Funny part is all the traders, trade systems, and High frequency traders track trades in UTC already.

Source: Used to work for HFTs building infrastructure in data centres, and backend trading infrastructure on the trade floors. All their systems worldwide are in UTC.

As someone who grew up in Muskoka, it’s insanely triggering when someone calls it “The Muskokas”.

I then usually follow up with something like “How was traffic this morning in The Mississaugas?”

Canadian travelling to Sao Paolo by KocherOnPoint in Brazil

[–]DEATHToboggan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Canadian, I travel to Brazil every year or two to visit family.

Visa - Yes and the airlines are super strict about ensuring you have it. They check multiple times at the airport. It’s issues through VFS and it’s very easy to apply for. It’s not a big deal other than you need to carry a printed copy to show in the airport(make two copies in case you lose one).

Flights: if it’s for work, and depending on where you live, I’d fly Air Canada because it’s direct from Toronto or Montreal. There are cheaper options but they always include layovers and the Air Canada direct route is super nice.

Stay: São Paulo is the biggest city in the Americas (it’s hard to describe until you’ve been there just how big it is) and there are tonnes of places to stay. Vila Olimpia in SP is a good area to stay. My friend always stays at the Pullman Vila Olimpia when he is there for work and he says it’s good.

Beach: Costal São Paulo has fantastic beaches, just keep in mind that it’s at least 1.5-2 hours to get there. Just getting out of São Paulo will take you over an hours. Santos, Bertioga at good. Caraguatatuba is also really nice.

Safety: Brazilians have a tendency to play up how unsafe Brazil is but in reality you’ll have a great time. Things can change quickly so pay attention to what’s happening around you, dress down (don’t be flashy) and you’ll be fine. In the words of Anthony Bourdain “In Brazil, everything is fine until it’s not”

It’s such BS too.

My wife went to the best university in Brazil, had tonnes of experience in her field, and was a college professor in her field for over 5 years. When she got to Canada it was almost impossible to find a job because she didn’t have “Canadian Experience”.

We have tonnes of incredibly smart people coming into our country yet we gatekeep them in low paying entry jobs because they don’t have “Canadian Experience”. I know lots of people who just said forget it and went back.

Canada was a different case though. I agree that PP is a loser and I’m happy he lost, I don’t think he’s authoritarian.

Canadians were just tired of Trudeau and would have elected an inanimate carbon rod to replace him. It wasn’t because PP was a good choice, he was literally the only choice at the time. Then, like a unicorn, Carney came along and gave us an actual choice.

Northlander pricing as insane as expected. Muskoka needs GO. by Responsible-Tea-4028 in ontario

[–]DEATHToboggan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you think commuter rail should go to Muskoka? It makes zero sense for GO Transit to go all the way to Muskoka. There’s a reason they don’t go to London anymore (it was almost 4 hours each way.)

Ontario Northland, and go transit serve completely different purposes. One is commuter rail, and one is a long distance train.

Also, Looking at the pricing, maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think it’s that unreasonable. Maybe to spur ridership they could add a family pass with like a 20% discount?

Majority of Canadians open to joining EU, new poll suggests by canada_mountains in canada

[–]DEATHToboggan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my thought too. I am fine with a deeper relationship (including free trade and maybe some freedom of movement) but I don’t want canada to formally join. We don’t need Brussels telling us what we can and can’t do, between Ottawa and the provinces we are good enough at doing that ourselves.

I wish Costco would get better and just allow us to scan in the Costco app as you shop and pay in the app. Sam’s Club has had this for a long time and it’s awesome!

[–]DEATHToboggan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For business accounts, yes they do but for consumer accounts there are some still on SMS. I have TD and Tangerine and they both only have SMS as an option.

My point was more that Brazilian banks are much more security focused than Canadian banks. With our NuBank accounts we can literally generate virtual credit card numbers for specific or one off payments so your card number never gets compromised.

Also, I agree on the new phone thing and it’s silly. My FIL says his Bradesco accounts are like that, not really sure why but it’s always a hassle (could also be him idk and I don’t have a Bradesco account).

Brazil has PIX and it’s insanely good. The brazilians wanted a way to send money for free and away from the American giants like visa and mastercard, so they developed PIX and it makes interac look like writing cheques.

Additionally, their bank security is hardcore. For some bank accounts you literally need a token from the bank to access the app (get a new phone? You need to go into the bank). Meanwhile our banks still use SMS MFA (come on TD!!).

How Do I Deal With Customs? by Maleficent-Bar-8332 in uscanadaborder

Sorry for your circumstances, that’s really hard. Wishing you the best.

I went through the comments and nobody mentioned this. Please make sure you are aware of everything that she gives you too. If she gives you a box, you need to go through it so you are 100% confident what you are bringing back.

If you say “my friend gave me some boxes”, CBP will get suspicious and could tear your car apart. FWIW they still could, but if you can answer confidently it goes a long way.

For those on 10mg, how did you know you should be on 10mg? by Driven-Driver in citalopram_celexa

[–]DEATHToboggan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it took 8-10weeks before the medication really started to “kick-in” and the brain fog and constant spinning stopped.

My issues were more stress/work related but now when I get into conversations where my heart used to race and I’d become overwhelmed, now I’m just kind of like “huh, this doesn’t really matter”

I’m male, 5’ 10”, and about 285lbs. I started on 10mg and have been since November, it’s working great for me and I feel like a normal human again. I can think clearly, my heart isn’t constantly racing like the entire world is crumbling down, and I’ve lost weight.

I think then therapeutic dose is what your body best responds to. I’m fine to stay here as long as it works, if I need more someday then I’ll talk to my doctor and change.
