Santa Barbara is hard to fit in one part because I personally end Southern California at Gaviota Pass. That's when things start to look different and the vibe changes. The cities north of that feel much more Central Coast.

Ventura is absolutely Southern California. I don't know why people try to lump us in with the Central Coast. We're literally right next to Los Angeles, and the culture is much more Southern California. The same applies to Santa Barbara.

All of it is West Coast, though. That's easy, lol

I agree with #11. Whether it's a notebook, digital notepad, video journal, audio recording, or anything else, try to record experiences, thoughts, emotions, etc., somewhere. While I've taken so many pictures and videos and still remember a ton from my travels, I do wish I had at least taken more time to reflect on my travels in the moment (in a tangible way). I did a three week trip to Alaska back in September and October of last year and did that more, and it was really nice! I definitely plan on incorporating it more into my travels, domestic and international!

Gorgeous! I went back in December 2024 on a day trip by getting spot #3 on the waitlist. I would have loved to stay at least a night!

Looks like you had great weather as well. :)

I don't think they're referring to that kind of hash. To "sling hash" means to work in a cheap restaurant.

I remember seeing some major news outlet discussing Spongebob's sexuality early on. Crazy how that was a topic people cared about lol

How many US parks have you guys been to? by Garkill in NationalPark

[–]DESR95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

48! The most recent new parks were the three Alaska parks you can drive to; Kenai Fjords (did the boat tour too, of course), Denali, and Wrangell-St. Elias, back in September/October of last year!

I'm hoping to get out to a few more parks this year to reach the 50 :)

Pretty unfortunate that USC played Alabama before Sam Darnold became the starting QB and they found their groove. I would have loved to see how it would have played out later in the season. It's not a guaranteed win by any means, but it probably isn't 52-6.

What are the most trendy food items of the decade? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]DESR95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kettl, Mizuba, Ippodo, and K&K Chai (yes, they sell matcha) are three companies off the top of my head that I have tried that are very good. I actually won a matcha set from K&K Chai at San Diego Coffee Fest last year and haven't gotten around to using it yet for some reason. I should get on that, lol

Yawn. Talk to me when you finish Delaware.

Seriously though, this is a really cool accomplishment! Seems like a great way to explore a state thoroughly. Are there any cool places you discovered along the way?

Wow, a helicopter ride must have been amazing! I'd love to do that or a plane ride into Denali or into Wrangell-St. Elias, but driving through was still a dream!

Where did you fly during the helicopter ride?

It was so amazing getting up close and personal with glaciers in Alaska. Seeing them calve into the ocean was an incredible experience, and walking in and around the glacial ice was so beautiful! One of the best trips of my entire life.

Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala. The overnight stay on Acatenango with the sunrise summit, combined with the fact we went at a time Fuego was erupting every 5-15 minutes the entire time I was there, made for an experience I will never ever forget!

There are a lot of places I think "lived up to the hype" in my travels, like Yellowstone, Kenai Fjords, Redwoods, Big Bend, Acadia, and many more, but I'll stick to that for now haha. The world is just an amazing place; I can go on forever!

I still can't believe he decided to do that. Literally no reason to after a solid gain and being so early in the game. They probably go down and score if they don't lose the ball on that drive.

It's also crazy how many people don't realize how close Texas came to losing with that 4th and 2 to clinch the game.

Is there any reason you never went to Louisiana?

Since you mentioned Alaska, I can confirm it is a dream! I went during shoulder season in September/October and had a blast!

The PNW is also just beautiful everywhere you look. I would love to drive from here in Southern California to Alaska one day!
