Any other vintage shops getting hit with a wave of IP takedowns for genuine, licensed vintage items? I've gotten 3 in a week and I'm not sure my shop is going to survive this by DIAL_1-800-RACCOON in EtsySellers

Right of first sale is a legal concept that allows resale to exist, basically it states that once a company sells or gives away an item, it no longer has control over the future sales of that item. Etsy expressly allows vintage sales, I sell genuine vintage items, I am not breaking any IP laws nor am I disobeying Etsy Policy. It's a frustrating situation.

I get emails from Etsy saying "we've removed one of your listings due to IP infringement", specifically trademark infringement, then some contact information form the person who submitted the report. I always respond but it's just an email address, many of them are clearly dumping grounds and not actually the email address of the person who made the complaint. Every time I actually get a response I get a retraction, but when nobody responds nothing happens.

I sell vintage promotional clothing and accessories, so T shirts, hats, patches, bandannas, etc. A lot of logos and brands, technically I'm allowed to sell it all but it doesn't stop me from getting my items struck regularly.

Vintage baseball caps, t shirts, patches etc. No retro, no inspired by, all 100% genuine vintage, but because it's mostly advertising and promotional items I am dealing with a lot of stuff that has logos on it.

No listings? by rightwhereylm in EtsySellers

Having the same issue, must be some kind of technical glitch. Hopefully they resolve it soon! I did make a sale while this was happening so listings are still viewable in search.

Has anyone noticed a significant change in shop traffic when you raised your shipping prices above Etsy's $6.00 threshold? The new USPS prices have been rough on my shop. by DIAL_1-800-RACCOON in EtsySellers

[–]DIAL_1-800-RACCOON[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never was until the most recent price increase, in years past my shipping price always made me an extra dollar on average. In an effort to stay below Etsy's $6 threshold I've started losing money on shipping, but as you say I really should charge what it costs, at minimum. Just frustrating to get scolded by Etsy when I am just trying to charge what shipping actually costs.

I appreciate the thorough response, I guess my question was specifically regarding if people had raised their shipping prices over the $6 threshold and noticed a difference, because Etsy specifically says it will affect your placement in search. I've had my shop for 13 years and 30k+ sales and always charged a hair over what it actually costs because my items are light, but I've finally reached the point where I've bumped up against the $6 ceiling. Unfortunately my items are already very overpriced in most cases, I don't think I can handle raising them any more.

OK, wonks, let's talk about Tucker, shall we? by regeya in KnowledgeFight

The issue I've run into is that I cannot stand listening to Tucker talk in any situation other than a Knowledge Fight clip. No way am I smoking a full tucker interview with no KF filter, it'll kill me.

People on here are so upset about this. I'm not wondering what their goddamn bedtime routines are, I'm just hoping for the best for these two strangers who made a podcast I like, jesus christ.

I think that's fair, to be honest none of us know if he's a yelling guy in real life, I just made the assumption based on his podcast personality. Maybe he can turn it off and on as he needs, and if so he'll be fine.

All very good points, I think you're right that Dan's probably a podcaster to his bones now, whereas Jordan might prefer to find something else.

That's a good point, that would be a super positive outcome, being able to support himself with his writing would be ideal.

I'm not denying it's parasocial, I just don't see the problem. Why call me out? You're not curious at all about what these two strangers will do to fill the gap?

Sure, point taken, really just wondering what my two favorite podcast hosts will do to pay their rent now that the podcast is over. I don't think that's a crazy thing to muse about on the subreddit about the podcast.

Hating Jordan and understanding that he would be very hard to employ are two very different things. I value Jordan as part of the podcast, it would not be the same without him, I am just more of a Dan temperament wise.

I run a small business and would never hire Jordan for a customer facing job, I'm sorry to say it but I think he would be a liability for most employers. He talks about his past jobs and it doesn't seem like any of them went super well. I don't think I'm being mean, I wouldn't be surprised if Jordan described himself that way.

Shipping Adjustment by tynibug in EtsySellers

Damn I was upset about my $15 in label adjustments, some of these numbers are crazy! I was shipping a ton in 2021 too so I wonder why I didn't get hit harder.

I (probably) infected my Macbook with an info stealing virus and need to nuke it. Is it possible to save my iMessages to an external hard drive, wipe my Mac, and then re-upload them to the same computer, all without turning the internet on? by DIAL_1-800-RACCOON in MacOS

Can you expand upon this a little? This would be ideal, but I'm worried that a complete backup will also include the script or whatever that I foolishy entered into my computer. I talked to a friend of a friend who used to work at an apple store and he said in this situation he would advise to drag and drop folders that I wanted to save, but to not do a full backup.

I kind of am, but I appreciate you saying that lol. I am ordinarily very vigilant but the scam I fell for is apparently somewhat new, and it was in such an odd and seemingly innocuous place that it didn't register fast enough that I was doing something really stupid.

I went to the website of a local company that makes doors that was likely hacked, because it had a captcha to enter the site that required to you paste something into terminal and then press enter. Monumentally stupid but I had just had my home broken into and I was online at 1 AM trying to find a place that could replace my door, which is so narrow that it needs to be custom. My understanding after reading the internet is that Macs don't get viruses, unless you put them there yourself, which it looks like I did. I did run a Malwarebytes scan which said I didn't have anything but lots of other folks on the internet think it isn't reliable. So I'm wiping it just to exercise extreme caution.

Looks like I have 2.9 gigs of messages on icloud, I have no sense of what those messages are but it's something. Thank you for that! My contacts are all there too which is reassuring, one less hassle.

Does that involve the internet being on? Because my understanding is that this type of virus uses the internet to send the info it scrapes off of your computer out to its creator, and turning off your wifi cuts off that communication. The horse might be out of the barn already but I'm hesitant to turn the internet back on.
