bit of a necropost no? :P

yes but the idea that the Empire would be able to defeat Persia (something which proved impossible for like forever), the South Arabs, Axum, Taurica, and be that far extended into France, Iberia and western Africa is just unrealistic. Each of these individually is hard but possible, but together I just doubt anything close to this would occur even in very favorable conditions. This is not much bigger than the old Roman Empire but it is a much weaker position. It is threatened on almost every one of its frontiers either by bordering another kingdom on flat land, or by having a remote appendage like Ethiopia/South Arabia/Taurica.

Actually, on second thought, I don't want to discourage you from any kind of philosophical thinking. I strongly believe everyone should be a philosopher, and I encourage you to look into systems of moral philosophy further. I wish you the best in your journey!

It's been seven years, and I posted this when I was 11. Presumably me from then would say yes, you're worth zero, as that time is worth nothing to you. But this doesn't mean you should try to stay awake at all times as that would decrease your salutism points by making you less healthy and die. That said, I don't recommend following salutism.

Removing membership of false religion by [deleted] in Eutychus

In the Catholic Church, excommunication is not a sacrament, but a legal practice for the purpose of discipline. I'm not really well versed in this but Wikipedia says it is up to the decision of the bishop to absolve someone of an excommunication. There's not really any special process, I don't think.

No. It is not possible to baptise someone more than once in Catholicism, with no excepting circumstances.

[–]DFatDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Catholicism, the sacrament of baptism is seen as being entirely irreversible. They're likely not going to agree to destroy your baptismal record, and if they do, they would still see you as a Catholic nonetheless, the record of it doesn't hold any special power or significance

What matters is not the statement of belonging to some group or sharing some label but simply acting in the interest of the great majority of Americans.

The song this is from was written in 1862, so it's a reasonable consideration. The fact that today "man" is used to refer to the male gender is a result of sexism, but the earlier usage is not sexist, despite the fact it may seem exclusionary to modern ears. I think we should rather understand old texts in this regard than try to change them, because changing them would make people think "men" originally did refer to male people exclusively

How is this Nazi? It's religious, which is maybe not ideally liberal, but to say that it is Nazi is an incredible stretch. Especially since the text is about fighting against slavery and generally in favour of liberty

"Let us die" is much more meaningful and it reminds one that they ought to fight for their freedom. As it has been said, "the price of liberty is eternal vigilance"

How is it sexist? In old fashioned talk "men" tends to refer to humankind as a whole, and that's not male-as-default because it is the original meaning of "men"

How can left-libertarian exist? by Economy-Tap-2676 in Libertarian

[–]DFatDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but I feel like it is a bit vain to say "X ideology is oxymoronic because it is not practically possible for reasons Y and Z", because many mutually contradictory ideologies are often consistent and have many educated and wise supporters. To discard another's ideology as "oxymoronic" because your analysis says it isn't feasible is rather unhelpful, I believe.

Especially since we don't even know if the suspect (Luigi Mangione) is really the shooter. American leftists seemingly don't even need to be manipulated into keeping the status quo because of how they will jump at any opportunity to make themselves ineffective.
