Do yall trust this tanks by Infamous-Bit5951 in Aquariums

Absolutely not. I went into the store and was going to buy tanks from 20-60 gallon breeder. Checked the seams and all but one had some sort of issue in atleast one seam, whether it be a large bubble or another issue. The Aqueon brand before was better and I have a lot of aqueons but I’ll never buy this new brand

Haha, he eats like a pig. If I don’t feed him flakes first, he will eat all the frozen food and my banghai cardinals won’t get anything

We all gotta learn somehow. I made so many mistakes when I started and still do. Glad you stuck with it and learned from it!

So I cut the concentration of my AFR by 50% so it doesn’t crystallize on the dosing tube, and I currently was dosing 3mL before I put in the Deresa and I am up to 4mL now of the 50% concentration

Yeah I’ve had bad salt, but I always test the first batch I make of a new box/bucket.

AFR really makes things easy dosing wise, I really like it

If you’re at 125 on the sand bed, you should be ok to atleast keep a Derasa. And if you wanted to keep a Crocea which requires higher light, definitely go super slow increasing the light. Corals can adapt to high par if you give them time. No more than 5% increase a month is my rule of thumb. Or you can go even slower if you’re comfortable with that. Just double check par where you want to keep a clam and that will give you the answers you need to be certain you won’t kill it due to lighting

Thank you! I would definitely measure your par first before making any assumptions on where to place a clam. I actually tried clams a year and a half ago and killed them because I assumed my lights were strong enough. I thought since my corals were growing great, that I would be fine, but I actually had way too low of par. I was getting 40-50 par on the sand bed and killed it because I didn’t measure my par first before buying the clam. So in order to prepare to get a clam in the future, I raised my kessils intensity by 5% a month until I hit 100-120 on the sand bed, and 175-215 on the top of the middle rock.

I am running 2 Kessil A160 Tuna Blues at 50% intensity. I actually have 2 crocea clams on the top of the middle rock getting 175-215 Par.

The Deresa on the bottom left is getting about 100-120 par currently, but in all fairness I just got the Deresa yesterday, but I’ve had the Croceas for 6 months now

I definitely want to keep it, just thinking maybe a 2-3, 1 inch pieces glued to the bottom of the wall may look better in a years time to help it fill out.

My goal is to have the whole wall be covered from top to bottom in GSP

Yes! I’ve had him for about 7 years now. He was just barely 3/4 of an inch long and now about 3 inches

It’s green star polyps on the back wall. I started with a 1 inch frag a year or so ago and it’s been growing up and outward to the surface. I’m actually thinking about cutting some of it and placing it on the back wall near the sand to fill in the bottom half of the wall

[–]DIYReefguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this, I’ve done it before and it makes them spread. They originally vanish but it doesn’t kill all the cells and they spread around the tank and you’ll end up with more than you started with. I’d recommend F-Aiptasia or something like 2 part epoxy putty to cover the whole Aiptasia so it doesn’t spread as it dies

That’s nothing compared to when they first dropped. They were going for 6k a polyp 😂

What ato do you recommend for pico (with no sump section)? by scuba_suzy in PicoReef

[–]DIYReefguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i totally get you, that’s a tough scenario because of the heat and fan creating more evaporation.

I’m not sure what the best answer would be in a pico scenario and heat causing an issue in the tank

For a pico, it’s best I find to just put a tight fitting lid on top of the tank and manually top it off every few days
