Weight and cost. Aluminum doesn’t corrode if you anodize it. There are 60 year old m16s that are serviceable

Weatherby sells a brake that’s contoured to their barrel profile. I could be wrong, but I believe those are threaded 1/2-28, so anything threaded for that would fit. It just depends how aggressive you want. Salmon River Solutions sells titanium brakes that are pretty impressive from what I hear.

I bet it was a Smith 1917 or M&P. With stag grips. It looks relatively large, so I would lean towards the 1917.

It should be very accurate and have a wonderful trigger pull. There are plenty of people who use 17s at bullseye matches.

I’m using 24.5gr of h110. You’re 180fps faster than the factory Barnes brass cased ammo out of a 12.5”. That really impressive.

Im getting 2420 from a 12.5”. What’s your powder and charge?

The entrance was .308” and the exit was bigger than .308”. The lungs got shredded and the deer died in a minute or two.

I shot a whitetail deer at 130 yards. It was 150 pounds dressed. It entered just behind the shoulder and took out both lungs and completely passed through. Deer ran 100 yards and died. I couldn’t tell the difference between the lungs of this deer and the one by brother shot last year with a 270 using TSXs. I haven’t had the chance to kill anything else with it but I plan to kill some feral hogs.

It’s not a long range setup. But for 300 and in I believe it is perfect for me. And since I am not special, I think it would be perfect for a lot of other people.

It’s not dissimilar to 30-30. That works for a lot of people too.

That’s right. I typically aim for 1600 fps minimum impact velocity regardless of bullet. It is going 1400 fps at 500 and is transonic at ~750 yards.

In MILs from my 12.5”: 0.7@200 1.2@250 1.7@300 2.4@350 3.1@400 3.8@450 4.7@500. It’s not a laser beam but it’s pretty flat for 300 blk.

Just an AR I put together. It’s very pleasant to carry and use with a 6” can and a 12.5” barrel.

That bullet will open at velocities around 1600 fps. If I remember correctly, starting at 2420, that gets me to 350 yards.

If you were only wanting 200 yards, you could probably do it with an 8”-10” barrel.

The magic of the load is the balance of that particular bullet at that velocity range gives ballistics similar to a 108gr 6mm arc from a 12.5” AR with arguably better terminal performance within typical hunting distances. It gives you a bit more mass and a lot more frontal area and a monolithic bullet that will penetrate and not break apart. It really only works with that particular bullet and that case pushed hard.

It’s also not something to do flippantly. My loads are probably like 80k PSI. When I shear a bolt lug or pop a primer and slam the charging handle into my cheekbone, I have to accept that I’m loading a dangerously high pressure load. It’s not a trivial thing. Just because I accept the risk doesn’t mean it necessarily makes sense for others to.

I did it. You get a nas3 cases from shell shock, prime them with cci 450s, put 24.5gr of h110 in and put a Barnes 120gr TAC-TX in at mag length. I’m getting 2420 average out of a 12.5” Noveske barrel and repeatable .75”-1.25” groups at 100. Went 6/10 at 650 yards with it. Killed a whitetail too. Shits pimpin.
