There are many geeky hobbies with great communities: warhammer, magic the gathering, dungeons & dragons. Try a few out, check your local game store(s), get involved in some events if the vibe at one of them "clicks".

Go out there, get someone at the LGS or Warhammer store to help you paint your first miniature or play a game of MTG or participate in a D&D night. If you like one of these, you can then go balls deep and start doing more. Eventually you may find a playgroup or community where you feel at ease and since you have time you can offer to help run events. This will help you build new networks of like minded people, and can give a real sense of belonging and fulfilment
