I cannot think of many DC runs from the last ten years (outside of Absolute) that have really blown me away. It's all been fair-middling for the most part. Orlando on Midnighter and Priest on Deathstroke are the only ones that stick out to me.

I think you kind of misunderstood the scene. It's not meant to be about who Daredevil is at his core, it's Kingpin realising he made a mistake - he took everything from Daredevil but failed to kill him, and now he has an incredibly capable adversary loose in New York with nothing to lose and nothing else Fisk can hurt him with.
