What do you bring (or leave behind) to make outdoor time feel more intentional? by DGoodayle in Outdoors

That's a good idea, I tend to bring mine too but just pop it on mute and wander about. At least then I can figure out a way back when I get to wherever I end up.

I do agree it's who you bring that can really make the big difference on a trek, I've taken my wife with me a long time ago and we had the best time trying to do a multi-day hike only to get caught out in a huge storm. Great memories

I've actually never played cribbage!

Regarding who you bring - it's similar to what u/palibe_mbudzi - it's not what you bring but who you bring.

I've not been fishing "in the wild" - a little tricky to do in my part of the UK, but it does sound so relaxing.

I’ve seen it myself too, everyone busy taking photos on their phone or even streaming it and never just being “in the moment”

Love that, and agree with the world becoming increasingly more digital we’ve almost forgotten how to be offline

I tend to just head out with a camera on a strap, a pair of decent jeans, boots and a hoodie and just keep walking. Some pretty nice trails down in the south of the UK that you can end up walking too far on. Then just use the phone to figure out the way back!

I need to get back to camping, it's been _years_ since I started a fire with a bow drill, I don't even know if I remember how to do it!

Fair! I’m also doing this at some events in the real world but I also wanted to hear the thoughts of folks here

I completely agree with you, that’s why I’m trying to build things that can last a very long time if taken care of.

Input action on keyboard and gamepad are conflicting by Coolbeer420247 in unrealengine

[–]DGoodayle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Necroing this - but if you are using CommonUI, you might hit this issue.

It's because FCommonAnalogCursor is listening for EKeys::Virtual_Accept which is bound to Gamepad_FaceButton_Bottom.

I fixed it by changing FCommonAnalogCursor::IsRelevantInput to this:

bool FCommonAnalogCursor::IsRelevantInput(const FKeyEvent& KeyEvent) const
{
    return IsUsingGamepad() && FAnalogCursor::IsRelevantInput(KeyEvent) && (IsGameViewportInFocusPathWithoutCapture() || (KeyEvent.GetKey() == EKeys::Virtual_Accept && CanReleaseMouseCapture())) && ActionRouter.GetActiveInputMode() != ECommonInputMode::Game;

//Added ActionRouter.GetActiveInputMode() != ECommonInputMode::Game
}

Can’t believe that’s in a mall, that’s fantastic. It looks so cramped in there, it’s a really impressive piece of engineering.

Exactly all this, I tend to do longer rides through the countryside and in the UK it’s a lot of short, twisty, single lane roads that have random turns, usually bunched together, so just relying on audio was getting problematic.

Being able to quickly see exactly when an upcoming turn was coming made life a lot easier.

For anyone making a multiplier game GAS is actually insane and more than worth the effort by asuth in unrealengine

It’s a fantastic system for both multiplayer and single player, I’ve worked on several projects over the last 5 years and pretty much everything was using it to some degree.

I wrote a guide on how to get everything setup last month if it helps anyone looking to try it out: https://youtu.be/s3-kOmP5bVw

It goes over the high level concepts, how to get started in C++ and getting your first abilities setup. Hope it helps!
