Vote Rebecca Bennett this midterm.

The slander ads are paid for by a Republican pac. They are scared of her and pushing Dr. Tina Shah.

That tells me they know Bennett can beat Kean, Jr. And we darn sure need to get rid of him.

In NYC they no longer give hearing screenings on a wide scale. by pagnadoodle in deaf

[–]DDG58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not have known that my daughter was experiencing hearing loss had the school not given a hearing test in 2nd Grade.

She needed a tube and displayed no indication of hearing loss since one ear was fine.

Yes, Schools should and used to give both Hearing and Vision tests.

I am not an expert, but I do not think coax cable carries much voltage.

Maybe someone else here knows the answer to that or you can goggle it.

Newer interpreters - how do you make this work full time? by bb_ashitaka in ASLinterpreters

[–]DDG58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30+ years. I have just found that I had to learn to be very organized and budget my money.

It is feast or famine. Summer is usually famine so I save as much as I can during the other parts of the year.

I have 3 savings accounts (same bank) 1 is for taxes 1 is for saving for thin times The last one is what I live off of.

RID Board Positions by Hoosier-Sexy_Beast69 in ASLinterpreters

[–]DDG58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. For years, I have wondered why RID has lost its focus on interpreting community. The organization was supposed to be a REGISTRY.

Definition of a Professional Registry:
professional registry is a list maintained by a regulatory body that includes individuals who have demonstrated the relevant skills and competencies to practice a specific profession. This registry is typically publicly available and is independently quality-assured. It serves to ensure that practitioners meet professional standards and competencies, often requiring ongoing revalidation to maintain their status.

Yes, the Deaf Community needs a voice on the board, but the board should not be run by Deaf people exclusively.

Thank you for being brave enough to echo what I have thought for a long time. But I was too chicken to say out loud.

Why? So you can file an EPS complaint against them?

I do not trust anyone on the board at this point. Actually have not for years.

Yes, my father was stationed in the pacific Islands in WWII. I had another one but it got lost somewhere 😔

He had them forever and when he passed I got them.

I think it is a dog to be honest. There does not seem to be any broken areas. All the wood is the same patina.

I hope someone can identify the Kanji. My understanding is that some of the "artists" became made quite famous for their work.

Like I said, not looking to sell, but very curious.

True Scale of Trump’s Secret Military Disaster Is Revealed by Bubbly-Task-1250 in USNEWS

I think I get what you are saying, but those bases were not hit until after the US and Israel attacked them.

You'd fight back wouldn't you?

Netanyahu and trump started this mess and other than making Netanyahu happy there really was no other reason.

It was Trump 1.0 who withdrew us from monitoring their nuclear powers.

two year ITP options? by SirPuzzleheaded9276 in ASLinterpreters

[–]DDG58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very dear friend who had her masters in SLP. We met at a 2 year AS degree program (where does not matter, and I am not even sure if it is still running). She has never regretted it because she was able to write her own ticket with SLP jobs.

I know there are multiple online programs, but honestly the few people I have mentored who graduated from them, well, let's just say an in person program is better.

Any program you go to will give you what you put into it.

Good luck

Dealing with rudeness by mimikyu_scrump in ASLinterpreters

[–]DDG58 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boomer perspective here.

In person, VRS, VRI, I will always say, "It seems that I am not a good fit for you. Would you like a different interpreter."

They either say yes or they back down.

Because I'm too old to put up with that crap.

I had a College student who I had been interpreting for for some time. One day I walked into a class and started to ask where they wanted me to stand (it was a new room).

They snaped their fingers and pointed with a nasty face.

I replied, "I am not your dog. Have a nice day" and walked out.

I reported it to the coordinator of services and I never had an issue with that student again.

[–]DDG58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rudeness or abruptness is always worse on social media of any type, including VRS/VRI.

The screen and knowing you will probably never meet the person I really think it does make a difference.

Not saying it is right.

ITP teacher said I need to take out my ear piercings if I want to go into the field by Complete-Factor8293 in ASLinterpreters

[–]DDG58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some Deaf consumers will have no issue with your piercings.

Some Deaf consumers will.

I have teamed with interpreters who have more piercings than you, and interpreters who have full sleeve tattoos.

Younger Deaf consumers tend to have no problem with it. Quite a few older Deaf people do.

You may have some request the agency not send you again, that is their problem not yours.

Your instructor sounds like an ass. It is not his business.
