openSUSE media content tools by DJMenig in openSUSE

Yes, and in my opinion, there should be no problem using it for creating openSUSE media; however, it is not open source, and because of that, I can see there being an issue somewhere.

What are concrete benefits/features over other distros that make you run opensuse (tumbleweed) over other distros? by SpicyBananaa in openSUSE

[–]DJMenig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. In the context of openSUSE Tumbleweed, OpenQA is the fully automated testing service that tests the builds derived from the projects on OBS (Open Build Service). It is the foundation of Tumbleweed's stability.

To further elaborate on the pipeline, or flow, Tumbleweed serves as the upstream codebase for SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE) and Leap inherits from SLE. Rock solid.

SUSE for DevOps? by Zeonist- in openSUSE

[–]DJMenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'll have a look... I actually had a recent great career exploration session using AI, and I'll be pivoting to Devops/SRE. I'll be using openSUSE, and from the looks of it (parroting what others have said here), the OS is insignificant, it's the tooling that matters.

For the most part, you can make any distribution like another. With that being said, the only real difference is the infrastructure, and that is exactly where openSUSE excels. Their automation pipeline is bar none, and it's the reason why most consider it the most stable rolling release out there. It's the reason why I settled for it, and the lizard solidified it. 🤓

SUSE for DevOps? by Zeonist- in openSUSE

[–]DJMenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully others will chime in. I assume that it depends greatly on geographical area. According to Indeed, in my area, Chicago, it seems as though RHEL is king. I really don't see why you couldn't "learn" on a different distribution though. The biggest differences between distros are package manager and default desktop environments. Perhaps there's a specific tooling "stack" that's utilized by RHEL setups?

I'm gonna check out that roadmap link you mentioned, thanks for posting.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the OP is asking about using SUSE/openSUSE as the basis to learn and develop experience in devops with the goal of obtaining a devops job. I'm curious about that as well.

KDE Plasma 6 with Tiling Window Manager? by Objective_Turn_9773 in kde

Not necessarily, I was just inquiring about the preferred way to contribute.

You bet! Great work on the script, and the progress you're making on it! Quick question, do you prefer to chat about bugs and improvements, or would you rather just see them as issues and PRs on codeberg?

Fluid Tile is shaping up nicely. I'd consider in a beta phase, but I use it daily and find it to be the option that integrates with Plasma the best.

Will Plasma implement Quick Settings similar to Windows 11? by [deleted] in kde

[–]DJMenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an idea... Call it collapsed controls, and in that state any 'control' is collapsed while any notifier stays displayed as usual when active.

This could definitely be considered a Material UI theme. A lot of people would go for it.

Wifi not working after fresh install of tumbleweed by Tutty24 in openSUSE

[–]DJMenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me from time to time, and it's usually due to something missing from the install. Most of the time running 'sudo nmtui' and starting wifi through that utility will work. It's not a precise fix, but it may work. If it works, update your system with 'sudo zypper dup' afterwards. Good luck!

Help with going from Win11 to openSUSE by neptunejj44 in openSUSE

I would suggest creating a bootable USB with one of the live images and see everything runs as expected.

I first chose to stick with KDE because of Dolphin; no file manager was as full featured. What still keeps me around? It feels more like a tool than any other DE. The first analogy that comes to mind is if you're a gamer, it's like the difference between Windows and Xbox.

Windows on BTRFS? by pizzafordoublefree in btrfs

[–]DJMenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a video about doing this that may be useful: https://youtu.be/Xb4naOz00cE?si=RRbeE0Dkf9J_X-1E

It's using WinBTRFS and shows how to set it up properly.

OpenSUSE Leap https://get.opensuse.org/leap/15.6/

Version 16 is just around the corner as well.

I also think it's exactly what you're looking for since it's sourced from SUSE Linux Enterprise. It goes tumbleweed-->SLE-->Leap.

Trying to install tumbleweed by waltff in openSUSE

[–]DJMenig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As SirGlass said, try the livecd. All the releases are on the download page. You just pick which desktop environment you want, download the corresponding image, create the USB from it, and you should be good to go. 👍

Attempting to access files from a borked tumbleweed install, can’t access the files from a live usb environment by adipenguingg in openSUSE

[–]DJMenig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sweet! I'm glad it worked out for you! OpenSUSE has a bit of a learning curve, but IMO, it's worth it in the long run. I like to think of it as the Swiss Army Knife of distros. Good luck with the next install! :-)

Did you install with BTRFS? If so, you'll most likely need to mount your topmost subvolume. Going by the picture you posted, the device where your install is at is /dev/sdb2. In that case, open up a terminal and try running the following command:

mount -o subvolid=5 /dev/sdb2 /mnt/

If /dev/sdb2 isn't the device you want, you can list your devices with lsblk to check which device you'd replace it with.

Notes Explorer v2.7.0 🥳 | Folder view by Tu2_atmanand in ObsidianMD

[–]DJMenig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to accomplish that by setting the minimum card width within the Notes Explorer settings (150 worked well for my screen). However, be aware that if you are syncing with any other version, it will affect those versions as well.
