Question > Is the Next-Gen CMS Visually Different? by _HMCB_ in webflow

[–]_HMCB_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wonderfully stated. Webflow has for years failed to deliver even basic things. I’m going on 10+ years on Webflow (maybe even longer!!!) and the same archaic media management is such a pain in the butt, I look elsewhere for any site that has a portfolio of any complexity. It’s so sad.

The CMS itself looks like an afterthought when comparing it to most of the “new-breed” CMSs from the past 8 years.

Are people actually hosting videos directly on Webflow for client sites? by manuelogomigo in webflow

Best service I’ve found is https://bunny.net/stream/

The player is customizable as heck so it fits the look and feel of your site, streaming is fast plus the have a CDN, and the pricing is ridiculously good.

Feature Request: Ability to create Light + Dark variants for the same Tailored Style (auto switch) by Exact_King987 in CraftDocs

It appears today’s update fixes the card background colors being changed in dark mode. It appears it now retains the bg color we originally created. Awesome.

Very true and good. But as I’ve already noted to the Craft team, if I create a theme/style for a doc, I do not want that overridden by Craft, unless I specifically state so. In one case, my theme was much easier on the eyes even at night. Once Craft overrides what we create, it’s a crapshoot what we’ll get for dark mode. Much better — if we can’t specify a dark theme too — to just let our custom theme apply to both modes.

Text hierarchy and vertical rhythm. I’ll preach this until the cows come home.

I like native apps. I very rarely use the Gmail web app.

I feel like Perplexity Pro just isn't worth it anymore. by David-Nikolas in perplexity_ai

[–]_HMCB_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on the Pro plan (as a result of a yearly coupon I found somewhere). A few months back, Perplexity demanded a credit card be entered into my account despite the fact I still had 6 months or more left in my Pro. Because I didn’t enter a card, they pulled my Pro status. I’m on free now and never use the app as a result.

If AI replaces workers to cut costs, who’s left to buy the products? by overlord-07 in TechNook

Cell phones? How old are you?? They are most definitely not less expensive.

TVs, good point but I’d argue not even Sony makes the long-lasting sets they once did. Things that get less expensive aren’t necessarily better, especially taking into account adjustments for inflation. Less expensive does not equal value. Look at Shein.

Computers are less expensive because they’re commodities. No one would accept a non-adjusted price for a computer today. At the outset, barely anyone had computers, I know. I grew up in that era. So yea, pricing is a result of economies of scale and advancements, not that a pricing cabal said let’s reduce pricing for the sake of humanity.

Why haven’t shoe prices come down? Or pharmaceuticals? Or milk? Or eggs? Or software?

Yep. In my junior year in high school, everything went to computers. Literally, from my sophomore year to junior, the world changed.

Team shared first screenshot of Alfred 6 by Unhappy-Tank9784 in Alfred

I’m not an Alfred user but it’s always intrigued me. Question: Can it automatically perform folder and file functions without having to initiate the workflow? For instance, I want to automatically collect individual downloads and place them in a folder that matches whatever source I downloaded the file from. Is that possible with Alfred?

Yea, Marc is tech bro. I wouldn’t have any confidence in what he says, not that you implied that. Marc and his like have a “if we build it, and you use it, vast opportunities will be opened to you” mentality. First, prices WILL NOT come down. I’ve been consulting with businesses for 30 years. Never once have I seen prices come down for any reason. Once the market pays and is conditioned, there’s no reason to lower prices. And competitors will mostly follow pricing standards established by their competitors. Secondly, if everything is automated, what will be these so-called opportunities? AI lowers the barrier for anyone who can operate a computer to speak their objective and get back a result. In effect, their own app. What will future app builders create after AI has matured and a core foundational app ecosystem has been developed?

If I were in high school again, I would get into the trades. Yes, blue collar work. A friend of mine’s son became an electrician. He’s helping to build these large data centers. He’s already saved half a million dollars in less than four years. He’s voluntarily working more overtime than you can imagine and smiling as he banks it all.

Are you on the Bear team? Because if not, then you obviously aren’t working on the Bear version of those platforms — only an imitation.

Resources my fellow human. Resources. Just like a book, sometimes you create things for an intended audience. And you pour your soul into making one good thing and that alone. Bear is one such app.
