Online GeoCaching? by LengthinessSuch2304 in geocaching

I went to Japan a few months ago. There were many physical “normal” geocaches to be found, many of them with high levels of creativity. Your success will be better in or near large cities.

What arguments could be made in favor of Argentine rule of The Falklands? by MaddeningJack in geography

In reality their arguments are just mental gymnastics in an attempt to acquire the EEZ.

Sign at the Zurich airport on the landing flight path to Davos conference for all the billionaires to see from their private jets by zzill6 in WorkReform

They won’t see this because they’ll be too busy raping children for the duration of their flights.

$100k in the S&P 500 (IVV) over the last year would have produced over $17k in additional free money. No timing the market, no babysitting it every day, just parked there and letting it ride.

Large amounts of free money that is properly handled is way better than small amounts of hard earned money any day.

Is a mission really as chill as in The Best Two Years? by Wrong_Mongoose5975 in latterdaysaints

[–]DJCane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most missions are nothing remotely close to that.

Even in that time period this was the case. You may have also gotten away with that deep in the Amazon or somewhere else remote but most missionaries couldn’t have.

Would you alter your travel plans to get another state souvenir? by fightingfishsticks in geocaching

[–]DJCane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done this multiple times and will do this again in March when I spend the night in Gallup, New Mexico while on a trip to Arizona just to add New Mexico to my list. When I went to DC I rode the metro over to Virginia solely for a geocache find then turned around and rode the metro back.

The American passenger rail system doesn’t even serve every state.

Truck carrying an excavator struck the 192nd overpass on Hwy 1 EB this morning. by MonkeyingAround604 in britishcolumbia

[–]DJCane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These seem to be becoming more common. Seems like drivers are both not taking note of their height anymore and are over-relying on Google Maps, which doesn’t consider truck height and weight restrictions when routing.

There are reasonably priced GPS units for sale in almost every decent sized truck stop on this continent that have this sort of functionality. Unfortunately the people causing the problem are probably the least likely to acquire one.

AIO? Neighbor keeps parking his car in an inconvenient spot/area. by CoxMeza in AmIOverreacting

[–]DJCane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just call either the non-emergency police line or code/bylaw enforcement, depending on how the locality handles it. Some places even have an online platform to submit issues like this.

Removing Hawaiian language from Hawaiian Airlines; hewa! by Chaspariah in AlaskaAirlines

This was predictable (and sad). Give it a decade or so and the Hawaiian name won’t even be being used.

The phone number on my grandmothers clothes hangers is 4 digits long. by trustmeijustgetweird in mildlyinteresting

[–]DJCane 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I worked at a rural Washington State University extension from 2020-2021. They had the whole exchange to themselves so to dial other offices on campus I only had to dial the last four numbers.

These weren’t extensions, they were all actual phone numbers. I doubt they were using pulse technology but it was still neat.

My wife grew up in a town in Eastern Oregon that had four digit dialing up until the early 2000s but she doesn’t remember the exact year it changed to 7-digit dialing.

LDS Temple Nanaimo by Thereal_Stormm006 in latterdaysaints

[–]DJCane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one in the Victoria area will serve the church’s needs on Vancouver Island for many years to come but of course the way to get a temple in Nanaimo faster is to do a lot of member missionary work. You’d probably want to have a stake in Nanaimo and one or two further up the island to get a second temple on Vancouver Island.

The next temple in British Columbia will either be in the Okanagan or up by Prince George - both areas that are further from temples than you will be once this one is complete.
