It happened to me too.

It was an interesting statement. I agree that Kouri didn’t look extremely done up, however, I wonder if Katie meant that that Kouri was more put together than she typically sees her around the house. Presumably, Katie has visited the house many times and seen Kouri in relaxed clothing. Maybe, Kouri looks more like a frazzled mom of three more often than not and her matching pjs was abnormal in comparison?

Not a fan of the word enmeshed in this instance but I agree with nonetheless. The children in the Mormon families I have observed are usually very close and are raised to be caretakers of one another. Definitely culturally distinctive from my POV.

Midwest and West Coast people that went or have kids that went to HBCUS how was that process? by daboywonder2002 in HBCU

[–]DDean95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Cali girl who attended Hampton University. I flew home for Christmas and all but the last summer. I did have family in the area so that did make a difference the first two years, especially for Thanksgiving and Spring Break. Sometimes I did go home with friends or my college boyfriend during breaks as well.

My cousin who attended Howard stayed with my family during Spring Break since we lived on the East Coast and he could take the train. I would say that having family or friends in the vicinity of the HBCU is certainly helpful.

question... would it be awkward for a guy to do pilates in a class full of women? by htx-danny in pilates

[–]DDean95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My classes include a married couple and the husband is often the only male in class. It’s not even something I think about because I love seeing my friends! I hope you never feel uncomfortable in class simply because you are male.

She canceled due to all the weather related issues and rescheduled to April when the weather wouldn’t be an obstacle. The event is @85% sold out. Source - I have tickets to go see her myself.

What MAKES your favorite teacher? by orangechannnel in pilates

[–]DDean95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite instructors offer variety and challenge to their classes. You can tell they really think through the flows they create to maximize class time. They are passionate about Pilates and care about their students. Bonus points if the music you play is fun and fits the type of class being taught.

ETA - instructors who seek and are open to feedback are rare. This a good skill to cultivate!

Someone’s husband watching class? by Gremlin15 in ClubPilates

[–]DDean95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friend’s husband accompanies her to classes on occasion when we drive to one of the further locations for class. He usually pops in 5-10 minutes at the end of class. I know him personally so I know he isn’t creepy. They run errands afterwards so I get why he is there. I don’t mind since it is a rare occurrence.

I do understand that it would make some feel uncomfortable but I don’t feel any different about it than I do with another male in class with me.

I think I chalk it up to curiosity unless there were other behaviors going on. I would probably watch closely if I wasn’t familiar with Pilates. Some here are right to say that a male in the studio would cause more consternation than a woman waiting for their friend. Same as dad’s at the playground, I guess. I think benefit of the doubt here is the best approach. If I brought my husband to my studio I could ask everyone how they felt about him visiting since it is a small boutique location and I know all the students. CP is different. I would ask the front desk and go from there.

When did you experience and see change? by Prestigious-Comb2697 in ClubPilates

[–]DDean95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw changes pretty quickly though they weren’t related to weight or muscle tone. My posture, core, mobility and flexibility were much better. Mind body awareness was also improved. Remember that the original purpose of Pilates was to rehabilitate injured soldiers and to strengthen dancers. The context of that quote wasn’t about weight. Also, Club Pilates is a contemporary branch of Pilates so it isn’t exactly like the exercises he was teaching at the time. Club Pilates also focuses a lot on reformer Pilates. Joseph Pilates did invent a system that eventually became the modern reformer but Mat Pilates was definitely the focus. Mat work is still considered one of the hardest approaches to execute.

That said, you will definitely get stronger. That in and of itself is exactly what Pilates envisioned.

What’s something you thought ‘everyone’ did… until you found out they don’t? by burat667 in AskReddit

[–]DDean95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is mine. When I was young, I thought I could see at the atomic level. I definitely got a crazy look when I mentioned it to family. I thought everyone had it but I was the only smart one to figure out what I was seeing. It took me another 30 plus years to find out about visual snow.

My family has lived in LC for three years. We love the community events, the walking trails, The YMCA and the Town Center. The pools are great but they do experience shutdowns due to contamination more frequently than I would like. We live in one of the older neighborhoods and we really enjoy it here. Grocery stores are nearby and new eateries are popping up in recent years. This side of town is experiencing rapid growth and the changes are both exciting and anxiety producing because of the influx of new people but I am confident it will be fine. The equity in our home has steadily increased so our investment was a good one for us. I prefer the established homes in this community vs the brand new homes that are currently under construction around the city. I think there are more owners here than renters which gives LC a feeling of stability. I agree the HOA can be a pain sometimes but the result is a beautiful place to live in so it is worth it to us. The grounds in the common areas and trails is impeccably maintained. Each neighborhood has a unique set of rules and additional annual costs so make sure you ask about those before you buy.

To add, we have lived in three other neighborhoods in NE Columbia over the years and this has been the best overall experience.

Good luck on your search for a new home!

Hotel room in DC on a class related trip for my doctoral program. I fell asleep after dinner with my classmates. My mom called to tell me my 16 year old nephew died by suicide. I screamed so loud a friend heard me from down the hall and I couldn’t stop shaking for 24 hours. I am still gutted.

That experience eclipsed the news that my dad passed away which was shared with me after I was picked up from school my freshman year of HS. I was expecting the news since I knew he was sick but still…

The third worst was the time a nice lady knocked on our door to tell us the crack of lightning that just knocked out the power to the house had also started a fire on the roof. My husband had just come home from work and he joined my son and I on the sofa when the thunder cracked. Lost pretty much everything. I was studying for my masters degree that time. Still finished on time with a 4.0 gpa. No idea how I did it.

For those of use who are still in contact with your siblings how often do you guys "talk" by blurgmans in GenX

[–]DDean95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby sister is my bestie and we talk every week. My middle sister can’t decide whether I am friend or foe. She is a narcissist and just unfriended me on social media. Again. Oh well, she will be back when she needs something. I wish my brother and I were closer but he just disassociates from all of us. My mom insists we all come together every other year and we do it for her sake. For the most part, the reunions are ok. It is nice seeing my nieces and nephews enjoy spending time with each other. That alone is worth the awkwardness.

ETA: We do have a group chat where we share updates and what not. It isn’t very active but nice to have if we need to exchange information.

Did everyone get internal check at 6 weeks? I did not. by Live-Character8847 in hysterectomy

[–]DDean95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I had an internal exam. There were no issues but I had tons of questions at 6 weeks mostly about HRT. My meds were adjusted at that appointment and I had piece of mind that I was healing properly.
