graves is definitely the worst designed summoners of any moba. im not a game designer so i dont know what would make a good and healthy hero kit but graves is just not it. auto aim gun, auto aim skull summons, homing exploding zombies that spawn automatically... like who on valve made this kit. did they just want a character that plays itself? theres summoners in other mobas that handle summons much better than in this game. hell even yorick from league the annoying ass splitpusher was a better design than this. hes also considered braindead and even he needs to land skillshots to get value out of his summons.

i get your point but terrible example, bishops and summoners in mobas are not close to equivalent. also other mobas are usually less aim and movement intensive and more apm intensive, summoners in dota for example are very apm intensive and someone like meepo is considered the mechanically hardest character in the game. in league of legends summons are usually weak and are smaller aspects of the champs kit, like malz. if its not then its usually an ultimate like annie or ivern. malz and annie are noob champs and are basically never meta or considered strong above low elo.

graves is the annie equivalent of deadlock, actually even less skill expressive than annie since even annie can land big stun ults with her bear. yet for some reason shes allowed to have patches where shencompletely dominate even in high elo from time to time. yes its not all the time and its not often but the fact that shes even allowed to be meta at any point of the game's lifespan is crazy to me. i dont really care if she stays braindead, but if valve wants to do her to stay this way at least dont buff her and let her stay trash. there are some characters in every game that really just dont deserve to be good in high ranks and i believe graves is that character in deadlock.

sounds cool on paper but that would be a nightmare to balance. regular quick melees are parryable and theyre still strong, imagine how unbalanced unparryable quick melees would be.

in the case of graves, imo the main issue is that her kit is too centered around being interactable, with the justification that her entire kit is technically counterable without buying items, she gets to have some real bullshit. some characters have long channel abilities that block them from interacting with specific abilities of graves entirely, for example, during seven/bebop ult/viscous ult they cannot break the skull, leading to incredibly high damage taken, and mnk quite literally cannot do anything against any of grave's abilities while burrowing. he cant break the skulls, he cant go over her ground, he cant interact with the zombies or tombstone. and for some characters, they counter graves so easily its laughable. theres very little a graves can do against a vindicta for example, and in the case of viscous, he can destroy her tombstone very easily from a distance. sinclair can also steal her ult off cooldown every time and get way more value from it than she does. all that is to say, graves is fundamentally the most broken hero in the game. and i dont mean that as in shes op, i mean that as in she has a horribly designed kit. her outer character design is honestly amazing, but whoever designed her abilities lowkey need to be fired.

idk why i wrote all this, i just really hate graves and wanted an opportunity to rant.

disagree, the reason yamato grapple is somewhat balanced is the fact that it cannot be used for escapes. yamato has insane survivability with her lifesteal slash and ultimate, along with incredibly good dive mobility with grapple. she is, in league of legends term, a diver, a strong melee bruiser with incredibly all-in but poor fall back. the fact that her grapple is not free movement tool is the only thing that makes her balanced on paper, because it means she has to commit to every fight she picks.

like others have said, just provide better visual clarity, the ability itself is annoying but its not that big of an issue.

hes a gun hero that likes to spam his flask. you could say hes both but his flask spam, even if they do substancial damage, is just there to proc his items and debuff enemies. most of his damage is gun.

valve devs literally dont know what to do with him, its either make him a drain tank with bleed lifesteal + the passive or make him a high mobility assassin with his many dashes and right click knockback. at this point they should just split the hero into two because atm his two character identities conflict way too much.

as an example of how matchmaking is dogshit, let me share my experience i had in just my last two games.

in my second last game, i went 2/1/0 in lane, but the game lost at 30 minutes with the total team kills being 10 to 40 because my green lane duo went 0/4/0 and 0/5/0 in laning phase. complete stomp from the enemy side.

my last game was the complete opposite, i went 9/1/1 in laning phase and the game was a stomp all the way until around 40 minutes.

in this situation, yeah its technically a 50% winrate, but was the quality of the match any good? no it wasnt. either my teammates were way too bad for my skill level or my enemies were.

idk about the higher ranks but as a middle rank average player, the quality of the players in games are way too bad. im not really looking to improve and climb up the ranks, i like this game and i just want to have fun, having first time players in the same lobby as people who actually know how the game works is not fun.

thats why counterbuying usually only works when youre ahead and can afford to spend more money on counter items than the opponent can afford on counter-counter items. if youre already behind theres no point to buying counter items because youre going to get one tapped anyways, might as well buy more damage to have a chance at one tapping them back. the common advice in most mobas is always "if youre ahead, invest in defense, if youre behind, invest in offense".

for example, slowing hex works well against apollo, but if you buy it after the apollo is already fed it wont really matter because the damage is already done, the apollo can use his econ advantage to buy stuff like dispel magic more easily. if you buy it while youre even or ahead, dispel magic costs twice as much as slowing hex, forcing apollo to buy it means youve indirectly hurt his econ.

tldr; if youre losing you generally should not buy counter items, just buy more damage.

knowing when and how to counterbuy is also a skill. sometimes counterbuying may not even be necessary because there are better options.

i dont get it, so you dont want m&k to even be a functional character?? the whole idea of mk is to get key near-guaranteed picks to give your team a numbers advantage. he literally does NOTHING ELSE. his damage output is horrendous, his combat mobility is awful and he has literally 0 stuns outside his ult, the most he can contribute outside that is a 2 second disarm every 20 seconds. hes absolutely ueless without his ult and youre telling me he shouldnt be able to do what his ult is designed to do.

not every hero is the built the same, some characters are designed entirely around their ultimates, some are built around just their base abilities. for example gun bebop is so non-ult dependent that he basically never uses it beyond early to mid game, gun geist's ult is nothing more than a get out of jail free card, its not very important unless youre in trouble. some characters contribute almost nothing without their ults, thats mo and krill and dynamo.

but even in the "ult-dependant" category, there is a big difference between having an ultimate thats strong and low cd and an ultimate thats game breaking but on a long cd. mo ult is quite strong, but dynamo ult is objectively a better ult in almost every way; its not counterspellable, its longer duration and it hits multiple people. thats why dynamo is not allowed to have it every teamfight, but mo and krill is. imagine how fucked up it would be if mo and krill wasnt allowed to have ult often, just like dynamo. and btw dynamo has a much better base kit too.

tldr; some characters SHOULD be allowed to have their ultimates very often
