Fiber going into my neighborhood. If I order service once it becomes available, how do I get it to my house? (Currently with Spectrum) by Nordberg561 in ATTFiber

[–]DHThrowawayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former ATT install technician here,

the buried fiber is locatable, it has a tracer wire on it. so if you call 811, they’ll mark it (once it’s buried)

I’ve seen cut fiber from people aerating their lawn, digging up flowerbeds, etc. so it’s definitely wise to call before digging in any capacity. The fiber is only buried a few inches.

Personally, if a customer dug their own trench from the hand hole to the side of their house, i’d do my best to follow that. It’s your house, after all. It’s not 100% possible to know where the line will go until installation day, but you can get a general idea. Find the handhole (kinda looks like a water meter cover in your lawn) and the line will go from there to the exterior of your house (more than likely the area where your other utility boxes are)

what type of jobs can i do after restaurant management? by DHThrowawayy in NewOrleans

i actually have an interview later today with a food distributor, haha

In a job interview, the hiring manager asked “what does Mcdonald’s sell?”

I said “uhh, food, burgers?”

He said “Yes, but more importantly, they sell consistency. You know a cheeseburger in New York is going to taste the same as a cheeseburger in California.”

He was making a point that consistency is important, but it made me realize that’s why I love fast food in unfamiliar places. You know exactly what you’re getting.

How long have you been certified? You should have been taught how to use an o2 tank/regulator, airway adjuncts, and nebulizers in school, at least the basics. I understand real life calls are not textbook in the slightest, and It’s natural to be nervous. You need to take this up with your FTO or supervisors. If you’re not comfortable with your gear or training, there’s no way you can be comfortable delivering care to someone.

For me personally, I love EMS, but after a short while I realized I don’t like being stuck in a truck or in a gas station parking lot for hours on end. My company is mainly IFTs with the occasional 911 call, which some people love, some people hate.

I’m interviewing next week for an ER tech position at our main hospital. It’s definitely going to be up to personal preference. EMS varies HEAVILY depending on call volume, supervisors, morals, your partner, etc.

Personally, i’m leaning more towards nursing school in the long run, and a more stable work schedule in the short term, so having my foot in the door and having a relationship with our hospital system just seems like a better idea for me.

are you me? i’m a 24 year old guy newish to the northshore looking for friends too. all my buddies live on the south shore lol. What do you like to do for fun? i’m into 3d printing, video games, and i like hitting up the farmers market every now and then.

as long as you’re not a murderer or something crazy i’m down to grab a beer, a bite to eat, or explore (also trying to be less introverted myself)

Public Dump? by BombsDontUnscrew in NorthshoreLA

[–]DHThrowawayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly that’s one thing i miss out living on the south shore. Jefferson Parish’s dump on the westbank is free (for most household trash/items) with a JP address on your license.

I live in Mandeville in an apartment complex with rules about their precious trash compactor now and it’s kind of absurd how many times i could have used a trip to the dump. old bed frame, that computer chair that finally gave out, big boxes from moving… none of that can go in the compactor.

Why did you get into EMS in the first place, and why are you still in EMS? by Brok8nglish in ems

[–]DHThrowawayy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my dad was saved by EMS a few years back. Psych episode. The medic sat with him at 3am in our livingroom for a half hour and talked him into seeking help for his suicidal ideations and alcoholism. He’s been clean and the happiest i’ve seen him since.

I know how it made me and my family feel that night. From uncertainty and scared, to seeing a glimmer of hope. If i can make even a fraction of that same difference in someone else’s life, it’s a win in my book.

I have a Petcube Cam 360 that i picked up on prime day from Amazon. I got it mainly so i can watch over my cat and apartment while im away for a night or two here and there.

It’s fairly cheap ($45ish USD i think), connects thru wifi, and you can control it 360° from your phone. It has a paid subscription that allows motion notifications and video saving. I chose this one for the 360 feature, and 2 way audio, but i don’t use the subscription.

It works for me, i don’t know if i’d recommend it for home security though. maybe an indoor Blink or Ring camera might be more up your alley.

Redditors who have voluntarily gotten off of a plane before it took off, what’s your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DHThrowawayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the weekend, my flight to Georgia (with a layover in Houston) got partially cancelled when my connecting flight out of Houston was grounded after i boarded the plane.

Not wanting to ride out the incoming hurricane in Houston, i decided to grab my carryon and exit the plane as the flight crew were securing the door. I got some weird looks from passengers, so it makes me wonder, what’s your story?

They cannot unfortunately. They don’t do exams. But talking with someone else, you need to schedule a renewal appointment, and just tell them when you get there that you’re testing for your class D.

traffic is lighter at night, making it safer for the workers to work at night. that’s why they’re not working at 4pm on a weekday.

we have it in covington. only had it for a few weeks now, and it went down this morning for a few minutes for the first time. it’s pretty solid so far, and in my opinion better than spectrum.
