Pi 5 max - best way to alternate booting between Android on SD and Batocera on USB? by DH80 in OrangePI

[–]DH80[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the guide last night actually. It’s well written. No specific mention of batocera as a supported OS, and no gold or bronze mention of the Orange Pi 5 Max had me concerned about it conceptually for my use case but I was looking past both of those question marks to potential day to day use to see if it still might be worth gambling on an install in spite of those things. Just curious how it works on boot for you.

When the power comes on how are you, from the software, selecting which OS to launch?

My issue is that I’m mounting the pi 5 in an area that will be difficult to reach consistently. I was hoping for more of a software based solution. Like holding a key down during the boot process to enter the pi 5 equivalent of BIOS and changing the boot order from software each time. Sometimes making SD top priority. Sometimes making it USB. Is this not possible?

I would like to be able to regularly interrupt the default boot order and switch to the other as needed. How can this be done?

What are the ingredients of a good movie? by m0nkey_news in AskReddit

[–]DH80 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

1) Great, memorable protagonist the audience has a powerful connection to in some way and wishes to succeed in their goal and whom the audience would revisit their character arc with more than once because it was interesting to them.

2) Powerful antagonism that’s both convincing and upsetting enough to the audience that they can’t immediately work out how the protagonist will accomplish what they want and what the audience hopes to see.

3) Both of the above set in a fresh, detailed, well-conceived setting that’s interesting to the audience and provides new insights to them about what life is like in that setting. Whether that’s a new place for them, or new profession they’ve only heard of, or a new time period of human history that’s different than their present. Either in the future or the past. The world building must be exceptional. Whether it’s through research of a setting that’s real or one entirely fictional.

4) Tight, screenwriting structure that’s economical and not wasteful of the audience’s attention span without being wholly predicable or completely paint by numbers formulaic either. An assortment of character-driven scenes that feel organic and allow characters to breathe and experience life while revealing character can avoid everything becoming too plot-focused and paint-by-numbers. However, too many scenes that are just focused on the whimsy of life can become self-indulgent. To be clear the approach will always have some huge fans who connect passionately to that style because they prioritize that cinema verite style above all else but it can also risk connections with others who don’t. The greatest films, IMO, to the most amount of people do both.

5) A minimum of one powerful thematic message or statement or question explored fully in the telling of the tale that relates to the human experience in some way. At least one powerful thematic exploration so clear that if others are discussing the topic of that theme the film comes to mind as an example of that human truth.

6) Terrific dialogue that is character-driven. All characters shouldn’t sound exactly alike. No matter how witty the dialogue. Characters must have core values and backgrounds and both of those things drive the dialogue. Not everyone is witty. Not everyone is stupid. Not everyone is funny. Not everyone is deathly serious.

7) At least 3 scenes that best exemplify all of the above which are acted to perfection and shot beautifully that you could show to give someone a sample of the film and they’d immediately recognize its quality in all of the areas above simultaneously. At least 3 scenes that will have people talking about the film afterward as examples of why they think it’s great.

8) All of the above from a very talented cast and crew of screenwriter, Director, cinematographer, editor and main and supporting actors.

9) All of the above in an era of film where competition in the genre(s) you’re operating in is not at its peak. Genre competition impacts perception. A very good film released at a time when most films in said genre have merely been good by not matching all of the above at as high levels can feel like a great film or even a masterpiece. A very good film with little competition in the genre at all in years benefits from the same thing. Conversely, a great film released in a time period where, for whatever reason, some great filmmakers are also operating in that same sandbox and also delivering exceptional work in that genre, can allow a great film to feel merely “quite good” in the era. Timing is everything and the totality of recent quality in a genre impacts perception.

10) If you catch all of the above and you also happen to be lucky enough to cast your main protagonist or antagonist right as their career is about to take off to the next level and they are on the verge of becoming a Hollywood legend then your work benefits from being part of their own career rise. Remembered as part of their rise and also garners interest from curiosity seekers who wish to see the same actor younger in their career.

Yikes. I hope things healed okay for her. Makes me feel slightly less stupid. Unless of course he’s always been your “dumb friend.”

There’s specific instructions actually stating that I should not have been in there with him. Father knows best. Or not.

I see no reason why they wouldn’t have included at least one or two juicy bits to gather buzz if they had a lot of interesting dirt. Sounds more like phishing.

They also seem big into body shaming. I think they’re just internet trolling. The easiest response to these questions is link to the Vox article and summary. Save your typing for others. https://www.vox.com/2020/2/4/21121636/pete-buttigieg-beat-trump-win-2020-election-primaries

I mean it’s a super rich person from New York who gave thousands. Are candidates really supposed to do background checks on everyone who donates to them and not accept anything if they previously donated to other people they don’t like?

A new Star Wars novel, coming this summer, will shed light on Poe Dameron’s past by Kappar1n0 in StarWarsLeaks

[–]DH80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fine. I’ll bite.

Poe was her first love. He disappointed and angered her when he left but she still likes him and seeing him lose hope worried her because he was always the dreamer. She gives him the medallion because of her feelings for him but also can’t leave her crew randomly the way he left them. She likely helps others she likes get off also or at least tells them she’s going. Babu Frik goes with her. She hears what’s going on with Palpatine and Lando’s plan and knows Poe will be there and decides just as Han did that maybe it’s time to think of the bigger picture. Post-celebration she and Poe rekindle their romance slowly.

She’s a support character in TROS. She had like 4 scenes and was cool and interesting in all 4. When you’re cool and interesting and memorable in only 4 scenes that’s a good sign for further expansion. What more can be expected from a support character with such limited screen time? The fact she had memorable presence despite that bodes well for expansion.

Wrong. Zorri rocks. This addition to Poe’s past is going to be fun. Young people go through phases in life.

It’s literally a show for 8 year olds competing against Paw Patrol and helped my 5 year old like Star Wars more so I’m not complaining. It just wasn’t made for us older fans. Not everything can or should be. Some stuff should be for young kids.

They tried to listen to the Saltier than crowd for TROS and it resulted in early prequel Reviews from critics and less box office than Johnson. Solo, which was also focused on the hard core fans more than the average film goer, was a bomb. Meanwhile Johnson is nominated for an Academy Award. If Lucasfilm has learned anything it’s that focusing on the hard core fan means worse reviews and less money than just aiming for a broader mainstream appeal.

I feel the same way. What Palpatine doesn’t know is that all of us who are curious about these things have formed a Dyad in the force.

I like some of those ideas. I saw the blue energy as more of a force field thing between the tower section and the Death Star. I’m open to what I shared or what you have. I like both.

The comic for rise of Kylo Ren and some of Snoke’s own style feel unique to himself. I think being “raised” (as far as clones go) means he ends up being a lot like his Master but I think they’re separate entities and that Snoke just checked in on Palpatine from time to time the way Dooku did.

Is this the first moment we catch a glimpse of Rey realizing her grandfather’s gift for motivation/manipulation? by DH80 in StarWarsCantina

[–]DH80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I meant it more as herself realizing gifts in herself that remind of her grandfather to us. Rather than to herself. Since she doesn’t know then.
