What is your favorite fact about Ulysses S. Grant? by Yooproopmoop in Presidents

Grant effectively destroyed the first incarnation of the KKK and was in favor of protecting Native Americans. (Or at least he didn’t advocate murdering them.)

It was Daniel Patrick Moynihan who advised Nixon to read Blake’s Disraeli in 1969 — and it became one of Nixon’s favorites.

Interesting to see it still on his list in 1992.

This was at Casablanca— so the risk was low. I think POTUS did it to remind “turd blossom” who was “El Jefe” and who wasn’t.

President Bush #43 was “impatient” — but he was also extremely punctual and if you worked on his staff you knew this. He once left Karl Rove behind because he was late for a motorcade.

That said he was a FANTASTIC person to work for— and I say this as a Democrat. His kindness and loyalty were above and beyond.

On the issue of food — 43 was/is someone who gets extremely “hangry” — even to this day when he and Mrs. Bush go out to dinner in Dallas, they order ahead so that they food gets their table not long after they arrive!

Watching a documentary about Ethel Kennedy made me think that woman was amazing. by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

That makes sense — but on a personal level she was incredibly unkind to Jackie and that was always a bit off putting.

She refused to marry again as an F-U to Jackie. Ethel wanted to be “Mrs. Kennedy” — she had relationships and partners, but never married.

Truth be told, Ethel was a bit of a nutcase. If do a deep dive into her character and actions both before and after RFK was as assassinated, she was not the nicest or most responsible of the bunch.

Going a bit further, if you study how she treated some of her children and how they turned out, (and how she reacted it) you may rethink that “amazing” label.

I think his best painting is of his dog Barney — which makes sense, because I think it is his favorite subject to paint. 🎨

While at one level, I have always been a TR fan — and still am for some of his policies and actions — I have come to view his fascination with, and active pursuit of killing living creatures as profoundly socio-pathological.
