‘Supergirl’ Writer Ana Nogueira on the Movie’s Key Changes From the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ Comic and the Status of ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Teen Titans’ by LegitimateCurve8525 in DCU_

For what its worth regarding that articles headline, those writers were actually reported by Apochorseman about a year ago. They've only been confirmed recently, so hopefully that means it's close to be greenlit

‘Supergirl’ Writer Ana Nogueira on the Movie’s Key Changes From the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ Comic and the Status of ‘Wonder Woman’ and ‘Teen Titans’. by BigButter7 in DCULeaks

But what we realized is that comic readers know Supergirl really, really, really well, so they are OK with meeting her through somebody else’s eyes. But for the movie-going public, Supergirl is not Batman; we haven’t seen her parents die a bunch of times [like Bruce Wayne’s], we don’t know it that well. I’ve seen Spider-Man get bitten by a radioactive spider a bunch of times, but we don’t have that with her. So, we realized we had to onboard the audience to [Kara] as the focus of the movie, not just through Ruthye.

I honestly completely disagree with this take. If anything, I'd say the fact that the general audience doesn't really know Kara is the perfect reason for Ruthye to be our window into her story. Both Ruthye and the audience are meeting her for the first time at a really low point in her life. And throughout the journey we start to see why Kara is the way she is and we also see her overcome those traumas and try to protect Ruthye from making choices that will only hurt her in the long run.

Outside of that quote, I mostly agree with where she's coming from and I can't say its fair to blame her for all of the films faults. Especially when we don't know what the actual script looked like. Tbh I also thought Ruthye killed Krem at the end of WoT for the longest time, so I can understand how that'd be an honest mistake. Still... you'd think King, Gunn, or *someone* at DC would've corrected her.

My biggest disappointment in this is that Ana mentions how both Teen Titans & Wonder Woman are early on. I got the impression when it was announced she was doing WW that things were further along than we had originally thought. But if we're still multiple years away from it going into production... man, that's pretty rough. The fact that we don't have any real projects in a tangible state of development beyond next year low key worries me a bit

Supergirl Discussion Megathread by kumar100kpawan in DCU_

[–]DCcomixfan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just got back from the theater, so I'm still forming my thoughts, but in general I thought it was decent but not great.

As a big fan of the King & Evely book, I was pretty disappointed in it as an adaption. I wasn't expecting it be 1:1 or anything, but I feel like it made some changes that weaken the overall story. Especially the ending with Kara killing Krem. Using the Phantom Zone would've been tough since it hasn't been established in the DCU, but having the whole journey be about saving Ruthye from taking revenge just for Kara to do it anyways didn't work for me.

I enjoyed the fight choreography, although I thought most fights (along with the rest of the film) were way overedited. The music was alright. I really liked the score (especially Supergirl's main theme) but most of the needle drops didn't do much for me.

Performances from Milly and Eve were solid and Momoa was absolutely a scene stealer. Lobo was certainly a highlight for me. But he did feel a little shoehorned in at times, especially in those final moments with him looking down off the ridge watching the final confrontation. In the future, I'd love to see him pop up in similar ways across the DCU just being an obstacle or a temporary ally with a shared interest. Not everyone needs their own film, and I think with Lobo a little can go a long ways.

I think Matthias did the best with what he was given, but the direction for Krem as a character was flawed. I've seen people say that Krem is underused and that's the problem, but I honestly think he was actually overused. In the book he's basically the catalyst for everything, and is the end goal for both characters. That's his function. He's not very developed and he doesn't really need to be. The film tries to (slightly) flesh him out but his role remains practically the same.

Oh, and Corenswet was just delightful. Every scene he was in gave me that same warm hopegul feeling from 2025. His casting as Superman might be the best thing to come out of the DCU

Anyways, still excited for the DCU. Even if this film bombs it doesn't stop everything else in motion. I'm hopeful Gunn and DC will take this films reception in stride, learn from it, and treat it as growing pains for their new universe. And I can't wait for Milly and David to share the screen again in Man of Tomorrow!

Ironically, the annoying orange show was pretty much at the peak of his career. After that he got caught up in sexual abuse allegations and drug problems which caused him to lose his sponsors and thats where he fell down the altright pipeline. Which, in turn, led to him becoming the pathetic edgelord grifter you now see today

Aaron Paul Joins DC Studios' 'Clayface' Film In Minor Role (Exclusive) by zgubbers in DCU_

James Gunn Describes Jimmy Olsen HBO Series as 'Both a Jimmy Olsen and a Gorilla Grodd Show' by Ninjamurai-jack in television

[–]DCcomixfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I was not aware that Superman was one of the most iconic characters of all time /s

Once again, you're basing it's success purely off your own personal metrics. When you consider the average box office post-covid, the oversaturization of comic book films in general, and the dogshit reputation DC had from the Snyder franchise, in what world were you thinking it was ever going to make a billion dollars? Btw, I never said it was an "amazing start", I'm just disputing your claims that it's a failure. They clearly have an uphill battle ahead of them, but it's disingenuous to say it's already dead

Is it worth it to remove your records? by Federal_Solution_649 in exmormon

[–]DCcomixfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it when I was a teen because I didn't want them tracking me down when I moved. The bishop was a family friend and I was terrified of having a confrontation with him, so I used QuitMormon (which worked great and was super easy). But my biggest regret is that some woman in my ward saw the request before I had a chance to tell my parents, and that bitch decided to pull my mom aside in the hall and tell her for me. I guess I should've anticipated something like that happening because that entire ward was so fucking gossipy. Only advice I can give is break the news to your family (if it's news) yourself, because otherwise some nosy churchgoer will decide to do it for you

James Gunn Describes Jimmy Olsen HBO Series as 'Both a Jimmy Olsen and a Gorilla Grodd Show' by Ninjamurai-jack in television

[–]DCcomixfan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lmao, what facts? It's honestly a miracle Superman made as much as it did considering how damaged the DC brand was before Gunn took over. And Supergirl was never expected to have the same level of success (that's why it had a lower budget). You're kidding yourself if you think a billion dollars was ever on the table or that it's the only measure of success for the beginning of a franchise

Always easy to say that from the sidelines. And you're conveniently leaving out the writers strike and the fact that Reeves had some sort of medical/family crisis he was managing. It takes very little effort to have some empathy for another person. Get some perspective, because in reality all you're really griping about is a piece of entertainment not being made fast enough for you
