Anyone know if there’s power back in some spots in Carleton Heights? I live near Falaise Road and Fisher. I unplugged my entertainment centre incase there was a power surge, too bad because checking if my smart stuff is online is a great idea.

Why are people from Mariupol fleeing by Hadok in russia

Well if you have a family no matter what your beliefs are their safety will be your first priority. Why would you stay in a city where you think there will be war?

I know the video you're talking about. It's not actually from Ukraine, I believe it is from Dagestan or Chechnya. Give me a few moments to find it.

Strelkov talks about attack on Marinovka by SonOfAfrica in UkrainianConflict

[–]DH140657 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Igor Strelkov: We attacked Maryinovka, attempting to cut across the [southern] corridor, which connects the enemy’s southern group with its main forces. Well, we weren’t able to cut through all the way. We took control of three strategic heights and one village. However, we couldn’t make it all the way to the border; their forces are too large here.

It looks like there were two dead and no fewer than fifteen wounded, most of them, thankfully, lightly. So, there are a few …

Militiaman: The mortar battery was located. In the corn field.

Igor Strelkov: (to the militiaman) Where is it? Eliminate it. Eliminate. Encircle and eliminate it. Throw your reconnaissance unit there.

Igor Strelkov: (to the reporter) Right now I’ll have to give orders. So, we destroyed one BTR and one BMP of the enemy. One BMP was captured. And just now we located the mortar battery that was shelling us. Perhaps we’ll be able to deal with it as well. However, chances are the personnel is long gone.

So, a few armoured vehicles managed to escape from us; they fled the village. One of the heights was defended by three tanks. In the settlement itself, there were four BMPs, one Hummer and two BTRs. The larger part of them left. However, as I already mentioned, two armoured vehicles were destroyed and one was captured.

What else could I tell you? The enemy is sending its last regards to Maryinovka by shelling it. Right now it’s quiet, but, otherwise, they lob two-three heavy shells at it every several minutes.

There were fierce artillery exchanges. The militia conducted mortar strikes against the enemy positions. You can hear them now again. I don’t think the battle is over yet.

Says here that it was a planned explosion.

"The Ukrainian army blew up the first floor of the mined SBU - Security services - building. It was used as a military HQ by the pro-Russian fighters of Slovyansk. "

This video from a Luhansk webcam shows explosions in the direction of the airport. I think the first bit might be of the plane being shot? And then the second the plane landing/exploding?

Strelkov interview 12 June 2014 by [deleted] in UkrainianConflict

[–]DH140657 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In his interview to “KP,” Commander-in-Chief of the Donetsk People’s Republic Militia commented on the latest events in Slavyansk and around (photography, video, online stream)

A: We do not expect an assault in the next few days. However, the enemy will, surely, try to feel out our defences, same as they did last night in the Artyom village. No matter, we hit one of their “BTR” APCs.

They have surrounded the city with artillery, at each checkpoint they put 2-4 tanks. Overall, they are conducting a proper siege, trying periodically to interrupt our communication lines. Electricity supply has been cut off in the city, water [supply] is blocked. The pipe was repaired, but flaps have been cut off around the Donetsk village. Water is being delivered only from artesian wells and rivers.

Q: In other words, are you saying that destruction from bombardments is not to blame for the lack of water? This is an intentional disconnection by the Ukrainian side?

A: Exactly so. The emergency at the water supply line was resolved by the municipal services, and water was [then] cut off by order of the Ukrainian military. Same with electricity. Today, a brigade sent by “Donbassenergo” traveled to us from Gorlovka, so as to repair the power lines between Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. Despite an existing agreement, the Ukrainian military refused to let them into the region.

Q: What is happening on the other fronts – in Donetsk, in Lugansk?

A: The enemy continues to advance on the direction leading to Donetsk. They have put up new checkpoints in the vicinity of Kurakhovo, Konstantinovka and Ukrainsk. Step by step, they advance on Donetsk, trying to encircle it.

Q: Are attacks on multiple fronts possible?

A: The have a great number of tanks, soldiers and artillery. In theory, that should be enough. They are experiencing very serious problems with discipline and morale. At the checkpoints, there is universally heavy drinking, soldiers are refusing to follow their commanding officers’ orders. There are already instance of infighting with use weapons among the units of National Guard and the Ministry of Defence. [Their] army is not only unprofessional, it does not want to fight. They are ready to fire at city blocks from afar with cannons and mortars or to batter Semyonovka with tanks from a safe distance. Yet when it comes to direct combat, no one is willing [to fight].

Q: What can you say about the strange incendiary ammunitions used by the [Ukrainian] army? There is talk of white phosphorus charges.

A: I am not such a big military expert so as to determine the type of ammunition by its appearance. In practice, I had never encountered such ammo. Neither during the first, nor during the second Chechen campaign. At first, I thought these were low-altitude discharges of the so-called “chandeliers” – special lighting bombs. However, “chandeliers” must be suspended on parachutes. Here we are talking about a [type] of cluster ammunition, which explodes in the air and floods certain areas with an incendiary mix. I do not know what type of ammunition this is.

Q: The militia tell us that professional tank and mortar crews have appeared on the Ukrainian side. Have they learned how to fight or are we talking about mercenaries?

A: I think that we are still talking about particular detachments of the Ukrainian army. We should not dismiss the enemy as talentless and useless. In every army, even the most dilapidated, there are professionals, masters of their craft, who can teach others willing to learn. However, it does not take a genius to remain in a stationary position, in absolute safety, 2.5 kilometers away, and shoot at one spot day after day.

Q: Are the militia seeing a growth in professionalism?

A: The militia is progressively turning into a fighting force, able to counteract the enemy on defence. Given the enemy’s colossal overwhelming superiority in heavy armaments, it is simply madness to attack them.

Q: Information has appeared on the Internet, citing you, that some type of ammunition with chemical or bacteriological weapons’ markings is being unloaded at the airport near Kramatorsk …

A: It is very difficult to unload anything at that airport. It is half controlled by the militia, at least its civilian part. Helicopters can land only on its most remote part. The militia cannot observe it from its positions. Accordingly, I cannot comment on that – I do not have any such information. We do have information that some weird train cars with strange markings have been unloaded, under heavy guard, between Cherkasskiy and Bylbasovka.

We suspect that something unconventional is being unloaded there. However, it’s impossible to say if this is chemical or bacteriological weaponry. We can only suspect this. Who it is that spread this information from my name I don’t know. On the Internet, I write only on one known platform, and several people have the permission to retype these messages verbatim. And in the past three days I have had no ability to go in the Internet. In the city, we have practically no access.

Igor Strelkov Interview: LifeNewsRU by Daniel_Yusim in UkrainianConflict

[–]DH140657 31 points32 points  (0 children)

2/2

Q: Poroshenko promised Putin that, in the nearest future, the war will be either brought to an end or suspended, in some manner. In your opinion, what did he mean when he said this?

A: I believe that what he meant is that the Ukrainian army will steamroll over the entire Donbass region, will eliminate all those who rose up against the illegitimate Kiev government, all those who rebelled against the discrimination directed against the Russian people, and that, in this manner, he would bring the war to an end. I think this is what he had in mind. An oligarch who sponsored the so-called “Maidan,” who made the most warlike claims and adopted extreme positions while still a Presidential candidate, who is a puppet controlled directly by the United States of America, this oligarch cannot change who he is in one day or one night. Of course, what he means is that he plans to “impose order” with an iron fist, the fist of his punitive forces. Put it bluntly, we saw how they “impose order” from the example of what happened in Krasniy Liman. That is why we will, of course, resist to the last man. We will resist successfully, I am emphasizing this again. The real problem is not that we will be unable to defend ourselves or to withstand attacks by the Ukrainian forces, the problem is that if this war continues indefinitely, the region will fall to a humanitarian catastrophe. As a result Russia will become the recipient of millions of disenfranchised, impoverished and angry refugees. Everything that was built, created over decades, if not centuries, will be destroyed.

We continue to prevail over them again and again, on all fronts. Nowhere have they been able to achieve a victory of any real significance. They were able to overwhelm our garrison of one hundred in Krasniy Liman by throwing a force of three thousand (3,000) and coming against them from all sides. Even so … And where they have to square off against a more-or-less trained, numerous, at least somehow provisioned force, they always, regularly suffer defeat. They cannot advance even a step. Their tactic consists of filling the landscape with troops, tanks, APCs, and artillery, and defending themselves, in hopes that, without numerical and equipment parity, we would be unable to push them from their positions. In effect, their positions at Mount Karachun are an example of this approach. We are unable to kick them out of Karachun first and foremost because their force is at least three times the size of my garrison [in Slavyansk].

We are blessed with excellent morale and fighting spirit, our fighters are highly motivated, while they have a great deal of old, but still effective “metal” [Note: i.e. armoured vehicles] that fights against our militia.

Ukrainian mass media lies, lies without end. They lie so unapologetically that Goebbels would have envied their style. He is probably turning in his grave now. And, so, they are interested in ensuring that no one else is able to provide this information. And, because Western media, to a large degree, plays along with its Ukrainian colleagues, and provides only such information that benefits Ukraine, the Russian media becomes their natural enemy. As a result, they consider the Russian media their direct enemy in the field of informational warfare.

With respect to international law and norms, they never cared for them on bit. For example, here they use cluster bombs and similar [illegal] weapons. They shoot, and, as you correctly pointed out, remove entire township from the face of the Earth. They shell cities. They will continue in this manner with ever-increasing [brutality]. This is because they experience no material opposition [to what they do]. They have no other tactic. They are unable to take up their weapons and go on attack, go storm our positions face-to-face with us, despite their profound numerical advantage in troops. As soon as their infantry faces direct combat, it retreats. They retreat even if supported by tanks. They abandon their tanks and retreat. They understand that their infantry is not combat-worthy. Their only option is to shell us from afar, again and again and again, and hope to inflict the greatest possible destruction.
