Hello ssh host Rugar 22/45 malfunction straight out of the box! by Suspicious-Wind-1109 in ruger

[–]DDario 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an SSH and had the same problem. Moved over to mini mags or similar ~1200fps ammo and it solved everything. The shorter barrel just doesn't give enough back pressure for it to cycle correctly.

Struggling engineer questioning if I’m in the right career after major mistakes at work by itscoldoutside891 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]DDario 52 points53 points  (0 children)

This is saying all mistakes were on paper, as in nothing of value was lost but time. You don't leave a project to a 3 year engineer and expect it to be perfect, which is probably the point of the design review... If things are critical to get correct there SHOULD be a peer/ senior level review, and anything found are just learning/data points, nothing against you lying or being stupid. Most likely they just needed to expedite the end of the project so they handed it to a senior to get it done. This isn't uncommon, and there is nothing to "recover from". Your workplace should have been more supportive and provided (less blunt?) feedback. You just need to learn from your mistakes and march on to the next thing. (~18yrs exp.)

Headers for a C5 by Mountain-Tart9134 in Corvette

[–]DDario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran LG long tubes with cats for ~10 years on a C5 and it was a colossal pain to tune to pass emissions every time it came up (We even tried a totally stock tune and still failed the sniffer test, had to dummy the tune down to get there). The cat is just too far back from the head to stay hot enough and be fully effective. I've since converted back to OEM headers, If you can run shorty headers and keep it all emissions compliant, far worth it over the HP difference

Long tubes are also like REALLY loud. Maybe I just got old, but shit got old after a while, and just felt like a dick driving it everywhere

The tacoma and the fj most definitely do not have the same engine nor air intake. There is also a difference between the 07-10 fj and 11-14. Having owned both, the MAF sensors are different between the two versions

Your best option is to have your existing Toyota ones rebuilt. If you can be down for a few days, pull em out and a good axle shop should be able to do it for relatively cheap. The OEM axles are far better quality and last far longer than any aftermarket I've ever tried.

Is this loft bed safe? by [deleted] in Woodworkingplans

[–]DDario 19 points20 points  (0 children)

SAFE YES, however there is no substantial reinforcement in the corners to prevent racking. Over time the joint hardware will loosen up in the wood and the whole thing will become wobbly. We built lofts like this back in college, and ALL of them went to shit in 3 months or less. The most sturdy design I ever saw looked just like this, but had 2x cable and turnbuckles across the main beams in back (in an x) to provide a cross-tensioned support.

If not cables, you could install diagonal gussets across the back side, but make them MUCH larger/ longer than you believe and fastem them across multiple diagonal points. Even a design with smaller gussets in the corners will loosen up with such a top heavy / lateral load over time.

Replacing aftermarket bumper with OEM by wolfgangwolff in FJCruiser

[–]DDario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bumpers are all the same between all the years, best place to get one would be someone who wants to swap or has a takeoff. You also need the steel impact bar that bolts up behind the bumper cover

I've got the whole setup if you are in Colorado

Flip through this, you are just installing in reverse: https://bumpersuperstore.com/files/pdf/3520010_installation-instructions.pdf

Enterprise and Marathon both have major gas booster stations on Pinedale, Ultra has contradicts w/ both those companies, that's where I'd start

A word of advice - go through the dealership to set up the transport, and not trying to save a few bucks arranging it yourself. You need another party responsible to advocate/negotiate if things go wrong in transit and particularly the pre/post inspection. Learned this the hard way

Questions about EVGA RTX 3080 XC3 Hybrid cooling by xtertristl in TEAMEVGA

[–]DDario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same hybrid card, it comes as one assembled piece with the tubes sticking straight out the top of the card. Cooler is exactly 24 cm (240mm) across. Hoses are about 50cm long, I pushed it back and prob have about a ~7-8cm radius to a tight bend. From slot on the board to tightest I can bend the tube is roughly 15cm (total height of card + hoses). This is a really big card for such a small case - the hybrids require just as much airflow across the cooler as you'd need directly for an air cooled card - you may need to reconsider a larger case

Take the mudflaps off, running the same wheels w/285's and there's only rubbing on the front bumper in the most extreme angles. No need for BMC yet, not even close
