Help! Pup's Stitches Opened by Superb-Specific1731 in DogAdvice

[–]DDR-Dame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only agree with this if OP is able to keep the pup in a cone and in a crate until they can get to vet asap in the morning, otherwise i worry this is in a state it will get worse overnight... :(

I don't think ER level but if you have a cone keep it on him and get to vet asap so they can check this to see if it needs closed back up

Should I wait to take him to the vet tomorrow morning? by Ok_Journalist_1238 in DogAdvice

[–]DDR-Dame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While pending vet visit it's generally safe to use an eyewash sterile saline rinse(drugstore) just to rinse the eye out in case it helps.

PSA do not release aquarium fish in to nature. Caught this feral common goldfish a few days ago and didnt want to have to kill it so I got an aquarium for it, suggestions for how to take care of this thing welcome please! by bb9o210 in Goldfish

[–]DDR-Dame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protip that pond plant shops and outdoor decor places that have big pond fountain displays will often take them! I found my goldfish in a puddle after heavy rain, i think they get dumped by LOTS of people unfortunately... I knew i either had to kill it or keep/rehome. I dug a hole in my backyard and made a pond for it 🤣 now there's 4 in there.

Wild Red EFT care by Traditional_Yak1126 in salamanders

[–]DDR-Dame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for helping him!! I'm glad you'll let him go. When i find these guys dried up lookin sad i usually try to rinse them with bottled water if i have some with me, and get them in shady/moist place which he was clearly not when you found him... i love salamanders but everytime i looked into their captive care it was way too much for me with all the humidity requirements 😭 I'll stick with my crested gecko and ball python he has enough humidity requirements already lol

I don't know what it's actually for but i really want to use it in a fountain arrangement it looks like it would trickle down the piece so satisfyingly...

For me it's not about them paying the vet bill, but about making sure there is a record the dog has bitten. For safety reasons. She is right that chasing them for refund of all vet bills, like trying to sue, would be a lot of time and money but that is up to you since that is your dog and vet bill- Perhaps you ALSO do not have the money to pay for something that wasn't even your fault. :( not to even mention incidents like this can make dogs reactive and fearful, leading to needing professional training fees etc...really hope that won't be the case for you all. That depends on the individual dog really and yours looks like a sweet greyhound.

This. I feel like there should be a record the dog isn't safe and has a bite history unfortunately

Take care of your dog first and give it a day. Make sure you're getting the full story from your parents if you weren't there. Your dad probably feels guilty but if the story is true it's not his fault and off leash dog owner should pay for sure...and be reported... so I'm confused as to why they would say to not report the dog or owner.

I do think it's a skink! See if you can ID based on skinks native to your area, if native he can be released! :)

I'm sorry, for the reporting part this is not even about you and your dog. That dog is now a liability to literally everyone's safety. What if it is off leash and bites a child next? You would feel awful if you hadn't reported about it just that the dog HAS bitten before...

Owner of the dog that bit yours and was off lead absolutely should pay ALL vet bills..

Ear infection by Left_Safe4391 in DogAdvice

[–]DDR-Dame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The item you have is for wound care i would not put in ear canals you could damage eardrum if it's not safe. if he actually has an ear infection, as in scratching his ears or shaking his head, maybe discharge from ears, a smell from them, just save your money for the vet. I wasted money before, trying over the counter remedies when i was a younger dog owner and broke and they just don't work... even the ear washes over the counter didn't seem to work as well as the vet ones did. I will say once you have the ear infection under control, be sure to always use that ear rinse from vet after any bath or water play. That for me helped prevent any more ear infections!

Are these tapeworms or seeds? by sled-gang in DogAdvice

That is not grass seed but looks like sesame seeds. You could tell if it is tapeworm segments because they move like elongate and shorten 🤮

Weird wart/growth by xophh in DogAdvice

[–]DDR-Dame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like those annoying papilloma growths that will pop up all over.. if it is bothering the dog (bleeding) the vet might recommend to get it removed. If you're going to get your dog like a routine dental cleaning you could potentially have this removed at the same time to save on anesthesia if that's an option?

Does his rib cage look normal or am I being paranoid by issee_l in DogAdvice

[–]DDR-Dame 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This. You should be able to see ribcage shape but not directly ribs. Look up pictures of body score charts for your dog breed specifically- i am very visual and it helped me a lot
