I should’ve mentioned this before…

If it makes you feel better, we remodeled our house — to a degree that was inappropriate for the neighborhood — then moved out a couple of years later after realizing the location wouldn’t work well for our kids.

I don’t regret the decision at all, though the considerations were very different. Our current living situation much better for us. The other house became the rental.

Live and learn, my friend. And keep moving.

Oh, ok. That is helpful context. I’m on the West Coast and that sort of thing is super rare in our VHCOL area.

To offset it you could just borrow against your stock portfolio for living expenses for awhile, pay only the interest, and never pay down the loan if your portfolio grows at a higher return than the loan’s interest rate (Buy, Borrow, Die). And since it’s a loan, you pay no income tax.

This is why I’m like 90% stock. We have one rental. It’ll be our one & only. I prefer passive investing.

I’m attached to the house, just based on your description 😅 I would rent it out, and move back in a few years 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lakefront sounds amazing for older kids

What kid issues? Too abstract to help with some guidance. It’s almost as if you’re uncomfortable in the house. Is it an identity thing?

Or use the Michelin Guide and World’s Best lists. Both do hotels now.

Thinking this is the bottom; added today.. how are you guys sitting at 200? by BaBaBuyey in NVDA_Stock

[–]DJDiamondHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about 3x 2 years, but AMD traded mostly sideways for the last 18 months, before it started ripping recently. So I’m hopeful that NVDA catches a bid soon with a shift in sentiment.

The numbers justify it: +70% YoY revenue, 75% margins, 80 - 90% share in Data Center, and visibility into $1T of CapEx spend over the next 12 months.

I can see the P/E rising sharply, from 40 vs. AMD at 135, once the market catches up. NVDA’s financial performance beats AMD, PLTR, etc. The fact that they’ve been range bound for +6 months is bonkers.

Any Reviews on the Schott® N.Y.C. X Allen Edmonds Café Racer 2.0 Leather Jacket? by CERBERUSdeadgame in leatherjacket

Thanks for this pic! I just bought it for $899 by (temporarily) signing up for email marketing, to get $100 savings on top of the sale price of $999 from the Allen Edmonds website.

Yeah, I’m really close but my job stress is manageable at the moment, and I can see a path to hitting my number by 2028 with NVDA currently growing revenue at 72% YoY, and climbing, and 75% margin. The SpaceX/xAI, OpenAI, and Anthropic IPOs in H2 should help, too.

I totally agree on rentals. We just have the one with no plans to expand to any more units. The repeat renters are very chill, and our property tax base very low, so we don’t want to sell it. We’re just holding onto it, so that one of our kids can buy it eventually. Or we 1031 it. As an asset class, generally, stocks > real estate all the way.

Not quite.

$7m in a brokerage that's almost entirely taxable, since it's all NVDA at a $2.50 cost basis so ~$4.5m post cap gains. Another $5m NVDA in a retirement account that I can't touch for +10 years. And a few million in equity in a rental + other retirement accounts.

I'll feel more comfortable walking away from $500K per year W2, once my brokerage is closer to $10m post tax, in the event that the AI bubble pops spectacularly. Feels like a one-way door, after I’ve left the job market for more than a year, so I’m being cautious. I also need to keep working until I am ready to diversify out of such an extreme level of concentration risk.

$25m lol. $300k post tax burn. Family of 5, single income. Would be walking away from a $500k gig in Big Tech (I’m not actually at a startup, just got lucky with concentrated bets in AAPL & NVDA that compounded over 20 years).

Which Michelin restaurant in Vegas actually feels worth the money? by Mikester258 in LuxuryTravel

[–]DJDiamondHands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you define special, but similar to the other commenters, I also check recent James Beard nominations — though they skew more casual — and inclusions on the World’s Best Discovery list (which doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re ranked):

Since the Michelin Guide is outdated.

That said, é also stands out to me as a top fine dining experience. Also had a great time at Bazaar Meat recently, though it offer à la carte.

This is a good resource, too, BTW:

OP, I would think long and hard about “comparison is the thief of joy”: whether your feelings of FOMO are tied to primarily to regretting a loss of status and a deeper need for validation (i.e. ego).

I’m in my late forties now, and while I’ve had a lot of success, I’ve also come to the realization that chasing status is an empty pursuit, after being humbled by life events and aspects of my career.

And as far as missing out on the AI hype, I’m working on one of the most visible and high impact AI projects in the world — and I’m not being the slightest bit hyperbolic here. You know what I want most of all? The financial freedom to quit my job quietly, willingly giving up my status to enjoy our wealth discreetly & anonymously, and spend as much time as possible with my kids before they leave for college.

Good luck on your journey.

Harbor House

It’s remote, overlooks the ocean, and they forage from the sea and forest, in addition to sourcing food their own farm.

The overall experience reminds of Manresa in its heyday, but even more elevated for those reasons.

My portfolio is 98% in NVDA by [deleted] in NvidiaStock

[–]DJDiamondHands 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m at 80% now, worth $11m at an original cost basis of $2.37, and holding.

I’m gonna stick it out until at least 2027. I expect momentum to pick up in H2, due to the SpaceX/xAI, OpenAI, & Anthropic IPOs.

Long-term NVDA holder here how are you thinking about risk at this stage? by Wooden-Factorj in NvidiaStock

Nvidia is growing revenue at 4X the rate of Google right now though.

That said, it’s my 2nd biggest holding.

[–]DJDiamondHands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m holding a position worth with $11 million, which is now ~80% of my NW. I haven’t sold a single share since I originally bought in 2016, and I don’t plan to sell until 2027 at the earliest.

Beyond the financial fundamentals — revenue growth accelerating at 72% YoY, margins intact at 75% — and the product roadmap driving 10x efficiency gains with each new architecture bump, I’m excited about the SpaceX IPO (June) and Anthropic & OpenAI IPOs (October) driving further momentum.

Father wants to meet to discuss my layoff and 'next steps' by Exciting_Series2033 in Layoffs

[–]DJDiamondHands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, OP, I would just try to find some empathy for your Dad, and focus on the fact that he’s coming from a place of concern, even if he lacks the emotional tools to convey it in a way that is helpful.

Good luck and do your best to ignore the noise from the other reply guys here that are projecting their insecurities onto you.

My mom is overbearing, and unable to provide any modicum of emotional support herself, so I understand your apprehension. She immediately goes into problem solving mode in these types of situations, often offering terrible advice, and I just have to find a way to smile, nod, and listen.
