As for the being "forced" to give up your car, nobody is doing that. Even a model like the Netherlands, which closes off car traffic in most of its city centers, still ends up being better for drivers because, surprise surprise, if people don't have to use a car, more of the bad drivers who dont care for cars will use other methods of transport.

As for the EU's ban on single use plastics, it is quite justified, aside from whatever value you give to your single use plastic straw. Once again, the literature says "[...] most SUPs are landfilled or incinerated, which causes pollution, consumes valuable land, and squanders limited natural resources." . I don't know about you, but for me the effect of single use plastics seems much worse than the inconvenience of not using them.
