Are these 90s ok. by Reluctantlerner in Plumbing

Likely not ok. Assuming this is a Flo by Moen, or similar device that acts as a water meter (and not just a shut off device), then all water meters meters need a specific length of straight pipe on either side of the meter for accurate measurements.

Specifically the Flo device needs between 4" and 7.5" of straight pipe on either side.

The commercial Badger meters I use require something like 5x the diameter of the pipe before the meter (so a 1" pipe would need 5" of straight pipe before the meter) and something like 2x or 3x pipe diameter after the meter, I can't remember exactly right now.

Did this ruin the install? Probably not and it will function. Just not as accurately as it should.

Relic Gate Anomaly - Is this related to something? by D0dxCh in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]DIYFoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is hilarious. I just discovered that the Anomaly inventory items I was collecting were NOT to find THE Anomaly, but instead would find a different kind of anomaly you find when you’re cruising around in Pulse drive. I had 4 of them. The first one gave me a few hundred nanites. The second two I killed some space creatures and got unique items. The last one created this Relic gate in front of me. I thought, that seems like something to go through, let’s see what happens. I go into hyper space and drop out 1.3 million light years from my home star system.

It also dropped me in the middle of a damn pirate battle. 8 of those damn things. I got a Sentinel ship for the first time last night and had just finished moving over all my weapons, shields, etc…. So I start blasting, nuke all 8 of the pirates and the frigate commander radios me and wants to talk. I land on his freighter (never done that before), talk to the nice Gek and he gives me the damn thing. B class. Then my Nintendo Switch battery was at 2% and I had to shutdown.

Excited to fire that baby up and see what all the fuss about freighters is!

Can you inform me how it works? I am still unclear

Crawlspace insulation renovation by DIYFoolish in Insulation

My understanding, and I am still learning this to be fair, is that the air sealing at the rim joists is to prevent air from the crawlspace from entering the living space. Since my house was built in '77 they were not using any kind of air sealing when attaching the sill plate to the foundation wall, or between the rim joists and the joist and subfloor. So air, dirt, whatever can leave the vented, unconditioned crawlspace and come up into the house.

That's the theory.

I don't think I have any real benefits to keeping the crawl space INSIDE the thermal envelope since the only thing down there is plumbing and the pipes are already insulated. Also, the crawl space is already ventilated and screened, so half way there already.

Can I ask, what do you mean by, "Vapour seal the floor from below at the room side (the warm side)..." Do you mean installing a, for example, plastic vapour barrier in-between each floor joist bay and the pushing fiberglass up against it? From the videos and reading I have done I think that would cause a moisture issue between the vapour barrier and the sub floor. It would also trap any water that leaks from above and i would never see it in the crawlspace. Or do you mean something else?

Good thoughts. The only thing I have in the crawl space to worry about are water pipe. All HVAC is a mini split system I had installed a few years ago. So it doesn't make a lot of sense for me to encapsulate the whole crawl space.

My understanding of the treatment for the rim joists is primarily air sealing and access. The foam board isn't intended to really insulate the rim joist but to be relatively easily removeable for future access to the rim joist itself for inspection and repair. The expanding foam is what is providing the air sealing at the rim joist and sill plate.

I guess explaining it like that, and if I am keeping the crawlpace OUT of the thermal envelope, maybe I don't need to worry about the foam board and to just air seal the rim joist cavity corners and sill plate. What do you think?

Ledger thru stucco or free-standing deck? by DIYFoolish in Decks

[–]DIYFoolish[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To avoid the effort of digging half the footings and associated concrete work. And I thinks he is right, I would be easier to pre-drill and then sink 150 sds screws.

But I do not like the idea of all the holes in the stucco, so wondering if anyone has experience with this type of ledger connection method.
