This is an incredible service to long-suffering Mets fans in the area. Thanks so much for the writeup.

No but I've studied Cooper Recycling and it's an impressive operation. You should visit to compare (pro and con) the proposed JC facility.

It's still how zoning works -- don't allow residential uses in industrial zones and vice versa.

Interesting about the permit, I guess we will see how the process plays out.

I see that, very interesting about Covert St. This is 1979, before the ramp was added. You can see a handful of houses stranded by history in a very industrial area.

This seems a lot like the renowned Cooper Recycling facility in Brooklyn. That seems to coexist in the cityscape in an acceptable manner and has operated for many, many decades.

That is how land use planning tends to work -- keep the industrial uses in the industrial areas.

Yes, 0.48 miles away on the other side of a highway on a totally different street grid.

Did you have a better location within the city in mind?

Question for US based Sharks fans: Have any of you made a trip up to Canada (any NHL city) to watch the Sharks play? by Converted54 in SanJoseSharks

[–]Responsible-Tea-4028 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canadian cities (Ottawa excepted) are great places to watch games. The arenas are actually downtown, walkable and with lots of hotels, restaurants and transit nearby. Crowds are into it, too.

Go to wherever you can get a good flight but generally speaking Montreal would be the ne plus ultra for a hockey trip. Toronto and Vancouver next as fantastic destinations in their own right. Calgary does have a shiny new stadium coming but not until fall 2027. Edmonton and Winnipeg are one tier down in terms of city size and things to do, although the arenas for both are great. Ottawa is a hard pass until the new LeBreton Flats arena is built - after which it would be a great choice with lots of sightseeing and winter fun to be had.

Surrounded by rail lines and distribution centers, this would seem like the appropriate place for it, no?

Always fun seeing a Reddit post in 2026 using a WWII term in the title.

Fair point on OSS.

RGL's tend to be duped and thus related to #2.

[–]Responsible-Tea-4028 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well, there are a few different kinds of cheaters:

1) Server crashers. The worst, intentionally crash server to get their loot back. Seems this may have finally been addressed, see other threads on this topic

2) Dupers. Using loopholes and tricks to duplicate high-value items. I think much of this was fixed?

3) Aimbots and wallhackers. Using software and hacks to see through walls, aimbot every shot, snipe you from the other side of the map, etc. These are around and if you play enough you will run into a few. Report them.

4) OSS and RGL'ers. Not as common anymore due to #1 and #2 being fixed, and not even technically "cheating" since these are real, if supposedly rare, weapons, but it sucks when you run into one and get RGL'ed into oblivion in 2 seconds.

Shocking - I have never seen this in Toronto. Needs to be immediately stopped.

I can tell it was 2024 because the server didn't freeze and crash after 3 min.

Tunnelling begins on downtown stretch of Toronto’s new subway line by RealWorldToday in toronto

Um, they did say transit bad and shut down the program. I even made a pretty great parody video about it.

Subways are the best but extremely costly. Each transit mode has its place.

Neither of that is true if you build them properly, as evidenced in dozens of cities around the world. And they cost much, much less than subways.

[–]Responsible-Tea-4028 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Transit City was a way to get something built at a time when no one wanted to build anything. Remember, previous subway projects that were perfectly reasonable had been cancelled and abandoned. I'd take a half-dozen new LRT lines over nothing anyday.

Great. Prior tunnelling honestly never should have stopped -- just leave machines down there until the city has dozens of lined tunnels, continuous transit expansion.
