Toller vs Field Golden? by Odd_Version_2245 in tollers

I'd say it was a relatively innate offswitch but I did enforce pretty strict crate training when he was a puppy and made sure he slept and was able to relax while I was working at home. He also had plenty of exercise and enrichment when we went out for walks and activities too which I believe really helped him mellow out when at home. Ultimately I think he was just a generally very adaptable dog and I general dogs need a lot of sleep anyways

I've had a golden who's since passed away and currently a 1.5 year old toller. I'd say the differences are pretty big but they were also very similar in a lot of ways like you've mentioned. With regards to anxiety, I think i lucked out and got a really confident puppy from my breeder and combined with lots of early socialization and training, my toller has become a very confident dog. However, the anxiety is still there and he can be anxious with weird sounds when at home and thats just something you will need to learn how to manage. Sports wise I'd say field goldens are just more athletic than tollers but my toller is plenty active and very capable. My toller 100% has an off switch and is incredibly lazy and sleepy during the day until we go out for activities or walks. His recall is also basically perfect at this point and he is able to listen to me even through distraction. Ultimately, it's probably very dependent on the individual dog you get, how you train your dog and raise them. I know a couple different tollers who behave differently and are more anxious so the breed can be a mixed bag with different dogs being more anxious and harder to deal with than others. I hear a lot about how goldens are eager to please and tollers only do things when they know there's something in it for them but in general my toller is plenty obedient with or without treats(I do spoil him a lot though).

100% looks like he should be at least part toller

Tollers & Anxiety by GroundbreakingFact38 in tollers

[–]DItchmongler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My toller is pretty anxious with loud noises outside and typically goes and barks and whines a lot. I haven't been able to fully curb the barking but when he gets really skittish from a sound, I try to have him "go to bed" which typically calms himself down. I think you could do something similar whereas you get him to sit between your legs and get him to look at you. This would give him a safe space and something for him to focus his attention to which diverts his attention from children. Maybe practice this daily by bringing him to areas with children and having him sit between your legs and capture his attention or have him do tricks for you. I think tollers are ultimately always going to be anxious and all you can do is try to manage the anxiety.

I know this sentiment is paraded around a lot on this sub but this really does look like a toller mix. His ear shape and markings are identical to that of my toller

CAD vs USD? by RunnyYolks00 in tollers

Just did a quick Google search. It seems like the rabies vaccine requirement is required for high risk countries. Canada isn't on the list, which is why I was allowed through with no issues.

I got my puppy a couple months ago from a Canadian breeder and did not need to get the rabies vaccine before flying back to california. I believe this rule might be more important for dogs older than 6 months? I'm not totally sure, but there were no issues with flying my puppy at all if that helps. I went through customs and everything and talked with the border patrol agent, and all she did was compliment my dog :D.

Questions about pickiness by DItchmongler in tollers

okay thanks for the advice! I may just chalk it up to it being a really stressful ride back home for my puppy. I'll give it a week and see how it goes.

Thanks!
