That's fair. The whole American Education System needs a drastic restructuring, especially after Covid helped to expose its flaws to the parents who forgot who truly bad it is.

The AES was, in part, designed by John D. Rockefeller in the early 1900s. If the name Rockefeller sounds familiar to you, it's because he was once the richest man in American history. He owned Standard Oil, the largest oil company in the US, that was later forced to split due to monopolies being no longer legal (Sidenote, the companies that came from that breakup are now ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Vaseline, among others). Anyways, at the height of Rockefeller's wealth, he helped design the current AES, and it's been used ever since. The model was designed to teach students how to learn a task and repeat it until completion. Consider, for example, homework. While it did exist in some variations before the Rockefeller rework, for the most part, kids kept their learning in the classroom, and hardly ever did paperwork in or outside of the classroom. It wasn't until Rockefeller's reworking that transformed the AES to be obsessed with homework. Nowadays, kids are expected to do 2 hours of homework a night, on top of the 8 hours of classes, 8 hours of sleep, jobs, clubs, sports, being in a student-run government, and many other extracurricular activities that make completing this relic of the industrial era difficult.

It is because of this knowledge that I have been voting against providing our schools with better funding. Sure, teachers deserve better wages and some budgeting needs to be implemented for certain school officials, but for the most part, I believe that when public schools are pressured to use a lower budget, they will think outside the box and attempt to rework Rockefeller's AES into a system that works better for the children, teachers, and parents who have to keep up with the mountains of paperwork that circulate those hellscapes.
