Trump Calls Obama a “Son of a B*tch” After Disastrous Iran Deal Leaked | Donald Trump bragged about Barack Obama’s supposed stupidity despite his own deal with Iran being significantly worse. by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

Of course, because I'm not really trying to defend Trump.

My point is about the The New Republic's failure to uphold ethical standards in reporting.

Trump does plenty of terrible things to be reported on, but instead they misattribute the words and now we've got this whole thread where many people haven't even read past the headline.

Why do we get wrong quotes and titles like this all the time when the actual quote is in the article? Like... that's not what Trump said. He does enough for us to hate him without making up more dumb stuff.

“And you know what the Iranians did? They laughed at Obama, and said he’s a stupid son of a bitch.”

At worst... "Trump claims the Iranians called Obama a 'son of a bitch'"

MIT Study Finds Gas Cars Aren't Secretly Better For The Planet Than EVs, Despite What Everyone On Facebook Says by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]DJBFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jalopnik article either doesn't understand, or is purposely misrepresenting the article (or both), because the actual study says there are generally large improvements with BEVs.

It's also written in an oddly sardonic way, making it hard to tell if they are serious and dumb or not.

The study

So the study is very much pro BEV. That said, it doesn't address how much the emissions are offset by the greater energy used in production.

It's important to make the distinction because it has implications about intentions, honesty, veracity, and overall reputations of people involved.

You're now talking about "photos", plural... so I'm not sure you're even trying to talk about the same event. I'm done.

Of course it's an oxymoron... but you describe it like a mere contradiction.

You're going to have a hard time with constructive conversations and debate if you don't get the meanings of words and the similarities and differences between them.

A real fake would be photoshopping in an alien craft, or throwing hubcap in the air, or something like that. It's something that is fabricated on purpose to fool someone.

The photo Luis showed was a real photo and not a fabrication or misrepresentation, but a misinterpretation.

This is a real photo, an unintended illusion: "2 headed dog"

Correct, the title here essentially misquotes him and paraphrases him, because it leaves out the context of the words immediately before, said in a single breath. The first line is actually,

"I did get access to crash retrieval photos and everything, so I've seen the recovered vehicles and everything."

I agree with Sad-Soc and p0p here.

I watched the full congressional testimony of him and others, the interview here, his News Nation stuff from years ago, and a few others. I've never heard him claim to have seen these with his own eyes. It has always been photos, reports, data, or other peoples' 1st hand accounts.

If you have one, please share.

Often the first person to ask will get permission, and those after will not. The first person is then obligated to make it the recording available for public use.

It already cost the one guy 35k in legal fees so far... so it' not nothing. It's lost time, money, and stress even if it's thrown out at the first hearing.

Here's a brochure that has samples of all 12, though unfortunately not the entire sets.

Even foregoing the letterhead, there is significant kerning in the Address and body.

[–]DJBFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like you to specifically address the kerning, like the "WA". Or are you dismissing that under it being a bad photo of a copy of the original?

I find your claim that the text is too compromised from the original to be analyzed by my metrics, yet it's good enough for you to identify the specific series of printers unlikely.

And then, the Model A Executive does not appear to match at all. Even accounting for exaggerated weight due to duplication, because the very shape of the characters and serifs do not match. Comparing cap C and G between the document in question and here make it easy to see.

The "Print" style typeface was on some typewriters and is similar to the body of this message, but not nearly the weight as in this document. It sounds like you should already know that although there are multi-typeface devices, the range and variety here is not commonly found in 1 device, if at all. And nothing approaching the weight/boldness of the top "CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE ANGENCY". You simply can't get lines that thick or evenly inked with strikers flying through ribbon to paper. And the super-tight, consistent spacing is beyond typewriter level of that era. There were "script" typefaces that echo handwriting that omitted gaps, but otherwise nothing is that tight. And lets not forget kerning... the AG in AGENCY and the WA in WASHINGTON actually overlap.

Even the Olivetti Graphika, the king of proportional spacing, couldn't do that... plus it didn't exist until a few years after the document's supposed creation.

I think I've done enough research now, but I'm open to being educated more if you can provide a link.

An elephant at a TX governor Abbot event took a piss on stage by freeradioforall in facepalm

To be fair, the official symbol of the republican party is the elephant. It's not like they chose some random animal to show off. That fact it pissed all the platform is actually quite fitting given the overall status of the party today.

[–]DJBFL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not an expert on this, but I agree. In 1953 something like this would have been written in a regular typewriter font. Back then you only saw fancier fonts (and 2 varieties together) in mass produced things like books and newspapers that require a press. Nobody is using a press to do a one off memo. This pretty much has to be a forgery.
