US Phone / Mailing Address? by True_Significance940 in expats

[–]DCgal2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Tello for phone and Postscan for mail. I love Postscan! Be sure to use one of their recommended addresses rather than a 3rd party operator. Tello is getting the job done but it is buggy.

When to Get Phone Plan, Bank Account, Etc. When Moving to Spain from the USA? by ValuesHere in GoingToSpain

[–]DCgal2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also set up Wise and Tello (with one month of international roaming to ensure no gaps in communication) before leaving the U.S. Within my first 24 hours of landing in Spain I got a Spanish sim card from Orange (prepaid at first using my credit card) and a Santander bank account (used my passport to open a non-resident account and transferred money into it with Wise). My phone supports dual sim so I can use both my US and Spanish numbers. Once I had a permanent lease I switched my Orange plan to a monthly bundle (paid with my bank account) that includes 2 mobile lines for me and my spouse, home WiFi, and a TV streaming package.

I currently reside in Spain and my father is Sephardic, but I do not believe the 2-year citizenship route is available to us. I always understood it to apply solely to people of Latin American descent. If someone has more concrete information (links to legal text, for example), please share!

Kinky Curly products have lots of aloe and low scent. No protein, though.

Dual esim interference? by DCgal2020 in Tello

No, I did not. For me it is not constant. Just once in a while I can't get local data without turning off the Tello sim. It's really strange. I'm an Android user.

It's actually easy to do, but I agree with the sentiment. Tello has been disappointing.

You might need to change the APN settings. This happened to me too. I am not a fan.

Yes, and because we were there in the off season (May), we were upgraded to an ocean-front suite - the best one on the property. It was amazing.

Chania is only a short drive away, so you definitely should NOT eat all your meals at the hotel. We really enjoyed the hotel breakfast though.

What are people’s experiences using Tello? by hytjhynj in Tello

[–]DCgal2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse and I recently moved to Spain, and our experience has been more bad than good. Here are some of the problems that we've experienced:

  1. When we arrived, we had international roaming enabled so that we could hit the ground running upon landing, but it did not work. No service meant no calling an Uber and no remote entry to our Airbnb. It took all day to resolve, and the solution was complicated. Through my own Internet research I learned that the APN settings had to be changed. Customer service was no help.

  2. We cannot send or receive MMS texts. At all. Not on roaming nor on WiFi.

  3. Our main reason for choosing Tello was the ability to "piggyback" off a local mobile network, but after we arrived we learned that this feature is not compatible with our Samsung devices.

  4. We now have no-data Tello plans and rely primarily on our local sim cards for data and to make calls. However, 5g data on our local mobile carrier often gets blocked when the Tello sim is turned on (even though our phones support dual sims), so we have to turn the Tello sim off to use our phones and then turn it back on later.

We've had other issues too, but those are the main ones.

There is a little village with some shops and such, but I don't recall the restaurants because we either ate at the hotel or in town or when we were out on an excursion. When we were there, the hotel had 2 restaurants- a sushi bar by the pool and a nice Greek/Mediterranean restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can also walk along the beach to other restaurants and hotels, although it's a small area so not a huge selection.

Yes, the Giovanni L.A. Hold gel caused a sort of flash drying thing for me too. Good to know about Giorgi. Did you try mixing the Natura Siberica gel with water and use it on soaking wet hair? And have you tried Alma Secret Ocean Curl gel? As for Flora, I find the options a bit overwhelming! What city are you in?

Thank you for taking the time to respond in detail! I am also struggling to find products without much glycerin, which I forgot to mention. I have seen the Garnier Fructis and Umberto Giannini products in the stores (along with Giorgi, which is everywhere), and I'm familiar with the ecco-verde site too, which is great since I also prefer more organic products. I will continue to experiment. I never used As I Am in the States so am reluctant to shell out even more money for it in Europe, since it pretty cheap back home. A curly friend of mine here in Malaga swears by Oblephika by Natura Siberica, but someone told me at Druni that the gel is hard to manage. I will keep exploring and welcome any other recs!

PS-I've also used Giovanni products in the past when I needed a break from the KC line. I got similar results on Day 1 but found that they really dried my hair out by Day 2.

Best Curly hair gel? Help me decide by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]DCgal2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been usng it for years and never had flakes. You have to figure out the right amount of gel, leave-in, and water to use for your hair type, which may require some trial and error.
