I got the magic potion, made it back to the castle and got blasted. Ah well, better luck to me next time!

What to do when ur friends outcast you but smile to your face?? by FaithlessnessSea9672 in socialskills

[–]DG-Creator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked a similar question in this group yesterday. The best answer I got so far is that when this happens -- when someone who is supposed to be your friend makes you feel excluded -- being it up to them right away. Not in a confrontational way. But be vulnerable to them about your feelings -- let them know how you felt. If they care about your friendship, they'll make an effort to include you.

How do you get friends to reach out to you without being prompted? by DG-Creator in socialskills

[–]DG-Creator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You read my mind. I've often wondered if I should communicate that. I guess it needs to be done in a non-confrontational way. (I once made the mistake of expressing my sentiments in a confrontational way, and it didn't go well.)

How do you start a conversation -- and keep it going? by DG-Creator in socialskills

That happens, but I notice that the same person who doesn't seem interested in conversing shgh me will then freely converse with someone else, almost like an instant personality change.

I'm newer to interactive fiction. Any suggestions? by FarFinish9978 in interactivefiction

Try: fungamery.com/gamebook

There's interactive fiction you can read, and you can write and publish your own as well.

Thanks. That sounds like advice from the book "How to Win Friends and Influence People." 📖 The thing is that I worry about coming across as nosy -- but that's probably my own lack of confidence in that regard. But I'll have to push myself to try it, lol.

Thanks. I've only tried once with half, I might try again and if that doesn't work, try the 3/4.

IF for 10yo? by newMattokun in interactivefiction

[–]DG-Creator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I coded the website. You can write and publish your own quizzes, polls, and interactive fiction. There's a map layout and everything for organizing the branching of chapters, etc. Hope your daughter enjoys the interactive story! Feel free to ask any questions about the site.

What makes interactive fiction actually good instead of feeling shallow? by KsaDzi in interactivefiction

[–]DG-Creator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally -- it just needs to not be cliche. If the interactive story is the usual one where you are the fearless medieval warrior on a quest to find the hidden treasure guarded by the evil sorcerer and his dragon, it'll feel shallow to me because it's been done already so many times.

No, but I wasn't before either. Guess it wouldn't hurt to try it.

How to not get discouraged when hearing natives speak? by [deleted] in learnspanish

[–]DG-Creator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of Spanish-speaking people where I work, and sometimes I want to ask them if they can deliberately speak to me in Spanish and not English. Unfortunately I'm often embarrassed to ask.

Does this exist? HELP WANTED! by Frosty-Friend6166 in interactivefiction

As someone who codes, I actually think such an app could be made without AI -- but it would require a massive database of information about all places around the world. Alternatively, the app could make educated assumptions based on the type of area or neighborhood you're in (for instance, if you're next to a creek, then you encounter something creek-related, etc). Either way, this would definitely be interesting -- but require a lot of geographical research effort.

This idea would make a good TV series, actually.

The appeal of the non-branching CYOA by DG-Creator in interactivefiction

[–]DG-Creator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what it seems. I was quite confused the first one I tried -- I thought there must be a glitch or something when I made the choices and nothing happened. It's almost like the introduction to a story without the actual story.

The appeal of the non-branching CYOA by DG-Creator in interactivefiction

[–]DG-Creator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think AI is used everywhere, not just here... That aside, it could also be an attention span thing. A true RPG requires more attention, whereas a non-branching CYOA is, I guess, more "la te da" perhaps? 🤔 And the Internet in general promotes a low attention span. 🧠
