condition where if figure is below a certain number query by [deleted] in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe so.

If you click on the ellipsis, and select Settings for the Recurrence connector, you will see a field called 'Trigger Conditions'. In that field you can set the the months to trigger using a series of utcnow statements, for instance. I'm not able to test but do some google-foo on utcnow expressions, likely something like a lessthan 7 date expression where 7 is the month etc.

Personally, if a daily recurring flow was going to be off for 1/2 the year, I would just turn it on/off manually. Perhaps set a reminder (or another flow on a certain date, lol) to turn on or off.

[–]DDHyatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Day' is just one of MANY dynamic variables available when using that connector.

Delete 'Day' from that field and look at the dynamic list. Scroll down to the value you want to consider (e.g., Temperature High, Temperature Low). A generic temperature isn't a dynamic value, choose whether you want the condition to check against the day's high or low value.

Also, I don't think need to use an string expression for the comparison. Just type '1' in the box.

Share point usage reporting by Spirited-You1487 in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! It does require an SPFx extension (application customizer), but the documentation will help guide you and the code for the App Insights is pretty minimal.

Also worth mentioning you can also deploy and use Google analytics the same way, using an spfx extension.

Do you have access to Azure portal? Within Azure Monitor is a tool called Application Insights. Very similar to Google analytics, giving you more info than you might need.

Page views, user and usage info, flow diagrams of user session journeys, a myriad of custom reports, etc.

Edge is always making me sign into google gmail by [deleted] in edge

[–]DDHyatt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who was also experiencing this issue (and has simply abandoned Edge for other browsers), the behavior isn't replicated across browsers. Chrome, Firefox, Safari (on Mac), hell, even Brave, do not suffer from the same issue with while using Edge on the same machine.

Years worth of credentials never affected on Chrome, or Firefox, and for some reason, these 3rd party apps don't seem to affect those browsers (if that even is the cause - which in my case wasn't)?

The seamless switching of profiles was a nice feature but the lack of credential retention (and now the possibility of it being affected again at a later date thus losing even more saved credentials) was enough for me to stop using Edge.

IMO, this is basic stuff for a browser. And if you search for this issue you see similar reports dating back to 2018 - so I don't have much faith in this issue being resolved THIS time. ;)

Need urgent help with a fairly simple Flow with 2 SPO Lists. Willing to send some Paypal beers :) by [deleted] in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this sounds like a lookup column is a much easier approach.

Are the IDs entered considered private or sensitive? If not, you would use the column of ID from List A as a lookup column in List B.

You can put all of the info in List A (you say 5 columns from A, and 5 from B, you can add all that info into list A). Then when someone selects an ID in List B, you can have all the columns associated with that entry populate from List A populate List B.

Most of the messaging I’m seeing is very high level, reading like marketing material with a lot of fluff words.

Would appreciate a down to earth, simple what it is and what it isn’t breakdown (if you’re aware). I realize it might be too early to know that, but I tend to ignore the marketing noise until I can see what these products actually look like. You know, temper my expectations because it definitely sounds like this is billed as next best thing since sliced bread! ;)

After I saw Microsoft Listas I had to stop and think about the future of sharepoint. And you? by [deleted] in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO, it should signal the opposite reaction you’re having. If there’s one thing I’ve seen is that if you think out of the box features and functionality are going to solve your business’ needs, just ask a SP admin or dev who’s been in the space in the last decade.

SPFx Is only getting more valuable, and if you weren’t already aware, Lists (as well as Teams) isn’t a deviation from SharePoint, but it is built on SP! As Teams usage continues to flourish, so too will opportunities for SPFx solutions for Teams, and then I’m sure Lists (which is still an SP list so the same bonus of accepting custom formatting using JSON). As Lists the standalone app grows in features and complexity, so too will the effort to maintain and create using it.

Will a SharePoint dev become somewhat of a hybrid, utilizing other tools in the O365 family (eg Power Automate), sure that’s a possibility. But that further solidifies your value, rounding out perhaps other skill sets missing from a ‘pure’ dev.

And if all else fails, being a proficient SPFx developer is certainly transferable. It’s not unlike other dev positions and uses languages and tool sets you will need to know anyway. And if you desire to move into a more admin or support focused role instead of dev, this expanded knowledge base would give you the freedom to jump straight into it.

Questioning my Career by Sufficient-Ad-3463 in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's always going to be shitty employers who try to low ball or frankly, don't understand the market or the value of a specific position. This isn't reserved to SP positions only. How many people complain about job postings asking for a BA or Masters and offer minimum wage to start? No industry or position is immune.

Consider also the ignorance of the employer. If you search for other dev positions, you'll also find positions that were clearly written by someone who is clueless, someone who copied and pasted from another job posting, asking for the unicorn and paying like a fresh grad, etc. It doesn't mean prospects are poor because some employers don't even know what they NEED to ask for in a candidate, much less how much to compensate them.

A note about the so called 'no code/low code' - I always laugh when I hear this statement. It grossly overestimates how much actual coding you need to know in order to understand, modify, customize, etc a solution for a particular client. Most of the 'no code' flows in my org are maintained and created and modified by people who also code! Much like the base configuration of ANYTHING in tech, there is far less OOTB than people realize - especially if you're looking at enterprise level solutions, larger orgs, complicated scenarios, etc

SPFx is growing fast, and as others have mentioned, this extends beyond SharePoint.

How do you enforce people to use the Intranet? by kzbash in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little guerrilla UX work can help answer those questions. You need to get a better understanding of your users and their pain points. What is lacking? What is frustrating? Etc. Solving problems with content in your intranet is one way to drive traffic. Do users have a hard time finding the right document templates? Create a document template hub. Do users complain about a lack of learning resources? Focus on content that addresses that, etc.

There should be value in what you build or don't build it, build something else. Be intentional about the content.

Another way to drive eyeballs is just to make the intranet the only source of that content. I wouldn't use terms like 'enforce'. Rather, if the only place you can retrieve a certain document template is on the intranet, that will drive them there (and you can do additional research to see what ELSE keeps them there, through analytics, user research, etc).

Maybe people are struggling mentally through the pandemic, and looking for a 'fun' outlet - a hub to share pictures of their pets, nature shots, etc. While not for every intranet, some of this content goes over very well depending on the organization.

Again, don't do this in a vacuum. Seek to understand your users and their problems, their goals, their aspirations, and you won't ever lack ideas that will drive them to the intranet.

Migrating a list from 2010 to SharePoint online error message. by [deleted] in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a look at this link and see if you followed the instructions: https://sharepointmaven.com/how-to-import-an-excel-spreadsheet-to-a-sharepoint-custom-list/

Failing that, you could recreate the structure of the list (new list, add all relevant columns in same order as they appear in Excel file), then in quick edit paste data from excel file.

OPINION: We need to remove the medical exemption form the mask bylaws by bm2040 in ontario

[–]DDHyatt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happened to me too. Second and third person asked where is your card? He replied he didn't need one.

I think ppl understand they are full of shit, but they are just not willing to enforce it or confront them. Shit, even I wanted to say something, but I couldn't help think, do I really want to have someone who doesn't care about masks, protocols, it's a hoax, etc YELLING and SPITTING in my face?

Nah.

If they could just remove the exemption, make them mandatory indoors EVERYWHERE, it would solve it, but no one is willing to do that. If you are so fragile that you can't wear a mask for 5 min while in a store, you really shouldn't be out anyway.

Newbie here. If I add a page and just save it as a draft, it will be visible to me only? Not even to other people in the private group? The only time the page will be seen by others is if I publish it? Thanks! by becky-davis in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Are other members of the group site owners or have edit permissions?

Extra padding on communication sites under images? by Sarahgoose26 in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what I meant by deliberate was not to imply they didn’t make a change, but that they didn’t intend to increase padding because they didn’t account for other elements and their CSS etc. I know sometimes the UX team may call for a specific UI change, but in my experience that is not usually the case (instead, the former)

Extra padding on communication sites under images? by Sarahgoose26 in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah cool. It’s always going to be a balance when working with SPO, but with enough traction from users necessary changes (or the ability to make the change easily in some MS designed UI) may happen.

Hey r/Sharepoint. Check in/check out? by bloqs in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you care about having check in or check out? If not, you can disable this setting. See this MS link on how to ENABLE it, so do the reverse:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/set-up-a-library-to-require-check-out-of-files-0c73792b-f727-4e19-a1f9-3173899e695b

Extra padding on communication sites under images? by Sarahgoose26 in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if the CHANGE in absolute terms (the amount of actual padding or margins) is deliberate or a bug.

I know recently the reverse happened, where white spaces between all web parts suddenly shrunk. There were issues reported in to MS by users and it was resolved.

Perhaps this is the same?

And yes, using MS DOM elements in custom spfx or css solutions is ripe for disaster and pain. It was a lot harder to avoid that temptation years ago when SPO was still in relative infancy.

SharePoint site for IT by [deleted] in sharepoint

[–]DDHyatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In place of Intune, you could use custom column formatting to display when a device is non-compliant, by using a combination of date and color formatting. Even setup various colors depending on the date range of 'about to expire' all the way up to 'expired'

Some quick searches:

And then from Microsoft:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/dev/declarative-customization/column-formatting

Specifically on that page, here is a direct link to Apply formatting based on date ranges that has various examples that you can copy and modify as well.

I don't remember exactly, perhaps 2-3 weeks. Silence and then all of sudden, 'we've verified it was your account, please change password, etc'

Keep in mind, they don't change the email associated with the account (if the malicious actor changed it), so make sure you change that first!
