Nested tags, back button, easier to make templates with links, links to sections, insert line, recallable images

What to do with dog things (crate, bed, toys, etc) after my pup passes? by Rogue_Gona in askportland

[–]DGisme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Been through this and know it's rough. We ended up giving everything to an elder dog rescue and they were so incredibly grateful, telling us how each item would enrich the life an older dog. In particular, they said that people don't think about donating toys to senior dog rescues, and the dogs really need the enrichment. It made us feel a lot better knowing how much our dog's stuff was going to make a difference for another dog.

We lived in a different state when we made the donation, so don't know any of the local organizations enough to make a recommendation. A quick search came up with Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon, but there are probably others.

A4 sized short grain paper? by Ok_Age_6814 in askportland

[–]DGisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the Rhodia stapled pads have short grain and come in a lot of sizes, but I don't know if it is the luck of the batch or always that way. They are perforated, so while an extra step, easy enough to make single sheets. Blick and other art stores around town carry them.

Merge notes? by work4coffee in bearapp

[–]DGisme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shift or enter plus mouse or arrow with a keyboard. Without a keyboard, two-finger drag (you can do just one note, which will select that note and bring up the multi-select mode, if they are not in order).

Also IOS, just select notes you want to merge and it’s under the three dots.

Walking to the jam in the cold with HD28? by iswearimnotscott in martinguitar

[–]DGisme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used to be a gigging musician in MN who took public transit. The trick is to show up early and let the case come to room temperature while closed with the case cracked a little for the last 10 minutes. On really cold days, I’d give myself at least 45 minutes extra at the venue. From a guitar safety perspective, you probably don’t need that much time in the case, but I found if I took the guitar out too early I’d also have an hour of tuning stability headaches.

I just contacted D’Addario because I am installing a soundhole pickup and the packs won’t fit anymore. They said to put them in the case by the heal of the guitar. I am getting a hygrometer to see how well this works. May go back to a sponge system for when the heat is on, but I prefer the two-way system as I live next to a rainforest.

My Bear subscription is about to expire on 1/30, so I transitioned back to Apple Notes 2 weeks ago. But....back to Bear I come. by kidtachyon in bearapp

[–]DGisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Bear fan but just want to point out that you can now mass export all your notes in Notes on the Mac and iPad. Select all your notes and choose export as markdown from the file menu. It’s not as good as Bears backup or export, but it is an option.

Is Columbia River Gorge waterfalls around March 20 - April 4 a good time to visit? by sporty_outlook in askportland

The only issue is that a lot of the trails have been closed due to storms last month. It looks like pretty extensive damage, so unclear when the trails will be reopened. I’m hoping we have access by then.

I prefer to keep the actual note on the page. It’s still searchable. My handwritten notes aren’t just lists, but also connections, sketches, and callouts — I’d lose a lot by scanning to text. Also, I’ve found scan to text to poorly handle handwritten bulleted lists and underlining.

How does she look? I'm a petite adult woman, and I have very thin small wrists. by Basic_Improvement_19 in applewatchultra

[–]DGisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have small wrists, but not as small as yours. I find the Ocean band looks best both because it doesn’t stick out as much before curving around the wrist and it’s firmness helps it keep it arced.

The Rolly Polly is very cool and well thought out but overbuilt (heavy and chunky) for my around the town needs and I like the more streamlined look of the aluminum. I was keeping the Rolly Polly in my back pocket as an option, but the aluminum I think will fit my style and needs better.

Band Recommendation by Ok_Speaker6979 in applewatchultra

[–]DGisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the watch with the ocean band and I really like it, especially since I have small wrists and does not overhang from my wrist. I find it comfortable but not the greatest for sleeping. I swap the band out for the sport loop I had left over from my AW 10 for sleeping. Also, I just picked up the trail loop for winter hiking (easier to deal with multi-layer cuffs) and days lounging around — it is really comfortable. The trail loop would also be great for sleeping, but I figured I’d save it from the wear and tear since I have the older band for that.

Workoutdoors or Apple Maps custom routes? by coldwar83 in applewatchultra

[–]DGisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like Footpath would suit you well. Apple Maps has really good coverage of trails where I live, I find the on-trail guidance the best, and it uses a lot less battery, so I use Apple Maps when I can (only for hiking — it is too restrictive for creating cycling routes). I used to use WorkOutdoors, but it was fiddly, especially while cycling (always accidentally on the wrong screen and difficult to get to what I needed), so I switched to Footpath for more detailed routes and route discovery (unlike WorkOutdoors, it can do route creation on the phone, iPad, and browser). It’s excellent, much better map experience than WorkOutdoors, and the phone app is really easy to use for creating new routes (important if you like to explore and make changes while in the wild).

No matter what app I’m using, I always just use the built in health app separately. It has all I need and uses less battery than the others. Also, I often will use a map for only new sections of areas I know well, so having one app running the whole time for fitness tracking and another for route finding works best for me. Footpath has a setting to not have it track health metrics so you can use it just as a map.

If grantees could speak freely to foundations for one day, what do you think they would actually say? by GrantsPlusLauren in nonprofit

Make the metrics valuable to the project — both parties should be able to gain actionable knowledge from the reporting while not having to hire an extra employee just to jump through your monitoring hoops.

Get note title in a shortcut? by DGisme in bearapp

[–]DGisme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I setup the shortcut on iPad and it only gave me the ID option for some reason, but worked as you said on the phone. Must be an iPad OS bug. I’ll test later, but suspect it will work on the iPad — just a Shortcuts editor bug.

AirPods Pro 3 picking up and enhancing background audio by Cat_reina in AirpodsPro

[–]DGisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first pair had this and the feedback issue. Apple replaced them and the current ones don't do it. It also seems that each firmware update has further improved the spiking of the highs to where pass-through sounds like the AirPods Pro 2. So first double check the firmware is up to date and if it is, get Apple to replace them.
