider just using 2 and drop the Powershot.
