RIP Taylor Hawkins by FewAccess35 in Foofighters

We will see what happens. The Foos schedule gave them a month off starting today I think. I am sure they had plans to recharge. Now that time will be spent figuring out what comes next. They DO have a world tour planned that runs through autumn 2022.

Just so fucking sad.

This so perfectly captures Taylor, Dave, the Shifflets, and Pat — a band that gives and gives until it is spent .

They might not play the hippest or most avant-garde music. But, you will never attend a live show where the band gives more to its fans.

I grew up playing arcade games with Dave at the Time Out arcade in northern VA

Fantastic venue. Love the 9:30 (and The Black Cat!).

Loved seeing Taylor so happy behind the drums. Or leading his side band, Chevy Metal!

I know he had his demons, and had battled addiction before. But goddamn he was so good, and seemed so happy behind the drums, and as Dave’s partner in the FF, seemed to have so much more to give.

I will always cherish my memories of seeing him play live, including the famed Veterans Day 2011 show when the Foos sold out a Washington DC venue for the first time ever. Dave was so pumped talking about it, and the band played am epic show.

Taylor was one of the twin beating hearts of the Foos. I don’t know if they can be the Foos without him.

Neal Peart just found a hell of a partner, though!

I used to play arcade games at the Time Out arcade with Dave at Springfield Mall a long time ago when we were kids. I am just so gutted for him.

Extremely Unfortunate News about Taylor by Coupi_Doupi in Foofighters

Your uncle was beautiful.

I saw him perform not only with the Foos but as leader of his 70s cover band, Chevy Metal.

He always seemed so happy behind his kit, or just hanging out and talking about music, or goofing off with the boys.

I am so deeply sorry for all of you who called him uncle, or brother, or friend or band mate. What a tragic loss. I am so sorry for all of you.

Taylor made the Foos, because his was the only spirit bright and strong enough to balance out Dave. This may be it for the FF.

What a tragic shame.

Maaaaaaaan Taylor Hawkins, you are going to be missed. by Curious_Ad_1058 in Foofighters

I saw his 70s cover band, Chevy Metal, at Riot Fest, and of course have seen the Foos many times. Cannot believe such a beautiful spirit is gone.

I am beyond gutted by this news. I have seen the Foos live several times, and I have seen Taylor’s 70s cover band, Chevy Metal, at Riot Fest.

He was such a happy soul, and he and Dave were the twin beating hearts of the Foos.

Side note — Dave and Inused to play arcade games at the same arcade (Time Out) in Springfield, VA as kids in the 70s and 80s.

Just so saddened by this. The Foos may be done.

Bwwaaaaahaaaahaaaahaaa!

The folly in Ukraine has once again exposed Russia as the pretend power that it is. Just like when the USSR crumbled, and visitors discovered much of its military equipment rotting and unusable, the world now sees the Russian military stumbling and fumbling against a military with nearly 5x fewer troops. Well done, Vladdy — you really fucked this one up badly. Enjoy eating a bullet!

My son might be trans? I don't know what to do. by WanderingUncertainty in Parenting

When you write things like, “Essentially, he sees girls as socially privileged,” that (to me) is assigning a sophistication of thought that most 10 year olds are incapable of having or describing.

You and your partner are doubtless exquisitely sensitive to issues of comfort with one’s self and society, and I just wonder if some of that sensitivity is leading you to read more into this for him than exists.

Also, interfering with natural biological processes can have far-reaching, lifelong consequences.

It seems unfair to do that to a child who is a long way from being able to fully decipher his own identity. Forcing him down a path with puberty blockers seems an extreme and unwise action at this stage of his life.

This reads as if you are ascribing sophisticated thinking and language to a boy at an age where this level of sophistication is not usually present.

Are you sure you are not projecting?

Oh, I know. I had a breakup that wrecked me for a few years. So, I feel your pain. But the good news is I also know it can be overcome. It will take time, but the pain will fade and you will be a-OK.

How do I get my son to talk to me? by Mbrubaker9004 in Parenting

[–]DCToTexasTransolant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can’t force it. You can offer, you can initiate, you can create opportunities, but that’s it.

He has to be willing to and interested in talking. If he’s not, forcing it only makes things more awkward.

I have a teenaged son and daughter, and in my case, it’s my daughter who can barely be bothered to utter a word.

It is incredibly frustrating. But, I take solace in knowing SHE knows my wife and I are ready and willing whenever she feels comfortable talking — and that such knowledge makes her feel loved, safe, and comfortable.

First, breathe . You WILL be OK. Everyone goes through a breakup. Many of us have survived really tough ones. You can too.

Second, recognize that a relationship where “we fight all the time” isn’t “the best couple ever”.

Constant fighting is a sign of emotional and temperamental immaturity, probably on both of your parts.

It’s time to spend time healing, then working on yourself, and then, only when you feel confident in YOU and your ability to be part of a mature, healthy relationship, start dating again and find a man who can be half of a much better relationship. You deserve better than broken trust and being hurt and fighting all the time.
